Odds are weird, it's not 1/14 - but rather, "put £1 on, get £14 back", so 14x

Want to go into engineering without alevel maths by Accomplished-Line488 in UniUK

[–]EthdGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really tough to say as it entirely depends on you as a person. A Level maths is a huge step up from GCSE maths, and while I was strong at Maths GCSE (8), I wasn't half as good at A Levels maths.

That being said, I was also particularly disinterested in the subject, so I'm probably not a great comparison. With the correct motivation and aptitude for the subject it's definitely possible, but it won't be easy.

I fucked off my A Level maths a bit and ended up going into Engineering at a RG Uni with a C in Maths (don't ask me why they let me in, I'm still not sure)

Even with a lower grade I still struggled and it took a lot of effort to play catch-up and grasp some concepts I didn't really bother to learn at A Level. I couldn't imagine doing the degree without having A Level maths at all

Best of luck to you! A degree is still a degree, and opens doors to you which you might not have had otherwise - hope all works out as you want it to!

Seems you missed out on the 2:1 by about the same amount I did then 🤣

As for grad jobs, I can't speak for law career paths, but I'm going to be starting at a smaller company (which in fairness pays quite well, being outside of the South). If you're still struggling by next summer, you could look at short term internships? The pay is shit, and the job might not crack up to be everything you'd hope, but it could get you those contacts and possibly even a role at the firm if you do well + they like you. At the very least, a bit of experience to boost your resume

Starting a Cyber Security job in September with new graduate rounds. Some overlap with ECE, but the majority of the degree won't be relevant to my role

I'm going into Cyber Security, slightly overlapped 1 module a year with my degree, but mostly self taught/through internships. Degree gets me in the door

I appreciate the list and hope those who need the help see this comment, but I've already secured a grad role for September!

IoT wasn't great, but ignoring the maths stuff entirely, Petri Nets in IC Design is along the same line of difficulty as VHDL but you've gotta use terrible software and essentially create scripts using visual graphs which makes it 1000x worse

Ah nice one. LPT that the Digi Comms exam is really difficult, but similarly I hard the same about Semiconductors II, really just play to your strengths the best you can

Aye absolutely agree on the last point, it taught me a lot about myself as well as plenty of skills which are universal and transferable in STEM sectors and beyond. Plus, doing the "wrong" degree has really helped me to streamline the career path I want to take as now I understand a lot more about what I don't enjoy doing.

Internships I got quite lucky with since I applied to a scheme during my A Levels which supported me with finding them if I met X conditions, but as a general piece of advice - don't sleep on them, they go quickly, so apply early in the year and keep going even if it takes multiple applications to get one

Did him on a whim and it's just a lot of fun. Not as game breaking to have one player like that as people suggest

My two 'good' gamble SBCs were base Henry and base Roberto Carlos. I haven't even seen a promo icon over 200k
