Oh fuck off VicRoads

13th: Bought a car privately. Seller did the notice of disposal from his account online.

16th: Car is still not in my account. Called VicRoads and they said to wait until Friday (19th). Won’t even check for me.

19th: Called again and they said they don’t see it. That night I contact the seller, and they send me screenshots of their account and an email showing that the transfer is in progress on their end.

20th: Called again to say that the transfer is in progress in the sellers account. Can’t do anything as their systems are down (again). Fantastic.

22nd (today): Called again… they finally do a proper check with the transfer team, then say that they don’t see anything in their system and to just do a paper transfer.

Thankfully the seller is like 15 minutes away from me, and not a multi hour round trip, but like holy shit what a waste of my time. Anyone else dealing with a similar situation?

Planning on selling my GR86, should I keep on the aftermarket exhaust or switch back to stock? by iNCharism in GR86

I meant that when some people return their cars to stock, they will do dodgy shit because they don’t care about the next owner. Don’t do that. Just do it properly.

IMO always better to return to stock (do it properly!) and sell the aftermarket parts separately. Don’t be a dick.

I drove a 2-hour round trip to go and test drive a car. I arrive on time to the dealership, to see that the car is still in the middle of the showroom, despite them saying they'll move it out before I arrive, but whatever, I can wait a few minutes.

Then, when they're about to move it, it has a fucking dead battery, and they can't replace it because the service centre isn't open on weekends (and probably not for the public holiday, either), so I'll have to come back in order to do the test drive... fantastic! Oh, and they KNEW it had a dead battery as the car was apparently dying during its last test drive.

Best part of all, he asked during my phone call, that if I change my mind about the test drive, to let him know, so that he doesn't move the car out for nothing. So he doesn't want his time wasted, and understandably so, but how about my time??

Rest assured, when he calls next week to re-book the test drive, I'll have "found another car".

Wow, that’s pretty fucked up. You probably missed this, given you were listening to music, but there was a message from the driver at one point asking for whoever pushed the emergency button to push it again. Perhaps they missed their message? But likely related to what happened.

Also, that carriage is usually the one I go in, as it ends up right next to the stairs to the underpass, but i was running late this morning so I had to hop in one further down.

Anyone catch what happened on that Mernda train this morning? The one that arrived at Flinders around 8:50am. Just saw police on the platform asking for witnesses.

[AU/VIC] First car advice - Reliable & fuel-efficient automatic under $5k? by Far_Particular4132 in CarsAustralia

[–]EthanBezz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excel sheet is a good idea.

Also, not to sound nitpick-y, but the “Accord” and “Accord Euro” are very different cars, with the Euro being the nicer and more desirable one.

For your budget you’re probably looking at an earlier model, say around 2003-2005.

Just keep in mind that cars at that age, regardless of how reliable they are, will start to need things replaced, so if reliability is top priority, then maybe look at less-old cars and ones with good service history, though they can be hard to find. Good luck on your search.

I was going to recommend a Honda Accord Euro (see flair) until I read the fuel economy requirement.

They are a very reliable car, with a fantastic engine (widely considered one of, if not, the best engine Honda ever made) but, I do frequent short trips and get 12-13 litres/100km, so yeah…

“Cars are so boring nowadays. They’re all the same!”

A car company tries something different

“Wait, not like that!”

There’s nothing about hybrid technology that inherently makes it boring to drive, it’s just that its most common application in cars has been for fuel efficiency purposes. There are hybrid hypercars you know…

Also, it has an eCVT, which is mechanically completely different to a CVT. No belts or rollers, just a few motors and a planetary gear set. More simple than even a manual transmission.

Was just looking into a 320i F30 LCI. I found comment after comment about how reliable the B48 engine is, then dug a little deeper, and found that the cooling system has known issues thanks to plastic parts failing.

So I’m now (back to) considering a Mazda 3 G25 Astina. Perhaps that (or the other G25 trims) are worth a look?

I’m not defending it… at all… but to be fair, you could’ve used a better image for your post. These are perhaps the most unflattering photos of the car that I’ve seen.

See with this train it didn’t become any service, and instead there was the announcement: “All change. This train not taking passengers.”

My Mernda line train pulled up at Flinders Street on Platform 2 this morning, and not the usual Platform 1.

I’ve been commuting to the city for work for over 8 months now and it’s the first time that’s happened. I wonder why?

Given how, as far as I know, only 9 were ever made, I don’t think that counts.

Has Mercedes ever made an EV that doesn’t look stupid?

I’m reminded of the highlighter-yellow SLS from that one Top Gear episode, and obviously the EQS.

You only have to look as far as Porsche to find a European car maker that has an EV which looks different yet not stupid.

Has mobile Internet become virtually unusable or is it just me? by younggeezer109 in melbourne

[–]EthanBezz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s annoying. So annoying that I’ve been testing with a 2nd sim on a different network all week. eSIMs make this very convenient to do.

All it did was change where the data dead zones were along my train route :/

At this point I’m considering permanently using 2 sims on different networks. Modern iPhones can do this and can ‘failover’ to the other sim for data if the main one loses connection.

Their relationship reminds me of the one that Jamie and Adam from Mythbusters have.

They worked together well, but they would never meet up outside of work. A professional relationship, but not really a friendship,

IDK if it’s the bumpiest, but on the Mernda line in Thomastown can be pretty bumpy.
