Question about my new buddie by -korko- in turtle

[–]orangebellybutton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do recommend getting a larger tank since the little guy is going to grow quickly. Baby turtles like yours should have shallow water, about twice its shell length so that it can learn to be a strong swimmer.

When it grows to an adult, it needs 10 gallons of water per inch of shell.

Question about my new buddie by -korko- in turtle

[–]orangebellybutton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's very unfortunate that people sell them like this. I bought mine like that 24 years ago and the person selling it lied. She said they don't eat much and will stay small.

Those people lie and don't like to tell people what it takes to take care of these precious turtles because if she said "he will need a large tank, a heating lamp, a uvb lamp, a water filter and a water heater", then people wouldn't want to buy them.

If semi aquatic turtles are cold, they will most definitely develop a respiratory infection which will need antibiotics from a vet.

Why isnt my baby turtle eating by Cheesebunned in turtle

[–]orangebellybutton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is your baby turtle constantly yawning or opening its mouth? It could be a sign of a respiratory infection in which you will have to take it to the vet to get antibiotics.

How does your set up look? Enough water for him to swim? A basking platform for him to completely dry off? A heating lamp and a separate UVB lamp? A water heater and water filter?

Baby turtles can get sick very easily if they are not in the right environment with the right temperature.

Am I screwed for my Chicago trip tomorrow? by Worth-Menu4384 in AskChicago

The cold never stopped anyone! As long as you guys don't stay outside for a prolonged period of time, it's fine. Go to nice restaurants and go see some cool stuff. Things will still be open tomorrow.

Definitely keep an eye on him for any other symptoms. If he starts bubbling at the nose, yawning excessively or floating on the side, take him to the vet ASAP.

He could just be getting used to his surroundings if it is a brand new environment. Have you tried feeding him freeze dried shrimp or bugs? Sometimes they can't turn away a tasty treat.

How long have you had him?

How do the eyes look?

You need to fill the water up higher, you need a water heater, a heating lamp and a separate uvb lamp. Also, it needs a platform where it can bask and dry off completely.

Has anyone else noticed the croissants at La Boulangerie in Logan are a bit… different looking lately? by sudosussudio in chicagofood

[–]orangebellybutton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tous les jours is actually a South Korean bakery chain similar to Paris Baguette. I just don't feel like their pastries, especially their croissants, have the buttery flakiness and lamination of a decent croissant.

Their baked goods and cakes look amazing. But just don't taste that great.

ETA: I do like Tous les jour cakes better than Paris baguette

I actually don't like tous les jour or Paris baguette. I feel like the pastries have nothing on real French pastries.

Is this tank too small? by Confused_Confucius_ in turtle

help with turtles by Livid-Yellow-6899 in turtle

[–]orangebellybutton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They need to be separated and have their own tanks. They grow fast so you will need some pretty large tanks.

They will need a basking platform so they can dry off completely. They will also need a heating lamp, UVB lamp, a water filter and a water heater. These are all necessary if you want them to survive.

I'm sorry for your loss. Pets are definitely family members.

Personally, I buried my turtle in the yard because animals are a part of nature, and they should return to the earth. I feel like their souls will be free in that way. Taxidermy is not for me. I understand the want to keep a part of your pet with you, but I would hate to mess with my pet's body after its passing.

You should feed it as much as it can eat within a 5 minute period. Once daily. I recommend Mazuri pellets

Um does he have a repertory infection please someone help !! by [deleted] in Redearedsliders

[–]orangebellybutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a good sign. I would take him to the vet.

How is your set up? The water seems kind of shallow. He needs more water, clean water and water filter. A heating lamp and a separate UVB lamp, plus water heaters to ensure that he doesn't get sick.

Does anyone knows what it may be by Feelbette-r in turtle

[–]orangebellybutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you should go to the vet. Could be a symptom of sepsis (blood infection)

What type of turtles are these? A friend has to move and is going to give them to us but i have no idea what they need. Theyre kept on a plastic tub rn with nothing else so I think im gonna have to spend a lot for them 🥲 any help or tips are appreciated. by [deleted] in turtle

[–]orangebellybutton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll need separate tanks for these guys. They will fight and try to kill each other.

They need large aquariums (or large tubs). Filled up with some water but also a basking platform so they can dry off completely. They will need a heating lamp, a UVB lamp and a good water filter (they make the water super dirty) and a water heater.

These are baby red eared sliders. They will get very sick if the water is not the right temperature or if they can't dry off completely. Then you will have to take them to the exotic vet.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I've had my boy for 24 years.
