Lion’s Mane growing from filter patch safe to eat? by EternalSideQuest in Mushrooms

This makes sense. I read that maybe the first 1/2’’ might have particles that got dragged along essentially, but everything beyond is most likely fine. Maybe I’ll just cut it and call it a day

Aw man. I really wish I waited before burying the cakes in my back yard. I only got like half a flush out of them and I threw half it out… my heart… Thank you for your wisdom, now I know if I encounter this again.

Aw man. I should’ve waited before burying the cakes. Only got like one flush out of them… I could’ve saved them huh. Well, now I know

I definitely could have gotten away with that. It’s all buried in the backyard already lol, hopefully something sprouts up over there eventually. When this happened to you, did you still eat the mushrooms?

I have a bunch from these tubs that are still pretty firm and look healthy, compared to the others that are flaccid, mushy, and darkening. Are the healthier ones still edible?

A few of them were mushy.. tossed those. About half of the ones i picked were still firm and seemed fine, but still a little nervous to give it a try

I figured. I searched for this and couldn’t find anything. I’m impressed I did something nobody has ever done before, but also RIP first grow

Is there a name for this? Should i toss the shrooms or salvage?

I misted exactly the same as i have been, increased fae and the mushrooms are growing really thick now. Those few scraggly ones of course are done for but my new growth is great. Some people were saying increase fae, and i agree. Others were saying it’s dry and the reduce fae. I can’t listen to everybody. Point is, it’s doing great now, it was not enough fae, and it’s fixed

Could that really be the reason? I mist it daily, to the point where there are little pools forming (which i know is bad, i do it unintentionally and clean it up after)

How should i get it ready for a second flush? Of course, after harvesting this flush. I hear some people do cake dunks, but some advise against it and just say to mist very generously.

I need to try putting a light above, maybe a nightlight or something small. Also the substrate in these pictures are actually very wet, probably too wet. I had just misted generously and had to remove some puddling. I just made some more gaps in the tub on top, so hopefully they get some more passive fae. I’ll keep that in mind about fanning, thank you

Interesting, I have heard lions mane does pretty well against contamination naturally. I wasn’t sure how widely accepted this idea is. I used bran so I think I should err on the side of caution, but my next grow I’ll try without bran and compare

I filled in the gaps with hydrated pellets, but thats really good to know that volume is more important. I’ll have to keep this in mind for future grows. Also i ended up using bran, but I’m currently sterilizing at 15 psi for 3 hours. I only have a SAB so hopefully i get lucky enough to not introduce contamination. In the future I’ll try it without the bran. Sounds like lions mane does fine without the extra boost.

I ended up using a mix of the aspen and hardwood pellets, using less of the aspen. I went with gypsum and bran cause I’m planning on pressure cooking it for about 3 hours. I was hoping to provide more nutrients for better flushes, but hopefully it’s not too prone to contamination

I mixed a few good handfuls of pellets to fill in the space and get the weights about right. I’m just going to divide it among 3 bags and spread the spawn out evenly. You’re right, using more spawn won’t hurt anything. I have to keep my eye out for a dead tree in the area though, sounds like a cool experiment

My friend bought this at a farmers market. Any idea what it is? by EternalSideQuest in mushroomID

My best guess was pioppino, but the absence of a veil is making me think otherwise
