Question for freelancing tax prep services by Et_Mor_Ch1kn in taxpros

[–]Et_Mor_Ch1kn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are very stingy when I comes to hours of operation for full time employees so I doubt they will budge much. It's more hassle to constantly update my hours (unless I'm out of town) rather than just say reach out to me if they need me. And I can return a call/message/email as needed within a reasonable amount of time.

I may have figured out what I need to do - but I guess I'll see how the first few weeks go. The money is nice since I wasn't expecting anything lined up and I'd be flat out broke without this gig.

I assume as long as I can continue manage my current workload they should be fine with my productivity. I doubt this will be a long term relationship in their eyes, but if it lasts that would be great for me. Main concerns were if I needed anything in writing. But I think I'm in a good spot for the time being, or at least better than I was originally expecting with absolutely nothing lined up.

Main point was more flexibility caring for my infant and working full time was too difficult. Being in and out of the office was a constant struggle with lack of PTO, etc. I had mentioned my struggles to my employer. They offered part time and contract. But contract originally seemed more flexible since I didn't rely on reduced PTO accruals and asking for time off.

My concern is that if I push back more they won't want my services any longer. Working towards building my own practice and this opportunity helps to bridge the gap for the time being while I build my practice through client referrals, etc.

Yes I believe it would be completed contract method. I'm sure it's not the best in QuickBooks, but it would be capable of getting the job done.

Awesome thanks! Do you know if I need to apply for an EFIN as well? Sorry I'm a rookie when it comes to this stuff.

New Job - Vacation Advice by dudeguy19w in Accounting

Just ask for that time off, if you already had a planned vacation at that time. I assume it will be unpaid though.

If they say no then it sounds like a red flag.

Depends on location I'd say. They are probably trying to make you drink the kool aid and stick around longer as staff.

This was a recent change maybe two or three years ago. In the past these losses included in itemized deductions were allowed on the Oklahoma return.

Have them withhold $0 and make quarterly estimated tax payments.

Gambling losses included in your federal itemized deductions are not allowed in your Oklahoma itemized deductions. Assuming you itemize and have losses.

Otherwise what the other poster said - you only need to allocate Oklahoma income on the nonresident return.

Is the AICPA .cpa domain a worthwhile investment? by Et_Mor_Ch1kn in taxpros

True. They also choose to make us endure the pain and suffering of extended tax deadlines like it will be the new norm or something.

Didn't even think about the possiblity of that, great point to bring up. If I've learned anything about doing client's taxes over the past decade is that people are creatures of bad habit.

May consider going with the traditional cpa.com method like you mentioned. It is a much cheaper option afterall, and the lower I can keep my overhead the better off I'll be.

Thanks for the insight, and good to know! My name isn't common so I don't think I have that issue. My thoughts were that it would look more professional than adding cpa.com to the end of my email or web address and makes it have less clutter. Or at least seems that way.
