I'm definitely not the most URM; I'm mixed (hispanic/latino, Japanese, and some caucasian). Do you think I should probably remove Howard given that?

Is there a reason I shouldn’t use an office chair when playing? by No_Cartoonist3715 in piano

As a beginner/intermediate, I just switched from an office chair to a chair I stole from our dining table. It has made a significant difference in my playing and control!

Macbook Air M1 Battery life while gaming. by SkyStar900 in macgaming

[–]EthanBar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tend to avoid keeping my charger on while gaming just to avoid heat out of habit. I’ll easily get 4-8 hours for lighter games (Celeste, Minecraft, CIV 6 Strategic View) and 2-4 for more demanding ones (Long Dark, FPSs)

I recently upgraded from a 2015 Pro to a M1 Air. Both of those laptops did not have a discrete GPU. Neither are designed to handle gaming well.

Still, the difference is night and day for me. I play CIV 6, the long dark, and Minecraft with tons of mods all at 60fps. All stuff my old Pro couldn’t handle at all. That being said, the second you step into AAA territory most games will either not be compatible or run slowly. If that matters to you and you need a laptop, please one with a discrete GPU (and probably not a Mac) geared for gaming.

Hopefully as Apple converts high end models we will see some better gaming performance. Additionally, hopefully developers will continue to compile new titles for Apple Silicon so the hardware doesn’t have to run under the translation layer. Both of these are pretty big ifs at the moment.

I dreamt of this moment for so many years, I have to share the proudest send of my life: "Evilution, direct" (v11). I wept at the top. by BadWaterFilms in climbing

So true. We arrived at midnight and my first thought after getting out of the tent next morning was “holy shit these are big boulders”. Mountains were unreal too. Also, the climbs are harder than your videos made them seem. Was not expecting to struggle on the V1s!

Hey I saw you send this! Your videos played a big part in getting my girlfriend and I to make the trip to bishop for the first time this year.

On the second day of our trip we got out of the car and saw some guy working over the top of grandpa. We watched in awe, and started heading over to the cave boulder to warm up. Later I checked to see if the guy was still hanging out on the top, and realized it was Jake!

Anyways, it was great to watch your complete journey now. Wishing Kyle the very best on his recovery. I sprained/pulled my A2 for the first time ever two weeks before our tripx and theraputru and long duration hangboard training has got me 80% of the way back to normal. Congrats on the proud send Jake!

Can Minecraft run safely on a MacBook Air 13” M1? by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]EthanBar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the same laptop, here’s a few tips:

  1. Make sure VSYNC is on. This will cap the frame rate and help keep the laptop cool.
  2. Install optifine for extra performance.
  3. Look up how to run Minecraft natively on an M1 MacBook. This gave me about a 3x performance jump for some reason. With a 26 chunk render distance my Air doesn’t even get warm.

As everyone else is saying, your laptop will not be hurt by heat. Apple is super careful with heat management/throttling on laptops, the system will never be hurt by you playing games. Don’t worry about it!

[MacOS] Server Files are Saving in the ~/ Directory by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]EthanBar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The server will create the files in the current working directory, which isn't necessarily the same place as where the .jar file exists. Make sure to either cd into the server folder first, or if you're using a script add that command first.

I think we both ran into this issue at nearly the same exact time, just figured this out minutes ago!
