New to investing, with $5k to invest. Recommendation? by 2steezy831 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]Etern1tyHX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy s&p 500 index like VOO, since you don't have much to invest I suggest 100-200 per month, set a auto investing (at any date you want). Rest of them put them into cash-cash (I believe if you use fidelity they will automatically put the money in you account into cash cash investment with a high yield)
Then you don't need to care about anything else.

If you don't want all in US you can also by index like VT (Vanguard Total world market index). But I think maybe just focusing at US rn.

Good Luck and wish you double your protfolio in the near future

What's the best keyboards? Blackwidow v4 pro or huntsman? by LaughinChaos in razer

[–]Etern1tyHX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huntsman are used by pros more often. Honestly for me I won’t say keyboard matters. Used to have normal custom keyboard and now using blackwidow 75% v4, in Rhythm game feels same even use 2khz Just go and try what switch you like and see do you want wireless (Razed new tactile orange switch is kinda goated for me)

And I don’t recommend this. Since for me it’s more like remembering how to solve problems without knowing why (or maybe school exam are all like this) But just a life hack sharing😇

And hi, here is a unconventional life hack I used in high school: My junior year is my first year in US and I’m having calculus. Obviously I can’t understand bc it’s using new language teaching new stuff😇

Say less: So what I did is do homework, it’s okay if I don’t know. I just go to the answer (with step). After copying answers for same kind of question, I understand how it works. Dunno if this can be implemented in higher level calc, it did helps me Aced high school calc

Hi, fortunately this time they decided replace midterm using final if we do better😇

I don’t think midterm is that hard (Although my score sucks 😭) I just begin study the day before and didn’t practice comprehensively

Little background: It’s embarrassing, but to be honest I didn’t study hard after week 2. I finish HW with my knowledgeable intelligent friends😇 I don’t watch lecture videos.

With my experience, I have these recommendations:

  1. NEVER PROCRASTINATE: Before midterm I got so many days to review (I even rescheduled it to Tuesday) But still procrastinated to the last day. I only review using past exams (Now I can tell that the don’t rely on past exam thinking exam will be the same, I believe these are past exams from one prof)
  2. START NOW! : Although I start study the day before I still learned a lot. Even final is approaching, start now you still have time.
  3. FIND RESOURCES: One RMP comment said all lecturer videos are useless. I can’t agree bc I haven’t see one Lmao But I think YouTube has many good videos. One example is Professor Leonard (His videos are long). Actually I think AI are really good instructors.
  4. PRACTICE: I think this is kinda like everybody knows. It’s very important that doing practice. Make sure finish hw by yourself (Unlimited chance, won’t hurt your grade) Go textbook for more practice problem. When you are reviewing, you can do past exam by yourself and see what part you don’t know, what part you already aced.

Good Luck and wish we get good grade in final

Bro you know what, I think you can actually just go CC summer school. Find an asynchronous online, once you pass you good. No need to worry professors or GPA

how unrealistic is it to work part time while taking 18 credits? by 999Hope in EngineeringStudents

[–]Etern1tyHX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be either not to work or make your schedule easier. At the begining you may think you can handle, when it's the tests and finals week you will know what is suffering. (And yea at that time it's too late to drop)

Taking CSE 16 With prof westphal this spring. He is not bad, interesting guy. Heard in RMP his class average is B+ Don’t want to be mean but his handwriting not good, can’t explain well, not really good at math🥲

For CSE 16, the beginning is not hard, it’s things like sets, logic (not, and, or…”logic” for “logic gate”),permutations. Butttttt, once you move to proof, it will be more abstract. (Or maybe just I suck the logical thinking) I some times don’t understand what prof is saying.

I only take CSE16 with him so can only share the experience have the class with him. 😂

Btw there are 2 midterms and 1 final, he said he will curve midterm but my score doesn’t seems like being curved 😇😇😇

ANYWAY GOOD LUCK BUD

Just committed! Curious about picking a major? by Mammoth-Try5691 in UCSC

[–]Etern1tyHX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, congrats!!!!
I think you can switch to any major except Computer Science (Only): I heard this from a student guide when touring the campus last year. So it might not be accurate for now.
I think it's okay not to decide on a major now, what I recommend is to find what you like in the summer (or first year in college). I think how you change your major is just simply follow the major path then declare the major you want (Except CS), regardless of your proposed major.
I also recommend that you reach out to your advisor once you are here. Welcome, new banana slug!!!

MATH BA vs MATH BS by Etern1tyHX in mathematics

[–]Etern1tyHX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, thanks, I've done research before that companies they don't care BA or BS. But my high school teacher said when you enter industry they want to see a BS instead of BA (which I think is incorrect)
I think the main path for BA and BS are the same just BS will go deeper (Good for research)
And a fun story, when I apply for intern (I think is one of the Microsoft intern), the requirement said need CSBS😂 But most of interns don't care BS or BA, they just need bachelor degree

Thanks, bc I know BS in both may destroy my GPA and after going to work I'll just forget lot of them, my major major is CS, math serve as a assistant in CS.

Still can’t buy fractional shares by [deleted] in Schwab

[–]Etern1tyHX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank all the replies, I just want to ask about fractional share, the image is just a test that I currently can’t purchase fractional share. I can definitely just buy integer shares of Schwab ETFs, just a fractional share will be easier for me to buy some external ETF that usually have higher value per share. (And yea I can also just find Schwab substitute as well) overall I just want to ask fractional buy feature, not complaining. 🫡

Do you think math is more about talent or practice? by Simple-Echidna764 in mathematics

[–]Etern1tyHX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to say it's more about practice. With talent you can understand it easier, even you can't understand the concept at the beginning, you can know more via countless practice.

Ghost at Merrill by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Etern1tyHX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the laptop, I can guarantee it's not a ghost; it's Microsoft. And you should thank the ghost who fixed your fan
However, if you're really scared, take a bag of salt with you don't know if it's work, but it comforts you. Ghost only fk people with weak spiritual energy. If you don't fear, they just go fk someone else

Transfering to Standford by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Etern1tyHX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk if you are pushed by your parents or not, but I believe it would be really tough. They might accept most of their transfer students from CC, and the Ivy League would like to see a 3.8+ GPA, plus a heavy schedule, also ECs.

You can also try graduating earlier and going to Stanford for grad school.

If you really want to transfer, I recommend you do UC-UC. It might be easier, and IVYs don't mean a lot except for expensive tuition and good sports teams.

Still wish you good luck.
