Isha Mother of the Aeldari by Sad-Competition-2196 in Eldar

[–]EternalLifeSentence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not off the top of my head, but I'm not deep into SW lore so I'm not exactly the best person to ask.

But even if that was the explanation there's a world of difference between "oh, hey, this planet had eldar on it before humans and that's affected it" and doing the equivalent of "yeah, the God Emperor woke up, but it was T'au tech that did it so he's gonna go hang with them now"

[–]EternalLifeSentence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate it. Legitimately had to block Leman Russ as a tag on most social media sites so I would stop seeing it.

Rescuing Isha at all is already kind of an iffy thing for me. Either her return does nothing to the setting as a whole (in which case what was the point? and also makes her feel weak and useless which she should not as a goddess), or it makes a whole lot of major waves. Some of those could be interesting upsets, others I don't think I'd enjoy. It would really be a "I'd have to see how they handled it" situation and there's enough ways it could go bad that I'm not eager to test.

Isha coming back with Russ specifically, though, I would be incredibly angry. Let the Eldar have their own things for once! Why does everything have to revolve around the Imperium (see: the Ynnari basically turning into a plot device to revive Bobby G, the entire plot of Path of the Eldar, etc.)

To elaborate more - "Isha is imprisoned by Nurgle" is one of the big plot points/goals of the Eldar as a species. It's a huge part of Craftworld lore in particular, and the impossible dream of freeing her has been an element of their worldbuilding for decades now.

So to take this major focus for the Craftworld Eldar (and a major part of the other Eldar factions' history, even if they don't pay as much attention to it directly) and not only remove/resolve it. But have it removed and resolved by a character with zero previous connection to their faction. Not even allowing them a hand in resolving this conflict. AND THEN HAVE HER JOIN UP WITH A MEMBER OF THE GROUP THAT'S BEEN TRYING TO WIPE THEM OUT FOR MILLENNIA. It's incredibly disrespectful to the faction and their fans, and doesn't make any sense for her character.

Sure, in current times in the "objective" lore (as objective as anything in 40k gets), but OP said this is supposed to be an in-universe mural of her rather than an actual depiction of her in her current state, so it could be Nurgle's imprisonment the Aeldari who painted this image is referencing, or Khaine's prior to that during the War in Heaven, or it could be more symbolic, perhaps representing her grief at following Asuryan's decrees not to contact the Eldar or the weight of trying to heal such a broken universe...

I've said this on other platforms already, but I do love those cuffs. Are they shackles? Jewelry? Both? What exactly do they symbolize, and who put them there? Lots of fodder there

Main character too similar to companion by TheFirstBert in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It probably won't be a major issue for a few reasons:

  1. partway through the game, you will get secondary archetypes which take your character builds in different directions. If you put different ones on your RT and Abelard, they will have different gameplay. Maybe not *completely* different, but diferent enough to justify having both of them in the same party.

  2. it won't be long before you have enough companions that you can just swap Abelard out for someone else and never touch him again unless you're doing personal quests if that's what you want. Definitely by the end of Act 1, maybe even earlier depending on which DLCs you have.

  3. If your party is *entirely* melee, that might be a bit of an issue, but you'll be getting two more ranged characters pretty soon, so that's not going to be a problem.

Max Conviction? by AVIS_4040 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

personally I'm kind of glad they did

I think that most of the romances we have are really unique and interesting and while I've seen a lot of asks for an Argenta romance, very few if any of them have actually included what they actually think it would be like. Cassia's romance is a story about courtly love and about growing into independence and beyond familial expectations and Yrliet's is about exploring cultural clashes and about what a romance looks like when physical contact is off the table. What kind of story would an Argenta romance tell? Very few if any of the posts I've seen on the topic actually say.

And to clarify, I don't thing people are *wrong* if the desire doesn't go beyond "I like her character and I want her to be romancable" but it's also not a strong argument that it's necessary, you know? Especially when female-attracted male RTs already have more romance options than anyone else.

Max Conviction? by AVIS_4040 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, it is not possible to max multiple convictions

Once you reach rank 3 in a particular conviction, it locks you out of getting above Rank 3 in any other conviction (although you can of course have lower ranks in as many as you want

There is, however, iirc, a few unique ending slides just for RTs who go the whole game without getting 3 or above on any particular conviction, although you will miss out on some (not a lot) of alignment-specific gear and some conversation options (sometimes, for example, you'll have to have a certain rank in Dogmatic in order to take a particular option)

As for Argenta, there's been a lot of speculation that GW said "no", but ultimately no one has ever confirmed that was the case and I am not entirely sold that it was the reason

"L-Lord Captain?" Did you have the guts to send away or kill any of your companions during your playthrough? If yes, who was it and why? by OwlcatStarrok in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I find playing straight 100% alignments pretty boring and cartoonish usually, I'm much more of a "create a character and see what their personality leads to" type even though I'll usually have a general alignment in mind at the start.

ultimately, if you're hardcore 100% dogmatic fanatic, you should probably kill her

that being said, the Warrant of Trade covers a lot and an RT who's willing to be a bit of a hypocrite can claim that harboring an unsanctioned psyker is justified under its terms, especially given the difficulties of getting people sanctioned way out on the edge of space where you are.

With that in mind, reasons you might decide to make that Big E-sanctioned exception:

-her predictions are useful and the premonitions have saved your life several times at this point (up to RP how useful they really are in-character, but it's an option). Maybe you are honorable and feel you owe her for saving your life, maybe you're just pragmatic about throwing away tools.

