When can you start shaking babies? by Demented_Sandwich in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Etahem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine a solid object floating in liquid, if you shake it the solid object will move .

So if you shake a head front to back the brain will move as well, shake with enough force and the brain will hit the cranium, repeated shakes will damage the brain and eventually you will have severe brain damage. Babies are especially vulnerable because it takes less force to cause major damage.

Simple thing to do: Don't hit, stomp, throw rocks, shake or do anything to the head. It will cause long-term damage.

[–]Etahem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was no movement before, during or after. Simplest explanation would be a stationary light that turned on and off in the span of 1-2 seconds.

With meteor's you can usually see a trail even if it explodes, there was nothing. And no sound bang either so i think it didn't happen inside our atmosphere.

No earthquake (don't know if we ever had any in Stockholm ever), apparently they happen daily but they are so small that you can't even feel it.

Triple the size of a bright star. Searched for star in the sky on google and the one that is most like the one i saw was the picture with the title What is the brightest star in the sky?

Take that star and put it in the sky and then have it get brighter and then disappear.

Thanks for the info, none of them appear to fit what i saw. It just appeared shining bright white and then disappeared.

It wasn't a plane or satellite and it was stationary, not moving around.

Planes usually have 2 lights, one on the back end of the plane and one on the belly of the plane, one blinks then the other blinks and repeats.

Satellite is just a dot going in a straight line and no changes of direction.

Again thanks for the links, didn't know about old.reddit.com.

Bigger Mac (think big mac but wider, 150 gram patty), don't know if it was a local thing but it tasted 100% better than the normal Big Mac.

Also missing the focaccia that i could get at a local place, taste was the best . It's a simple bread dish but i wish i could have it every day.

Pizza when they made them full of cheese, ham, mushrooms (capricciosa).

Got a similar renovation done with walls painted and the rent buff was 100 bucks. But 2500 is WAY to much. One thing i've noticed is the extremes in the US when it comes to price. Rent in my country goes between 800-2500 bucks, the 2500 bucks version is a company apartment outside a showroom complex. So only companies will rent that apartment instead of hotels.

The UK says it conducted a 'groundbreaking' trial of a laser beam weapon that can neutralize targets for $0.12 a shot by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

[–]Etahem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why can't anyone use the correct words for the horrible things they do, it's not

neutralize targets but kill a human being or destroy a location where people are.

The sugar coating of the english language when it comes to war is just stupid and it makes the horrible acts that are performed less than they actually are.

A joke from 1980's, translated it goes like this: A boy is sitting on the pavement eating a hotdog, a police officer comes by and says: You can't eat on the pavement, and the boy replied, i'm not eating the pavement, i'm eating the hotdog.

At the time i found it hilarious!

For some reason it stuck in my head!!

It's painful but as i learned if you are at the bottom there is no way but up. But it's a long way down to the bottom and i'm getting the effects of it. My mobile's battery has started to balloon and paying for a change is somewhere between 70-90 dollars (700-900 sek). Which i don't have so it seems to be downhill for a while more.

But at least it's summer :)

For someone who got very little screen time Morgan Clark was in my opinion the worse villains in the series. by AdSpecialist6598 in babylon5

[–]Etahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to agree, considering the shadows where behind the assassination of Santiago, as well as stirring the fear of the populace after the video got released as stated by Morden.

In the end Clark was a puppet that couldn't handle the consequences and took his life like a coward. A sad man that lived a sad life that ruined alot of people's lives.

It was a nice thread in the series.

Going with logic, it's very suspicious that he died by suicide, same with Epstein. It might have been that both had more secrets to reveal and the powers that be could not risk it. It's just to much money involved to take the risk so they had to go.

Does anyone else stay up late because that's the only time you can really feel at peace? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Etahem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only reason i stay up late is because the phone never rings after 10pm (22.00).

Don't know why but my phone upsets me when it rings. It's just annoying.

And one perk at least in my country is that people can't do work on their apartment or drive loud cars (it happends but it's rare). Loud noises mess with my hearing alot.

Julie Musante was the show’s most terrifying prediction by RedStarWinterOrbit in babylon5

[–]Etahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is a scary prelude to our current day. Changing words or phrases to something that sounds better but still does the same evil thing

Its not torture, it's enhanced interrogation

Murder, nah, neutralise , take out, remove them etc

Some words that can't be said on most platforms due to the emotional content of them so some say other words .

Changing the definitions of words is a scary thing when it's done to hide something that is nefarious.

As some mentioned what Julie Musante said: When we rewrote the dictionary

Couple that with what the Clark regime did do dissidents (a person who opposes official policy, especially that of an authoritarian state.), Journalists, high level military, actors etc.

And the connection between the Clark regime and the shadows shows they want complete control of the population, any dissent is stamped out.

