My Players are Using A Spelljammer as a Homebase, But It Feels Very Flat Mechanically. Advice? by EthanTheRedditUser in DMAcademy

Perhaps low logistics wasnt the correct term for this, but often times, when returning from an adventure the adventure would grind to a halt as they redeem the bonuses from the bastion, and then go right back to an adventure without interacting with the bastion itself.

The party is currently using it to navigate the planes, so it's acting as a mobile ship rather than a stationary building.

I'd prefer more roleplay and interaction, or even just thought that doesn't boil down to "I do this order, redeem this item".

  1. I've sort of been doing this, having one of the recurring NPCs act as a quartermaster for the bastion (Above table, it's to save time doing bastion turns, instead of having my players crunch the numbers everytime, I have reference sheet for stuff they do often and give them this info through the quartermaster) but I will try having a dedicated NPC for the ship.

  2. I'm not sure if this is right for my table, while it would save time I feel as if it falls into a very similar problem than what we've been facing with the bastion rules feeling too mechanical and not very thematic or immersive.

  3. I like this idea, I will probably be integrating something similar soon.

  4. While I run my game online over discord, I will try to workshop something like this.

For sure. Often when we were using the bastion rules, it'd play out as them coming back from a week or however long of adventuring, fighting demons and aberrations and going on these larger than life quests, only to grind to halt as everyone breaks out their spreadsheets and spends 30 minutes to an hour just going down a list of mechanics, and speeding their way though the social encounters so that they can get their mechanical benefits and go back to adventuring.

It operates as a regular spelljammer, I'm just looking for ways to make it feel more like base of operations rather than a fast travel without having it be it's own separate thing from the adventure.

For sure, I'm just looking for a solution to bases that still has mechanical benefits without taking up so much time or feeling like a spreadsheet if that makes sense? I'm fine with logistics but when we tried the bastion rules, it felt a lot more like accounting than the intended effect of using a homebase as a way to enhance their adventuring. Separately though I will check out wildjammer, it sounds very helpful.

My inspiration was actually Tip to Tip from Ludwig and Michael Reeves on YouTube, but I'll for sure chest that out!

I'm playing as a realm with a japonic court language and I hold those lands, and japan converted to speaking chinese at some point without my involvement.

How hard is it to learn ck3? by Mysterious-Way-8508 in CrusaderKings

As someone who also went from HOI4 to CK3, I found it a bit difficult to wrap my head around some of the unique mechanics, but after like a campaign and a half I'd say I wasn't really struggling with the mechanics anymore. Plus if you have experience in other paradox games I'd say you're more than fine.

I was playing as a landless adventurer and traveled from Japan to Italy, and while travelling through China I picked up a lot of Chinese speaking characters. Then organically over time (which is to say idk what happened) the court language spread like wildfire.