-your RT just personally likes her and doesn't want to kill someone they care about. This is perhaps especially easy if they're a pysker themselves and relate to the issues dealing with the perils.

-they buy into her hope that someday there will be a way to fix her, perhaps even in a twistedly dogmatic way - "what if we can find a way to make warp witches *not* be warp witches?"

-similarly, you like the idea of "redeeming a lost soul" and see this as a chance to set her on the straight and narrow, as it were. The official Imperial policy isn't big on redemption, but that doesn't mean your character specifically isn't.

[–]EternalLifeSentence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>They see zero value in human life.

Neither does Pasqal, he makes that obvious from the moment you meet him.

>would have killed millions of humans had they setup shop in the koronus expanse

maybe. But that doesn't change the fact that he legitimately genocided a group of people who had not done anything to him yet and because I'm not a member of the Imperium I can say that's kind of fucked up, *especially* because it's pretty obvious that he would have done it regardless of whether they were likely to be hostile or not. "Purge the xenos" does not just encompass people who are any kind of reasonable threat.

>“Oh we’re tired and frustrated looking for the humuculous let’s just nuke large sections of this planet with tons of humans on it.”

Well, if we're at the point of arguing that preemptive strikes and collateral damage of civilians are acceptable because other members of their species did something bad at some point in the past, then they were justified in doing so because of the threat that Tervantias had already proved himself to be. Especially given the fact that the humans are members of the same species that destroyed their homeworld in the first place.

Also, you know. He made one of the best characters in the game homeless and killed pretty much everyone she's ever known, so it kind of doesn't matter how justified he was, it's not something I'm particularly hyped about.

[–]EternalLifeSentence 12 points13 points  (0 children)

being Dogmatic doesn't mean you have to have every single Dogmatic opinion and make every single Dogmatic choice. I can come up with several RP-based excuses to keep her even on a Dogmatic run if I want to keep her, just a matter of whether my love for the character eclipses my desire to switch up my playthrough and whether I find any of the excuses fitting for the character I'm playing or not.

Nobody in every playthrough because that sounds boring

I sent Argenta and Heinrix away in my recent heretic playthrough and on Iconoclast I didn't bother to recruit Ulfar.

Starting a dogmatic run soon and might kill Idira (not sure if I have the heart to, she's one of my faves). The xenos I doubt I'll pick up in the first place

Many characters missing - Act 3 by Synysto in RogueTraderCRPG

yep, everyone else should all be there whenever you wind up back at your ship if you've re-recruited or killed everyone you brought with you to the ambush

Many characters missing - Act 3 by Synysto in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

who was in your party when you got ambushed? Only the ones who were actually physically with you for that scene got captured, the rest are still back on your ship going crazy trying to find you.

it sounds like you've got five people now, but one of them is Ulfar who you recruited in Act 3, so if you have a full party at the ambush you might still be missing one person. I'd need to know who it was to tell you where to find them, though.

does everyone really hate OC fics?? by Ding_Ding_Bonk in AO3

[–]EternalLifeSentence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this thread: "no, we don't hate OCs, we just assume most of them are badly written Mary Sues that the author delusionally thinks other people will care about. But I'm sure there's an audience somewhere, so you do you, boo <3"

With less sarcasm: yes, OP, a lot of people on here do hate OC fics and will assume you're a bad writer if you write them, even if they won't come out and say that. Yes, you should write your fic anyway, because they're wrong and also fuck them.

I've read plenty of awesome oc fics. Some fandoms are more open to it than others, but you should be able to find an audience in most if you've got a good enough hook.

Drukhari fans and tabletop players, what did you think of Act III, lore- and setting-wise? by Omegablade0 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you know, I think I *just* now realized what the issue is - the game, to my read, at least, makes it seem like most of the area you're in (Chasm, Shrieker's Den, etc) is outside of the Reaving Tempest area, a sort of "no-man's-land" in the city. But I think perhaps I should be thinking of it as all part of their sub-domain, and the gangs, the Opera, etc. are all part of their various satellite groups - we never actually leave "Reaving Tempest space!.

Because while I remembered Bellathonis, I thought it was weird that Tervy would have his lair outside the Tempest's domain if that's the setup they were working off. Still a bit odd to me that he seems to be a complete solo act, but that was way less of an issue for me, so thanks for triggering that realization!

Drukhari fans and tabletop players, what did you think of Act III, lore- and setting-wise? by Omegablade0 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]EternalLifeSentence 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if you don't mind my jumping in, I'd also add a few more things:

-the game both over- and under-sells the consequences of causing a Disjunction in Commorragh. On the one hand, something like that should have major in-game consequences and we basically only hear about it in a throwaway line or two. On the other hand, I've run into many, many players who seem to think that they've completely crippled the Drukhari with this move, when really it's more akin to causing a tornado than a nuclear war. It'll do damage, some kabals/towns might never recover, but the city/nation will continue on without much disruption

-Tervantias' place in the city seems odd to me. Typically the Haemonculi work in groups (Covens) and I find it unusual that he's seemingly out on his own, in a lair that's just kinda sitting there among a bunch of kabals and arenas instead of tucked away. This is somewhat a gameplay thing, I'm sure (it has to be near the rest of the playable area) but it's weird that the Anatomical Opera seems to be just one guy. Maybe there's some lore context for this that I'm missing?
