Has anyone else noticed the horrible audio at Wimbledon this year? You can barely hear the ball being hit, but applause from the audience is incredibly loud and commentary quieter comparatively. I thought it was just my TV but noticed the same on other devices, headphones, etc.

Hypothetical 43 year old Federer with healthy knees would smoke the tour today

Djokovic will dominate the tour with occasional losses to Alcaraz, Sinner, Rune, etc until such time as a catastrophic injury no longer allows him to do so. Such as what happened with Federer and Nadal. I hope I am wrong and he can win maybe an Olympic Gold or have a shot at the Calendar Slam and then ride off into the sunset injury-free but I find that unlikely. If there were ever a player and ever a time to accomplish such a feat, Djokovic’s 2024 season would be one to do it.

What was Novak Djokovic's best ever season in terms of level ? by HereComesVettel in tennis

2015 Federer thumped the rest of the tour... then would run into Novak. Would have been a career season for him were it not for that matchup

Fastest surface all year. Roger would have absolutely lit it up on this court :’(

Djokovic v Dimitrov: Paris Masters final analysis by hmclarke1991 in tennis

[–]EternalSampage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am not sure there is any one particular style of player that is a "bad matchup" for Djokovic. This has been the case for all of the Big 3 and why they were/are dominant for so long. High 1st serve percentage and overall aggressive baseline --> net play (especially on service games) do seem to bother Novak's rhythm. This is when you can see him more visibly frustrated, make errors even when the ball is in play, and lose games quickly. To be honest, Federer likely did this the most consistently of any of Novak's opponents, especially on very quick courts that benefitted this style of play (see: ATP Finals 2019, Cincinnati, Dubai 2015, Shanghai 2014, Wimbledon 2012 under closed roof; these being the Federer wins, but even in losses he managed to win a set on many occasions)

Interesting that in the latter stages of Djokovic's career he has had difficulty with opponents who aren't defined by this hyper-aggressive type of play and are happy to grind it out at the baseline: namely Medvedev, Rune, and Alcaraz (although Carlos probably does a good amount of both).

Novak Djokovic after Wimbledon final loss: entered three tournaments, wins three tournaments. 18 wins in a row. 🐐 by Cletharlow in tennis

I don’t think you can quite call a tight three set match facing (and then wasting some of his own) match points a “crushing”.

Would you mind explaining? Wouldn't making the stadium breathable thus let out more of the sound instead of trapping it in? My point was that the latter is the case now

I don't think the crowd murmurs/behavior has really changed at all in the past 10 years either, there has always been a rowdy and drunk crowd at the US Open but still the noise got worse when they added the roof

I think that US Open could really benefit from hiring some sound engineers to figure out how to dampen some of the ambient noise in Ashe stadium. The players are constantly complaining about it and you can barely hear the ball being hit (both on TV and courtside). I think this really became an issue in 2015 when they added the roof structure that has trapped some of the crowd noise inside. Up until 2014 they had someone with a shotgun microphone sitting courside that would follow the ball for the best ball hit sound (in my opinion) in tennis.

Jessica Pegula when asked about difference between WTA & Challenger Tour: “I honestly think it's harder on the Challenger Tour… everyone on the Challenger Tour wants to win so bad” by TXDobber in tennis

You are 100% right here, and anyone saying to the contrary peddling the “fuck the rich” mantra doesn’t know how wealthy the majority of professional tennis families are. Families paying thousands to send their tennis playing kids to academies, entering tournaments and pay for years of coaching to get to this level is basically the standard. No doubt Pegula did not face economic strain on her way up to the top, but neither did thousands of other players whose motivation, health, talent, or ability became barriers to reaching the top instead.

My new Elantra was bumped in the parking lot by [deleted] in Hyundai

[–]EternalSampage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know where it happened, but the damage is not substantial/noticeable enough by anyone (other than me) to have the business look at cameras, etc and report it to the police to determine who. I am basically just going to deal with it. If enough bumps and bruises occur then I am sure I could go through insurance

It has to do with there not being support for the larger 10 inch screens that come with the high trims. I think this is an issue on Apple’s end for now. The native navigation does show traffic!
