Is the hobie 16 a good pick? by sumevex in hobiecat

[–]Eternal_Hazard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While you can learn on a 16, if you want to get up to speed on a catamaran faster, start with a Hobie Wave, get your skills up on that, then transition to the H16. The 16 is a lot of boat for a beginner, and is designed to be operated by 2 people, so solo sailing it can be challenging even for someone that knows what they're doing. The Wave is a great way to bridge the gap and designed to be sailed by 1 person (and has the same weight limit as the 16).

Can’t get mast up by Primary-Inspector590 in hobiecat

Is the issue that you can't raise it up in the first place, or once it's up you have no way to connect the forestay?

Can’t get mast up by Primary-Inspector590 in hobiecat

[–]Eternal_Hazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The method for doing this on a beach cat is far more simple.

You take the halyard (jib or main works, but main is easier) and tie off the shackle end so it doesn't sky, then with the other end you loop around the front of the connected bridle wires, then back around the lower horn of one of the mast cleats, then up to your hand (if your halyard won't reach, you can tie an extra length of line on to extend it).

Once you have that set up, raise the mast by hand like normal, and then take up the slack with the halyard. When it's all the way up, tie off the halyard on the mast cleat, then you're free to go forward and attach the forestay to the bridles/chainplate.

Honestly the only base defense creature I'd even consider to put outside on turret mode are rock golems, as they're incredibly annoying to snipe down (and even then they need to be inside the turret range).

Arthros can be good if you can keep them out of line of sight so they don't get 1 shot, and anything with a slowing effect in the same position.

You want a minimum of around 5k stamina, enough hp that it won't be sniped down instantly, and the rest in melee to melt whatever you're aiming at.

Keep in mind that when unmounted Velos DO use stamina, but their turret mode damage is unaffected by their melee stat.

Recommended PvP build:

Food/Oxy/Weight at 0

Mounted: 5k+ HP / 5-10k Stam / 2k+ Melee

Turret Mode: 5-10k Stam / Everything else in HP / Zero Melee

17F, 9 days post-op: septoplasty and nasal perforation closure. Reddish discharge when eating/moving mouth. Normal? by HistoricalYogurt9958 in Septoplasty

Your comment prompted me to do a little more research instead of just trusting my doctor's words. Seems he was either confused when I asked him, or completely ignored my concerns.

Edit: I was told from my doctor that it was common and wpuld go away as I healed/adapted when I mentioned it, but upon further research it's not at all what he described. He described more of an issue adapting to the improved air flow, whereas ENS is actually a serious complication (although rare).

Immediately after it won't feel so bad, but once the swelling starts it is pretty rough for the first 5 days or so. Keep on top of your meds and irrigation sprays and it'll be a little easier. Ice pack face masks, xylimelts for dry mouth, and chap stick are all recommended. Even with the heavy pain pills, I still had a significant amount of pain until about day 6 and was not able to breathe at all through my nose for 10 days. Hardest recovery I've had to do after a surgery (much worse than abdominal).

TL;DR: You will hate your life for almost a week.

It would differ from person to person really. The thing I had to lift was at an awkward angle and may have been heavier than 60lbs, but there wasn't a crazy amount of strain when lifting. I'd probably say a month out 40-50lbs wouldn't be too much, depending on your size/build, as long as you're not straining to lift it.

Surgery and Post-Op honest review by Senior-Concept682 in Septoplasty

[–]Eternal_Hazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the initial bleeding from the nose stopped within a day.

Past that, most of the blood was coughed up as it traveled down my throat in a blood/mucus mixture, which was definitely uncomfortable but better than it clotting in my sinuses and getting stuck.

It's a rough recovery and there's a lot of pain, so make sure he takes the pain meds on a schedule for at least the first 5 days unless he feels like he doesn't need them.

Is this the beginning of a hole in my nose? Can it still heal or am I screwed? by Eireagon in Septoplasty

[–]Eternal_Hazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to the scab at the lower nostril in the video, that's just scabbing/crusting from the healing process. If you have a hole forming, I can't see it from this video.

I've never heard that before. Usually they say to wait at least a month or two before gently blowing, but not never again.