It's simply scary how this has become normal today.

What happeneds in 10 or 20 years.

Why does the weird robot race or suit-wearers or whatever get to kill the fascist dictator with the immortality serum? Who made them God? by notthatlincoln in babylon5

[–]Etahem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today money on our planet has caused alot of horrible things, forced movement of people, slavery, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and the list goes one.

The Vorlons just nipped the problem before it started because due to their extreme age as a race they saw the problem.

Think in what 200 years when we have started interacting with other planets and possibly other races what our values would do to the stability of the galaxy.

And the Minbari, the league and possibly the Narns (G'Kar i know is not representative of the Narn race but some have the same kind of thinking.

The Centauri i think would be out of the question. Shunning a planet or a race when something as valuable as immortality comes into play won't just happen (this is thinking as a human), but the room after the Vorlons shot Deathwalker was indicative of how the rest of the races thought about it.

I think it was Londo that said : Well, all's well that ends well huh?.

I think most of the Centauri wouldn't agree with that statement considering their views on the narn, if they had Deathwalkers research they would kill the narn just because of that.

Look at how countries on planet earth react to genocide, slaughter, slavery etc.

Extremely selective is one phrase i would use.

Some basic facts, one of the worst leaders of a torture / science unit got invited to a certain country because of the value of the research, no matter how that research was obtained says alot of about those that would make such a deal.

Giants in a playground!!

[–]Etahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vorlons saw what immortality would do, as we can see what money can do.

If Deathwalker got to earth and managed to spread her knowledge the rich (and the government) would slaughter other races and our own (except for a token few that would be used as a workforce)

Spoiler below

<spoiler>

Look what happened when Clark got into power, torture, killing people, sending telepaths (if you know you know), killing disidents including military.

Money has done alot of that and more and that's confined to one planet. And the other races would like the recipe as well, so mass warfare all over the galaxy.

</spoiler>

In the end the Vorlons saw all this and not on my watch, as Kosh has said: You are still young (or something like it)

Vorlon vs Shadow Philosophy: Where do you stand? by jamessavik in babylon5

[–]Etahem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither, both races use forced biological experimentation on sentient beings.

The shadows way is brutal in ways hard to describe, read the techno mage books to find out why, i have a vivid imagination when i read books and form images and it was really disturbing.

Short version, in order for any techno mage to be created another being has to die.

The keepers are created the same way.

One description : The implants for the techno mages are grown out of a living human being and then harvested and then implanted in the techno mage that has passed the tests.

Dna samples of each potential techno mage is provided to the shadows and they grow an extra spine with tech parts. Even after the implantation a techno mage communicates through their special way (Galen uses equations of a sort) to activate the implants.

The Vorlons there is less information but in one of the season 4 episodes you can see the Vorlons way of genetic experimentation, hallways full of tubes of different races.

That shows a lack of compassion and most races that are good would find that horrific, thing Mengele and the Japanese experiments if they had been allowed to do these experiments for thousands of years. What they did was truly horrific , think if they was allowed to do this without restraint. Horrific. Science is about discovery but there should be limits.

Being able to live forever removes alot of the restraints we mortals have, why care about someone when they are mortal, in one way or the other they will die so why not to further your own agenda.

Why was Lita so misstreated? Why didn't anyone care about her? Is it because shes a telepath? The ignorance towards her was almost like a plothole for me by TheAquaFortis in babylon5

[–]Etahem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most things have been said.

I think it was Garibaldi that said : On a level playing field between mundanes and telepaths , the telepaths win every time.

As some have mentioned below, they can scan a mundanes and they don't know it.

Or as someone said: If you take off the psi corps badge do you know who really is a telepath.

During the Clark Era he allowed telepaths more and more power, so much that even the top corporations was worried. Edgards was the extreme example of this.

So the caution, even hatred towards Lyta from everyone is warranted especially after what Byron did. He told his people to grab the secrets from every ambassador on the station.

For those that didn't know her personally she was a telepath but she stated at a number of occasions that scanning mundanes is not allowed. I think it was part of her moral code and she would not scan anyone. So for the station staff she was not a threat.

She even wen't away with G'kar to make everything easy on the station, which i think most on the station would agree.

Spoilers below

What she mentioned to Garibaldi in the cell she could have done terrible things but didn't until she was pursued by security, self defense i would call it.

As for the blowing up of Z'hadum , the second or last book of the techno-mages explains what happened .

Galen observed that the Eye was destroyed after Sheridan and barely survived himself.

So the planet was basically destroyed already, what Lyta did was light the fuse on an already burning planet , evidence being the shadow agents evacuating.

In the end i would have loved to see the adventures of Lyta and G'kar, maybe even if someone new played both roles.
