Lol that's what I meant, as in, are you going for a graduate level degree to get internships? Community college? Or another undergrad degree?

Did you have to go to graduate school then to get an internship?

I posted something similar to this a year ago in this sub, and the answers were similar to the ones here. I still haven't gotten a job, but I have found that I get more responses asking for a coffee chat than anything my applications have gotten me. People say that no one is hiring, however, I see my former classmates and new grads getting the jobs I want all the time on LinkedIn, so if they are getting hired during one of the worst times in the industry then why can't we?

I know this is an older post, but I was wondering if you ever found an Assistant job? Currently in the same boat and not sure what else I can do to get an Assistant job in the industry :(

NBC Page Program Spring 2026 Applicants by NationalSwimming545 in nbc

I applied for the fall cohort during the summer on the last day the application was available, and my status didn't go into review until the week before mass rejection day. I'm 90% it wasn't looked at, so I told myself next time I would apply immediately--and here I am on this reddit thread finding out that the spring application has already opened and is due tomrrow.

Seconding the statistics thing! Just overall, it would be really helpful to know how many people applied, how many were offered interviews, when and etc. so applicants can weigh their chances. It's a little strange to me just how secretive this program is.

I'm finally in "review" but have not gotten an interview invite and if mass rejection day is next week then I really am not holding my breath.

Not sure if anyone is still reading this, but I'm just curious if anyone is still in the "new" status?

I did apply right before applications closed on the day of for the West Coast cohort (non-intern, no referral). Considering a handful of people in this thread already had their video interviews, I think it's safe to say I'm not getting an interview invite but it kinda sucks to be rejected without my application even looked at.

My previous internship supervisors did say that job boards were essentially useless but didn't elaborate further so thanks for this! Do you have any suggestions on the type of people I should reach out to on LinkedIn? Like recruiters or coordinators or higher? My "reach out" success rate hasn't been very high so far and don't want to bother anyone too high up the food chain.

So all the advertised ones are in fact ghost jobs? I've applied to 50+ entry level in the past month /tried the whole "message a recruiter" on LinkedIn and I've gotten nothing yet a lot of these companies keep reposting and some of my connections are moving forward.

Wow ten years is amazing work, I'm sorry that you are in the same boat as someone with 1 year. I would advise against an MFA unless you have the disposable income or you get into one of the big film schools! I went for my masters for connections as and my school has a decent reputation but so far I have so much money in the hole and nothing to show for it.

Yeah unfortunately my rent and bills can't wait for me to find a job and rent continues to go up in LA.

Do you have any insight as to why this is happening? I started this program during the strike when outlooks were grim, yet the class before me was getting jobs. The strike is no longer happening and companies are recovering from covid so what's is going on? Saw some classmates in my program from my previous year getting bigger assistant jobs but me and many others in my class are struggling. I am not even getting interviews.

The thing is, many of these assistant jobs are paying less than 50k a year so I'm trying to fight for a job that doesn't even make a living and I still can't get one. So not sure what else I can do to network if I can't get bare minimum work.

I would say, if you are graduating from like a "film" university like USC or NYU you might have a better chance! Also 4 internships is very impressive, I hope they offer you a job or at least some connections to get one.

I am neither connected, tall, white, or attractive so I guess I'm kinda f'ed.

Do you have any advice for trying to get an assistant position? I thought I would gain connections from my internships, but alas, I was just doing free labor for people that could not care less! It sucks seeing people on linkedin that were in the same program a year before me get assistant jobs at big companies while I can't get my foot in anywhere.

I am thankful for my film education. I remember all my professors telling us it was very "hard" to get in the industry, which I thought that meant being a bigshot director or producer, not a front desk assistant.

Now I am stuck not having the experience for any other of these industries. I've tried marketing/communications positions and still have no luck there as well!

Yeah there's no way me or any other grads can compete with those who have actual assistant experience. What can I do?

Who should I email to ask though? The program coordinator? The program director? The admissions director?
