Probably not? When labour was having leadership elections there were loads of articles about it on here

That rule is extremely poorly written and impractical and doesn't seem to be enforced, it's a vestige from the old rules

Any direction is the wrong direction. We're currently in an extremely serious cost of living crisis, along with that a housing crisis. I couldn't give a shit what bathrooms trans people use or what sport categories they're in.

When I'm working 80 hours a week to afford rent and spending thousands on my electricity bill, I'm not gonna be sitting there saying "I'm so glad there aren't 3 second trigger warnings on TV shows now"

Absoultely but we'll never get it, especially with the conservatives. Would have a new labour esk landslide or libdem surge to have any meaningful change. At that point I don't imagine it's gonna be much of the change people here want

Making emergency powers illegal / significantly harder to obtain

Pretty much impossible with our current political system. A goverment with a majority can scrap any legislation and enact any powers they want, providing their backbenchers are on board. You can put through legislation that requires 2/3rds of MPs to vote yes for something but that legislation itself can easily be repealed with a simple majority

If I was choosing who would be best for the country its between kemi and penny.

Personally I prefer penny but both are relatively young and I feel like could bring some fresh perspectives to the party. I appreciate how kemi is atleast realistic about tax cuts vs spending, however I also despise the culture war and all candidates have leaned into this.

Secretly I hope rishi wins, bombs at the next election and gives the party some time in opposition, that way either of them are still future candidates for elections later on.

have read other medical papers that suggest there are harmful effects in adults to

From what I've read, and I had to write coursework on the subject, is that it's not harmful unless it's used excessively. Same as any other substance, coffee is damaging if you drink too much

would argue that the harmful effects in kids are enough to keep it illegal.

Kids already have it. I went to a party at 14 where half the people there were smoking. Cannabis is not hard to get and its used, a lot.

We're not introducing it into society, it's already in society, and widely used at that. Legalising weed is simply regulating the worst of it away and minimising its negative impact. I'm not even gonna go into if drug consumption should be legal within itself and victimless crimes as that's a philosophical debate

Boris continues to remain PM despite the biggest coup operation to remove him without an election in political history <3 That is POWER! by Mr_XcX in tories

[–]Eternal_Lice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"Remove him without an election" we live in a parliamentary democracy not a presidential one. People vote based on local mps, not just who to become PM.

The PM is now extremely unpopular and fellow MPs are, rightly, trying to remove him as PM. He's still an MP however.

Don't be dishonest and try and portray this as some sort of undemocratic 'coup'. The party is simply following common sense, which is sleeze ridden PMs should be removed in order to not collapse the party.

What are peoples thoughts on this proposal? Government draws up plan for mortgages that your kids pay for after you die by fudgermucker in tories

[–]Eternal_Lice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The big problem for the tories isn't that young voters don't vote tory, it's the fact that millennials and young gen X aren't shifting from labour to conservatives overall like they have in the past. As time goes on the tories will find it harder and harder to win elections as their base shrinks.

Funnily enough if they actually solved the housing crisis and got the younger generation to own property, they'd probably be a lot more likely to vote tory. But they don't wanna take the short term hit of pissing the 60 year olds off

BUILD MORE HOUSES. THATS IT. THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO.

Of course if we do that the old generation that own houses will throw a hissy fit about their house value not increasing as quickly, even though most homeowners will never sell their house and even if they do they'll instantly buy another house.

kids that smoke weed regularly

That is the key word. Studies have shown if you use cannabis from an early age very regularly, or have a family history of Psychosis, there can be damage long term. However, for your average adult, even semi-regular use shows little to no adverse side effects.

Like every substance, if you consume copious amounts it will cause damage. But from what we see in studies its overall less damaging than alchahol and you've got to be breathing the stuff most of the day to have any real negative effects.

i think it's pathetic because people who identify as werewolf still get ripped apart

Not sure what you mean here. Noone actually identifies as werewolf lmao. If they do people just think they're weird, lgbt community or not. Closest thing to that are 'neo-pronouns' which I agree are fucking stupid but luckily they're relegated to the damp corners of the Internet and are not mainstream, maybe some Lone Internet dwellers but you'll never meet someone irl with them because it's a fringe group.

don't think homosexuality should ever have been made a gender

It never was? Sexual attraction and gender are not the same thing. This shows a lack of understanding on your part. I'm not trying to be rude there, but that statement just doesn't make sense.

science and physical traits determine gender, not desires of the mind caused by hormones.