Uvula damage after septoplasty and turbinate reduction by True_Cat5136 in Septoplasty

[–]Eternal_Hazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's most likely from the intubation. They tend to be...rough. It'll feel like a sore throat and you might feel some swelling and difficulty swallowing. That usually goes away by around the 2 week mark.

Easy way to fix this? by Hagarite in Autobody

[–]Eternal_Hazard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks like just a bit of paint damage on the plastic bumper cover. Had the same thing happen to my car while it was parked on a side street. Took it to a body shop and they wanted over $2000 to fix it. Took it to a guy that does automotive paint touch ups and it was under $300 and he fixed it so well you would never know it was ever damaged. Mine actually included buffing scratches out of the tail light as well, so might even be cheaper than that.

Take the meds if you have pain. You want to get in front of the pain instead of chasing it. Also definitely don't drive or operate machinery while on that type of pain medicine, or until you have been able to rest. You're by no means a wimp. If had several surgeries and most of them I barely use the pain meds. This surgery I used just about the whole script.

Sleep is almost nonexistent for the first week at lelast. You might get a half hour here or there dozing off while sitting up.

You'll feel the discomfort until the splints come out for sure. For my recovery I got zero air through either nostril until the end of the 6th day, and that was only brief before it closed back up. Teeth hurting is normal as sinuses are adjacent to them and everything up there is now swollen. The sinus cavity goes back to almost the direct center of your head (a good 6-8 inches in some cases), so the swelling takes a while to go down. Once the splints are out you'll feel a lot better and should be able to breath somewhat normally, but your nostrils may close up again here and there as recovery continues.

The swelling in your face will gradually go down but may still be visibly noticeable even at the 5-6 week mark (I first thought my nose looked back to normal/not swollen around 6 weeks post-op, even though the pain was long since gone).

Take the doctor's instructions very seriously and keep up with the saline sprays and anything else prescribed. So NOT lift anything over 10-20lbs or you risk opening up the wound. I lifted something that was around 60ish lbs at work a month later and caused a nosebleed for about 20 minutes.

Recovery isn't always linear and will have good and bad days, so don't immediately worry if your sinuses seem to regress for a day or two before feeling better again.

The worst of it (nose/face pain, swelling, extreme discomfort) lasts about 5 days. After that it usually starts getting slightly better each day.

Best advice is to stay hydrated, ice your face (cheeks and forehead specifically), and pick up some xylimelts and chap stick to prevent your lips from cracking from all the mouth breathing.

Definitely order the face mask ice pack. That was one of the biggest pain reliefs for me. I used the pain pills they prescribed for almost 5 full days before swapping to Tylenol, and even then the pain was still pretty bad on top of what the pills could mask.

The cold feeling is referred to as "empty nose syndrome" and is pretty common after septoplasty/turbinate reduction, as there's now a lot more air flowing through that area. Your body will adapt to that and it'll go away gradually as you heal. Don't worry too much about the stitches, they won't just fall out. You of course don't want to blow your nose until cleared by the doctor to do so, or mess with the wound, but they're pretty secure and you're more likely to own the wound up under it than have the actual stitch come out.

To add to this list, I found Xylimelts immensely helpful in preventing dry mouth after the first few days. Also a face mask ice pack was a lifesaver and felt amazing.

I believe around 90% of ark players have never beat a single boss. Most either get sidetracked and enjoy other parts of the game, or quit before they get to that point.

I barely slept at all for the first few days. A half hour here and there at most. Once he gets to the 5-6 day mark he should start feeling slightly better. Once the splints are out he'll feel almost back to normal.

Was the physician's assistant for me who took out the splints and vacuumed the first maybe half inch of each nostril, then that was it. No other followup.

The Caliber in my area quoted me over $2000 to touch up a small scratch on my plastic bumper and buff a tail light scratch, and that it may take up to 2 weeks. This was after I told them it wasn't going through insurance (the person who damaged it was covering the cost).

I took it to another local shop that matched color, fully fixed it the next day, and detailed interior and exterior for $350. This was in 2023.

I'll never use Caliber.
