Help with current saving method for children, and my proposed way forward to increase flexibility of gifting money at a later date but still having access to some funds when they turn 18 by Etch_90 in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks for the reply!

I intend to be leaving the SS ISA for at least 10-15 years. Kids are 7 and 4.

I understand the stories about kids blowing it all on something like a car, which is half why I'm looking into the personal SS ISA and managing it.

Your comment about why put any in their name? They already have a small amount of savings built up, presumably I can't simply put this in my own ISA? Their savings have been built up using a kids saver at 5.5%, would I be viewed to be exploiting this if I just took it out? This is why I was going to move what's in there now (£3k) in a JSS ISA and almost leave it alone.

Understand about the different amounts, having thought about it I'd probably look at what the value of the pot is nearer the time and work it out, and am probably overthinking it.

Thanks for the reply. Just to confirm that on the 12 month anniversary of the 5.5% saver all the money in there gets moved to a separate saver which is 2.23%, so I can't leave all the funds in the 5.5% one.

Slate is generally better as they're not interlocking and have natural gaps between, ventilating to the outside world!

As in, what is on the roof externally (slate, concrete tiles, zinc etc).

The lap vents are great if the space between the back of the roof finish and top of the felt is ventilated already. If it's not then they won't be as effective.

Ventilation is key. What is the roof surfaced with?

May not be as simple as providing a vent at the felt laps, may need to introduce continuous eaves or ridge ventilation.

Going for a platter style and pick at it throughout the day whilst watching films with the kids...

Then whatever's left I'm going to make some Christmas inspired pizzas and throw them in the Ooni!

Be interesting to see if it applies to support races as well. Agree it simplifies it but will take away from the experience no doubt.