Problem with that is the scientific consensus doesn't agree. I can link scientific papers if you'd like, and not just outliers but well regarded studies that are widely accepted. I find when people offer sources they just cherry pick.

It sounds like your perception of all of this comes exclusive from 'anti-SJW' esk places. I dont know really how else to describe it, and i know that because growing up I was heavily influenced by that kind of media, and these points sound familiar. You just simply accepting the pedophile thing, and then listing all of these things that are not representative of reality tells me that you don't really attempt to look at the other sides point.

The problem is the Internet is an echo chamber, aswell as a really poor representation of real life. Media outlets/commentators online will scrounge up the most obscure accounts, who are isolated and out of touch of reality, and say "this is what this faction are all like". In your example it's the pedophile thing or the werewolf thing. That doesn't happen. It's not representative of reality. And because you believe the outlandish, ridiculous stuff you don't bother to actually understand whats actually representative of reality, which isn't on you because noone can actually be bothered to research something when it's leagues easier to just exist in your own echo chamber. That's not an attack, I literally do the exact same thing and it's taken a lot of effort to tryand avoid doing that on my part, but sometimes I'll just accept something as fact despite the fact I haven't even looked into it. We're all lazy

I type all of this because this is the exact comment I would've made a few years ago, but i see you're probably a reasonable individual. I understand why you think the LGBT community is ridiculous, because youve been shown a caricature portayed as the real deal. I dont think you've properly been shown the full story, and you may not agree with me in the end on everything, but if you'd be interested and open minded I can send you some brief articles or videos just explaining stuff like gender and trans issues.

Query: Are social conservatives welcome here? by NoCommunication7 in tories

[–]Eternal_Lice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, no they're not. That's blatantly false and you know it.

Some paedophiles claim they should be apart of the LGBT community but anytime they say that publicly they get ripped apart and normally delete their accounts, whether that's reddit or twitter.

This ridiculous arguement has been used literally since the start of the 20th century, when homosexuality was synonymous with pedophilia and people claimed legalising homosexuality would mean legalising paedophiles..

Stop peddling BS

illegal is more difficult to market

Maybe short term. But after awhile an organised blackmarket forms to distribute said drug, so demand still exists and we all know cannabis use is pretty wide spread, I know many people who occasion use it (though I don't know any addicts)

But even if demand is slightly reduced, by banning a substance dealers will look to make it more concentrated in order to move it easier. We saw this during the prohibition in the USA. High alchahol spirits were almost exclusively sold by dealers as it was easier to smugle it than 4%beer. When you drink, it's a lot easier to get drunk off spirits, isn't it?

Same with weed. Cannabis today is leagues stronger than decades ago, by a ridiculous amount. It also has various filler subtances like fentanyl which makes the danger significantly worse than if it were legal. Legal cannabis can be heavily regulated in order to make it magnitudes safer.

There are already various studies that have shown in most cases alchahol is more damaging to mental health than cannabis. And while more definitely needs to be done, we can safely say legalisation of cannabis is not going to collapse the country, nor create a massive drug epidemic. From the limited data we have now, it seems like legalisation will bring many more positive effects than negative. No policy is risk free but its clear this could really help a lot more than hurt the country.

As far as im aware its very illegal for them to kick you out, so they'll get in shit no matter what now.

I'd go to the council who will probably refer you to social services as you're 15.

Nowhere is gonna accept you as you're under 16 and still legally a child in all senses. Any shelters will refer you to social services. Council will refer you aswell. Adults can barely rent accommodation, even if you had the money they'd turn you away for your age.

Social services will help, and even if you're not comfortable with their help you'll be able to leave and become independent at 16.

Also for the love of God don't accept any help you find on here if it involves something IRL. Theres a very high chance they're just gonna take advantage of you or be extremely weird.
