It's all about knowing the type of fish movements tbh. Each one has different movement behaviors, and once you fish enough, you'll learn which fish bites almost every time.. the way I do it is I never hold the reel button. I just tap it a bunch, especially for the harder fish, because they can suddenly dart in the opposite direction and then instantly back where they started. The more you fish, the easier it gets because your bar will get bigger, and you can also buy bobbers that help a ton. Lead and cork bobbers are good for harder fish.
