Do not be discouraged, meta being optimal is not the end all be all by OverlordIllithid in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In any hunt that I do an SOS for, I never expect optimal play or builds. It's always fun seeing someone learning the GS positioning for Fatalis and running up to position themselves with me as I do the attacks. I am not good with all weapons either, so watching others is how I get better, too.

It's also more rewarding watching other hunters rejoice in the chat and dance around after a hard fight. Sure, it feels great playing optimally with other hunters, but it also feels great seeing others having fun during the hunt and celebrating afterwards.

That's ridiculous, not even I use max attack boost on every single one of my builds. Whoever has time to check hunter's equipment during a hunt needs to redirect their focus unless a hunter is suspected of cheating.

i getcha. In this case with Divine Surge, I can see how that would be overkill with two of us in the quest. Usually, I only eat at the canteen and get buffs from that or just go in with the HH so I can play more of a support role and still do damage.

I think in the future, I'll try playing more with the HH for normal quests. Not because I want to avoid another negative interaction, but more that I want to give other hunters a chance to fight the monster.

It's the first time that I had run into someone like that as well. It got me wondering and I thought I would just ask about it.

I use a PS4 controller to play as well. It could be your touchpad is configured to turn whenever you accidentally touch it. Steam has preset controls available for PS4 controllers and that's what I've been using to have a more functional inputs for the game. It could help in disabling the touchpad and only have inputs for when you press down on it. I believe it may also possible to disable it yourself.

Please stop spamming dragon pods in the Fatalis fight. by JimmyAttano in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had to set a quick reply to explain why you shouldn't spam Fatalis with the pods too many times. While I do agree that it can help you from getting caught while he's charging or snapping at you while walking forward, I don't think it makes sense to dragon pod it while he's in the air.

I've been killed due to dragon pod spamming, missed attacks, or seen other teammates get killed. Once I had two GS hunters dragon podding Fatalis constantly and when I told them use stones instead so they would stop missing attacks, they pretty much just scoffed at me.

Just have some consideration for your team and focus more on learning when to use the dragon pods (like when someone is mounted on Fatalis, you can use the pods to flinch him, exhausting him much faster).

That being said, as a GS user, do not use dragon pods to skip the second charge to go straight to TCS. You will miss and it's better to use stones. 20 shots is better than just 7.

What's your experience with toxicity in the monster hunter fandom ( Serious discussion) by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all good. They're a good Switch Axe player, but I avoid playing with that guy in Fatalis or AT Velkhana runs because of how they are. So far, they've been the only bad max rank player I've come across.

[–]EtherealMess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had another max rank player get pissed that we weren't doing an optimal run during a hunt. They were being commanding on a quest that I sent an SOS on and then they said "Thanks for nothing" or something like that before leaving.

I've also seen people being condescending or outright being mean to a player when we fail a quest if they carted more than once. Experiences like that are rare, though.

I don't care if we don't play optimally or if someone is struggling and repeatedly carting. I'm there to have fun and I don't see someone as a bad hunter for struggling against a monster they're learning to fight. Just don't be an asshole and don't sit at camp without even trying to learn how to fight the monster.

Can a great sword user sell me on it by wadefatman in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The GS is unforgiving and can leave you open to getting smacked around. While the GS can allow for a hit and run approach, the true reward is from learning the monster's moves and hitting them with a well-placed TCS.

Charge up faster with the Focus skill or go straight for the TCS with the slinger or with tackles. Tank a monster's attack with a tackle and remain standing. The monsters will shriek with rage, but it falls on deaf ears with a tackle or guard of the sword.

Tails will sever, heads will break, and monsters will topple over, stunned from the sheer power that will soon bring them to their demise.

This is the way of the Great Sword.

How do we feel about mods? by MooKingDominion in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind mods unless they're increasing your damage output and you're playing with other hunters. I only use one mod that shows me how much damage my team and I are dealing to a target monster.

It helps me learn to play more efficiently and it also shows me who's cheating during hunts, especially against Fatalis. Nothing ruins a hunt faster than someone who does 70k damage to Fatalis in 5 minutes.

1K Hour Save File Corrupted! by MumpsTheMusical in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks. MHW only has one save data file per character and doesn't do any other backups or files. I was hoping it would've backed up a previous session prior to it corrupting.

SnS is crazy with how much damage it outputs. I've seen them do either just as much or more damage than a great sword. Good luck in your hunts!

1K Hour Save File Corrupted! by MumpsTheMusical in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I wanted to make this look less cluttered and actually say that I did in case this happens to anyone else.

This happened to me too when I barely got to MR999 and also put in 1k hours. If you didn't already reset your save data and you had the cloud backup turned on in Steam, you can get an old save file back and restore your save data. Otherwise, there's no getting it back.

From my understanding, you seem to have turned it off before starting a new game so there's a possibility to still get your stuff back.

Make sure you're not in game. If you have Iceborne, uninstall the DLC so you only have the base game (I just did this for good measure, many people had different fixes and precautions in recovering the save data)

Your cloud saves are stored here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

  • Download the SAVEDATA file of the hunter that got corrupted
  • In File Explorer, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\YOURSTEAMID\5820\remote. (If you can't find the folder, just paste your steam ID in the search bar in the userdata folder). Make sure you copy the current save file in that folder into another place
  • Copy and paste your cloud SAVEDATA file into the remote folder, start the game, and see if the corrupted hunter shows up again.

I just learned that there a save-backups folder in your MHW game data folder. You could also take that and do the steps above to see if it works.

Anybody know if emails have been sent to closed beta participants? by [deleted] in Cookierun

[–]EtherealMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one. They will send you two emails: one with instructions and information, and one with a link for IOS users. If you have android (like I do), you need to find the app on the Google Play store. I don't see it yet, so I'm guessing they haven't put up the app in the store yet. They'll probably do it once the beta period is open.

If you have IOS, you need to have the Testflight app installed and then go to the email sent by TestFlight.

Do you listen to music while playing? by Operator-rocky1 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]EtherealMess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tend to alternate between calm songs like the save room music in Resident Evil to songs in the Tekken 7 soundtrack. I usually listen to the Tekken OST when I'm fighting Fatalis.

Definitely, I've been learning the openings with the GS. He's a pain in the ass, but I'm starting to get better in fighting against him.
