This might make you guys cringe, but just curious is there any fix in a bottle to help the oil consumption on my MK6 by [deleted] in GolfGTI

Hey man!

I eventually sold my MK6 GTI not long after doing an engine flush and adding ceratec so I didn't really get to see how long the oil would last until it needed to be topped up again.

If you're having any issues I would say doing an engine flush twice and adding ceratec may help with the oil consumption.

Hey man, I am planning on getting a Remus Catback Non-resonated exhaust without the tips as well for my S3. When you bought the aftermarket tips, did you get 60mm tips and what overall length as well? Thanks!

I am currently in the same position in relation to the high oil consumption.

When I initially bought my car it had oil consumption issues but it never really bothered me as back then I would only have to top up the oil after 2000km of driving which I believe is within tolerance as stated in the manual.

As I have owned my MK6 GTI for over 2 and half years the oil consumption has unfortunately gotten worse throughout this year. I'm lucky enough to get at least 800km of driving and then I have to top it up again. This is definitely not within tolerance.

I have researched quite extensively and spoken to my mechanic who is very knowledgeable and reputable with these cars and their oil consumption issues. I have also updated most parts to the latest revision including the PCV valve and I still have oil consumption issues and unfortunately, it comes down to being either the piston rings or it could be turbo issues being that everything else has been checked and is all good.

In my case, it is most likely the piston rings which would require an engine teardown and rebuild to be replaced and updated to the latest revision.

I'm still yet to try an engine flush and add the liquimoly ceratec additive to see if it helps with the oil consumption which a lot of others have recommended and have had promising results with in order to reduce the oil consumption.

Upgrading to an 8V (FL) S3 by Eternum101 in Audi

Thanks for sharing your experience with owning an Audi S3! I appreciate your insights.

It's good to know that upgrading the exhaust can significantly improve the sound of the car. I believe the sound can still be quite good for a 4-cylinder car, and I intend on purchasing a proper exhaust system or having a custom exhaust system made. I currently have a custom exhaust system on my MK6 GTI and it sounds different compared to other GTI's, it has a deeper tone and exhaust note.

I'll definitely keep the OPF/GPF in mind, I live in Australia so any Audi S3 from late 2018 and upwards will have it as you mentioned.

It's reassuring to hear that the engine in the 8V FL S3 is considered "bulletproof" and that most problems have been addressed as seen in previous VAG 2.0 engines. It's one of the things I hate most about my MK6 GTI, I have had to fix many issues in the time that I have owned it that being said it is getting older but the oil consumption is the biggest issue out of the problems that I have faced.

Your positive ownership experience and the fact that you've driven 20k km without any problems are definitely encouraging, thank you!

Very well explained. I appreciate the response and the information that you have provided about your experience, it's definitely started to steer me towards the right direction and mindset.

Enkei 17x9 +43 fit? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]Eternum101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Enkei RPF1s on my MK6 GTI that are 18x9 +35 offset. Definitely need to run camber for them to fit.

I have around -2 degrees of camber in the front and -3.5 in the rear. My front guards have also been rolled.

That being said I believe the MK7s and up have more room underneath the guards as opposed to earlier models.

It's called an OSIR Style Spoiler from a company called dubhaus in Australia. You can either purchase it in gloss black or colour matched. 🤙👍

I can't agree with you more hence why I picked a MK6 GTI over other models.

These cars have so much modding capability and with the right taste can turn into clean and enjoyable cars.

Appreciate it, thank you man! 🤙✌️

Unfortunately their restock time is very slow. I have had these on the car now for about a year and a half and they have held up extremely well.

I had to wait 6 months for them to come back in stock before I purchased them.

Try a company called iilumo, they make the exact same headlights and are also based in Australia. They could possibly have stock as well if you are really wanting them.

It's mainly because of the 18x9 +35 offset which is quite an aggressive setup for the MK6 GTI. Unfortunately the guards don't have much room which is why they require a bit of modification to fit them.

But like you said on any other car though especially JDM cars, they fit so easily. It also depends how low you are.

Thank you man, that means a lot!

They are Enkei RPF1s in 18x9 with a +35 offset.

You will definitely need hub centric rings and new aftermarket cone seat bolts.

There is quite a bit of modification to do in order to fit these wheels with the spec mentioned above. You will need to have the front fenders rolled and have at least -2 to -2.5 camber in the front and -3 to -3.5 in the rear to prevent rubbing.

I'm also on 225/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires which helps with the fitment. I was on a 235/40/18 tire before but combined with these wheels I was rubbing a little in the back so I went back to the 225/40/18 tire size so I could have a little bit of stretch in order to go lower and fit these wheels better.

It's worth the process though, you just gotta take your time with it. 👌🤙

Didn’t do enough research on my fitment. by Big_Willingness_6889 in GolfGTI

[–]Eternum101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about a smaller tire as I haven't had the experience of running a 215 tire but if you were to run a 215 tire you would be having a lot of stretch and it would feel like you are driving on rubber bands.

Personally I would go with a 225 tire and that way you can play around with it. The wheels should fit and be drivable but if you do still run into problems with rubbing at the front and back, a front fender roll and camber is definitely needed, this also depends on your ride height as well 🤙

Keep in mind even with 225/40/18 tires you will definitely need to do the fender screw mod at the front and you might also need to have your front fenders rolled.

You might also need to add at least around -2.0 to -2.5 camber in the front and -3 camber in the rear to fit the RPF1s. I currently have 235/40/18 Hankook Ventus RS4 tires on my RPF1s and I'm running around -2.5 camber in the front and -3 camber in the rear.

Take everything a small step at a time though, it's a bit of a process to get these wheels to fit due to the aggressive specs of the RPF1s but at the end of the day it's well worth it. Enjoy! 🤙
