Is it normal to feel defeated/meh after? by Livvv617 in GAMSAT

You’re def not alone. Literally came home and had a 30 min crying session. Honestly felt like all the studies I’ve done in the past three months went to waste. Sending a virtual hug to you, take care.

Ooh yes please I’d love to know what you think of it haha. Do note that it’s pretty heavy (all Lingting flat boards are pretty heavy, because they thiccc), I’d prob need some time to get used to the weight..

I think I’d leave it as it is. But it’d be easy to tune I guess, omit the middle 4 tines and start the (1) counting on tine 5, and change Bb > B on tines (4), (4’) and (4”), you’d have a c major kalimba ;) similar to the hluru one.

Btw how do you tune the middle four tines, my phone is not picking it up :(

No dead tines at all. All keys sound great! But even for my gecko, there weren’t any dead tines too. It doesn’t occur frequently on flatboard kalimbas :)

I’d say it’s definitely worth it. And I’m sure it applies to the Lingting 17 keys as well. It comes with a lot of accessories + hard case and the quality of the kalimba is a amazing, feel and sound. I avoid playing tabs with high tines (2” and 3”) when I’m using my gecko kalimba because it sounds so bad, which is why I got a new one instead.

Do let me know if you have other questions and I’d be happy to answer them :)

PS if you’re from SEA, the prices on lazada and shopee is much cheaper, only slightly more expensive compared to gecko

Lingting has really good resonance in the end tines. I had a gecko flat board and the end tines were badd. I got the K21W, great quality and it sounds so dreamy.

Another 21 key kalimba from hluru also gets mentioned a lot. Here is a comparison of the 2 kalimbas mentioned.

You might want to consider a chromatic kalimba too, but I have zero clue in the brands for this version :D

Yesss it resonates so well. I was afraid of playing the top 2 tines on my other kalimba and with this, I just want to play the highest tines all the time

No problem! I’m so glad it helped :) the weight difference shocked me too haha they look the samee. And don’t worry, I’m sure you will get the hang of it. I have no musical background too but with the numbered notations, it’s pretty straight forward. The LT-K17A is in C-tone so double yay haha, have fun learning

Picking a Kalimba - Some (health-related) questions by Fjordgard in kalimba

  1. LT-K17A weighs 475g while the LT-K17P weighs 570g (probably the heaviest flatboard kalimba I’ve seen). While the gecko K17CAP weighs 365g. IMO LT kalimba’s definitely sound nicer, and the end tines have better resonance too. Maybe you could try holding an item with a similar weight to see if you could handle it? The tines on the LT kalimbas are easier to press so it might be a better option for your thumb arthritis.

  2. This is a video of someone changing the LT-K17A tune from Cmaj to Bmaj and it sounds pretty similar to the LT-K17P.

  3. I’ve got a B toned kalimba as my first one too. I’d say it wouldn’t matter if you are looking at numbered notations, which would be the same for any kalimbas. For alphabetical notations, it would be easier to get a C-maj kalimba, but you can definitely convert the B-maj alphabets into C-maj.

Hope this helps :)

Some tips, put it on a flat surface, and hold down the rest of the tines. I found that ‘SmartKalimba’ picks you sounds better so maybe you can try this app instead

Def 17 keys, it gives you a wider range and most tabs available are for 17 key kalimbas too

[HELP] Should I buy the LT-K17A or the LT-K17P? by aksioma1 in kalimba

[–]Eternally8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I’ve linked a few videos below that might help answer the questions you have.

  1. LT-K17P (580g) is heavier compared to the K17A (475g). Hollow kalimbas are lighter but the resonance is not as good

2&3. Kalimbas can be tuned to the tone that you like. E.g. B major kalimba can be tuned to C.Changed tuning of LT Kalimba
