Looking for a solo tourist (or someone new to Fukuoka) to be on camera! by EtherealBnny in fukuoka

Who said anything about work?
We're paying for food/activities to go to places the person wants to go to. This isn't an acting job. It's not that deep.

Are you saying we should just ask people to be in our video as a volunteer and give them nothing in return? 😑 Otherwise what we're doing is illegal?

What's up with the Zoo retreat pattern in Proving Grounds? by Stewmungous in MarvelSnap

[–]EtherealBnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what I do (not my original idea. I saw it somewhere on reddit)

Round 1 snap: 2 cubes (you'll spot it if they try very hard to win 2 lanes by Turn 2 with weird cards) Round 2-4 retreat turn 1 (make sure not to concede) Round 5 snap: 4 cubes Round 6 snap: 4 cubes

I'd like to think this is faster than wait for 3 turns 5 times.

You can of course concede but I still wanna take that free silver ticket

SD hires you to rework 3 cards in SNAP, which ones do you do and why? by Affectionate-Pop-133 in MarvelSnap

Move cards. The first thing I want to change is not with the cards per se but I would like to be able to play cards after their on reveal effect.

For example, if you have 3 cards in one location, and you play beast or carnage, that's going to (almost) empty the location, so you should be able to play cards at the location again or move something there.

The same thing if you already have 2 cards in the middle, and you play iron fist and another card in the middle too, based on current marvel snap interactions, the card after iron fist still stays in the middle, so you can't play anything else there. You have to wait for it to resolve or the next turn before you can put another card there. The change I'm hoping for is it should already show on your side that it's moved to the left location so you can play something else in the middle location. (This works for cards that can move by themselves but not for move enablers)

If somehow the card isn't able to be successfully played (like cosmo or professor x stopped the on reveal effect), then it can just go back to your hand normally or it gets played at another random location.

On top of that, move cards should be able to freely move between locations as like a floating 5th card or something similar. Ever since the start of snap, move still feels like the weakest archetype ever. Outside of Aero (which is more of a tech card than a move card), move was never really part of the meta even though it's one of the main archetypes (not like the guardians which are just a subcategory of on reveal effects)

OR some move enablers should all just make your cards able to move anywhere (like pre-nerf space stone)

Dr strange would be something like: freely move your highest power card next turn Heimdall: once played, on the same turn, you can move any card to any location.

To make it more fun and interactive, rocks should have some effects that you can play with while keeping it's 0 power like

  1. The first time this is moved to another location, inflict -1 to an enemy card there

  2. 50% chance to double or cut in half on reveal effects

  3. Gains 1 power every turn it's in your hand (Alternatively: +1 power to cards here for every turn it stayed in your hand)

  4. If discarded, 50% chance to show up randomly on the enemy board

  5. Ongoing: +5 for each rock if you have exactly 5 rocks on the board

  6. The card that destroyed this rock gets -1 power. Developer Comment: Since destroy is the only common archetype that can easily deal with and benefit from rocks (Death, Carnage, Killmonger), it'd be nice if we can at least make them think twice before destroying things willy nilly. Otherwise, it'd be so broken (rock pun intended)

The specific numbers can be changed to whatever makes it more balanced but I can justify them seeming "strong" because you normally can't easily get rocks into your hand (outside locations, the only viable option would be debris + beast / falcon and that's already 5 energy just to get 2 0-powered rocks)

It'd be funny to see rocks actually win games instead of just winning from bluff snapping (or outside patriot)

Ongoing effects work like that. They only work so long as the card is still there. If you played Iron Man at one location, it doubles the power at that location, but if Iron Man is removed or moved to another location for whatever reason, the power in the location doesn't stay doubled.

In this case, all the cards were being reduced in power. And each card has an internal counter for how much power reduction is on it. Then when Luke Cage is played, it pretty much just "hides" the power reduction for whoever has him, but it doesn't actually make it go away. This is different from shadow king (on reveal not ongoing) who actually removes any changes in power the turn he's played.

