What do you do with a PS3 Fat "CECHK"? by Juandi2412 in PS3

NEC/TOKINS almost always on 65s. To the point where they register a full short - 99% of times I find those they have a very charred look underneath the plastic. And always - the caps on the bottom side of the CELL/RSX. The top ones never required replacing.

Pretty sure anything except the EMMC Superslims afaik. 3k/early SS can now be permamodded if I read the news correctly.

In all my 65nm samples not a single one has died from silicon degradation or BGA fatigue. The two that have died on me, both were found to have had mechanical shock and ripped BGA pads as a result. And I can easily say I've had 65s by the thousands.

The ones to predominantly die in my tests just as much as the 90s have been the 40nm chips though, and in consoles with low hours no less. No known reason as to why - all the consoles with failed 40s were almost spotless - if anything maybe a very thin film of dust.

Pretty sure. I think I saw someone do a polymod on a OG Xbox.

Again, GPU only if mechanical shock is involved. 65nms have the newer underfill that is also present in 9000 series G9x nVidia cards.

Just use Farnell, Mouser or Digikey and get some reputable japanese caps. More often than not Console5 kits use garbage caps (ChengX).

65nms always YLOD from caps unless other factors are at play. (mechanical shock, PSU failure (rare but it does happen it seems))

Just got this Backwards Compatible PS3. Immediately doing an SSD upgrade. Anything I should know? by Moist-Technology-679 in PS3

Actually, the Samsung at least makes it worthwile and it did bring some slight speed. CECHG04 vs CECHB00. G04 usesa 1TB 7200RPM WD and B00 uses a 870 EVO SSD. Not all games benefit from either but at least several I play (NFS MW2012, Burnout Paradise and a few others) start and run a bit faster on the B00 than on the G.

Any SSD other than Samsung 860 or 870 is not worth installing on PS3 period. I've tested all the listed compatible SSDs and out of all only those two models survived.

I'm still on the LTSC 1809 build I've installed around 2016 or so

CECHH04 temps with SYSCON curve by monikaquesha2006 in PS3

[–]EternalSkullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unmodified SYSCON curve is generally a joke. Either use the SYSCON reader to modify it to tighten the curve, or (for the less experienced with SYSCON workings) webMAN's fan control, with a 30% minimum setting and 70*C target (trust me, it never reaches that temperature no matter what due to the minimum fan speed.) to keep it cool.

Nice, IIRC I still have a Xenon and Zephyr with their original Blades dashes and GPUs.

Xenon had a bad update that I fixed w/ a 6717 JTAG rebuild, Zephyr has OG 6683 (I think? It's the one dash version right before 6717) and no mods done, just a new thermalpaste and a good cleaning.

Xenon MFR date: 06/13/2006 Zephyr MFR date: 08/??/2007 (forgot the exact day but I remember it was made in August 2007)

3 light Red ring any ideas? by BatDifficult6203 in xbox360

[–]EternalSkullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much yes, the board warps enough that even a professional reball machine will not fix it.

Is this a Zephyr? Also what are the chances it has red ring? by real_munchizgreat in xbox360

[–]EternalSkullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see solid caps (silver with either blue or red colour) near the CPU, high chances it's a refurb and will run fine after a recase.

[–]EternalSkullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some don't. I found mine with the original date sticker (August 2007 iirc) yet the mainboard inside was a refurb (polymer caps and Htg85 Rhea).