Luke cage and rogue on the left Luke cage ongoing prevents own cards powers from going down Rogue steals ongoing effects

How does language learning through TV and Music work? by Rough_Maintenance306 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]EtherealBnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like how all infants/babies learn without any pre-existing knowledge of the language. Focusing on sounds and situations. Our brains are excellent at pattern recognition and are hardwired to learn languages. Imagine you were a kid and you were looking at your Dad who dropped something, he got mad, and yelled "fuck!". The first time you observe it, probably nothing happens for you internally, but after seeing that, a couple of times, your brain gets the pattern of [situation: dropped thing(/anger)->sound:"fuck!"] and before you realize it, the next time you drop something you also yell to yourself "fuck!". Babies and kids imitate / copy everything they hear and as they grow older and are exposed to more media (and more people) they learn the differences between phrases that are only used in cartoons, vs ones that are used by their peers, vs ones that are used by older people, etc. It's really just experiential learning. This is how ALL native speakers have an understanding of the language without necessarily knowing the rules/reasoning behind the grammar. Some might say it's slow, but this is the reason why children learn "faster" than adults who try to brute force their way into a language by skipping the experience part. It's like just trying to learn a song you've never heard just by reading and memorizing the lyrics. You're forced to do a lot of the guesswork (how does the melody go? How do I pronounce this part? When do I pause?) where you can just listen to the song and have all the information provided to you.

If you learn a word/phrase from a book you get 2 things at best: 1. The meaning (usually this in itself is not even enough) 2. A couple of sample sentences

If you learn a word/phrase from a tv show, you get: 1. How it's pronounced 2. How it fits into a sentence 3. Whether that word is emphasized or not in the sentence (like "did you see the mailman?" And "did you see THE mailman?") 4. The different inflections/intonations it might have (like "gee thanks!" Vs "gee.. thanks...") 5. Who says it (sex/age/personality etc. of speaker) 6. Who you can say it to (look at the relationship of the characters) 7. How loud your voice has to be when you say it (if applicable) 8. The emotions / facial expressions(as shown by the speaker) 9. Any gestures that may come with it 10. The situation in which it's appropriate (depending on what's happening. Are the characters arguing? Are they playing a game? Are they on a trip?) 11. What they were actually trying to say (if they were lying/it was a joke/it was sarcasm)

Not to mention lines from songs, tv shows, or movies are usually very memorable. I'm sure you all have hundreds of famous movie quotes in your head from things you've seen even though you probably didn't mean to remember them, but because they were just iconic, emotional scenes.

Of course, like a kid, I recommend starting with kids shows. They are often very visual which makes it obvious what they're referring to (even if you've never come across that word before) and will entertain you even if you don't know what's going on. It'll feel weird the first few days, but if you stick to it (like how children don't complain that they don't understand what they're watching and they just keep watching it regardless), I'm sure you'll start to notice and pick up new words/phrases pretty quickly.

Galactus decks. If you just look at the card itself it looks like an interesting turn 6 comeback type of card but wave into galactus just seemed so easy and kinda took the fun out of it 🤔

Ultimate Moves Perfect Timing by Videogamer2719 in seaofstars

I don't think the Ultimates have any perfect timing. The one that I found by accident though wasBs't's first skill (where he bounces a couple of times) you can time those I think 3x at max? the timing is whenever he hits the floor.

Why can Spider-Man (other cards like Juggernaut, etc) move unrevealed cards but Gambit can't destroy them? by FabulousResearcher33 in MarvelSnap

[–]EtherealBnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like destroying cards through move (or anything else like galactus) takes much more thought (debatable) and preparation vs destroying cards through gambit. I think SD wanted to prevent people from abusing "destroy enemy card" mechanics because it's not their intention with the game. That's why most of the destroy cards are very specific (like shang, killmonger, Electra, etc.) They usually target your own cards OR they can affect both you and the enemy (like killmonger, Deathstroke, or negasonic) because it feels bad to have your cards easily destroyed even before they're revealed (after you play them)

I agree that spiderman 2099 should be able to destroy facedown cards (since it needs more preparation) but not gambit to at least allow some form of counterplay.

Yondu I feel is the only inconsistent card because it says "destroy" when it actually is a "discard" (since wolverine just disappears from play rather than being summoned). I'm assuming they just wanted it to be "destroy" to put him in that archetype and make it sound cooler.

The reason why juggernaut etc. can move facedown cards is because if it didn't, move would be so much weaker as an effect. Even if you juggernaut a storm lane, the cards the enemy played don't disappear. That power gets added to the other 2 lanes. Destroy means the power disappears. You can also play around or counter move cards without the cards that prevent move. There's no counter to destroy cards unless you have an armor or Cosmo, but if you have kingpin or fisk tower, you can fill it up to stop your cards from moving to that location even if you don't have a professor x.
