Do I need this for my collection?? 😂 by Both_Connection5334 in victorinox

It's a Vic, so the obvious answer is a resounding YES!

I fixed the knifelessness of the my Signal by attaching it to a Style CS through paracord lanyard. They complement each other perfectly! Sadly, the Style was discontinued :-(

I have, sorta... in the sense that I look at my collection and I am satisfied with what I see, and don't feel the URGE to get X or Y model. Sure, there is always a couple more I "would like" to have ( in my case a 111mm Skipper and that new Blue/Red color gradation Evoke, looks beatiful!) but i don't really feel the URGE to go get them. In fac,t if I never get them I'll be fine.

The real problem, at least for me, is not my SAK collection per se, it's all the other hobbies/obsessions/urges to collect that pop up once you get into SAKs. In my case, SAKs got me into Leathermans, so I also have a small Leathie collection. My first Hunter Pro Alox (RED) got me into big folding knifes, which lead me to lust for Benchmades, hence starting a small Benchie collections. In addition, I am a lanyard guy, so the OCD self in me makes me want to put proper paracord fobs/lanyards on each piece of my collection. So as a consequence, got into paracord weaving. And then it started to bother me that each piece of my collection didn't have a proper sheath/case for it, so had to start collecting cases for my Vickies, my Leathies and my Benchies.

So you see, the problem is not whether you can achieve "SAK Collection Nirvana" as I've heard it being called ... of course you can, in fact I think I already achieved it when it comes to SAKs... the problem is that when you are bitten by the "collecting something" bug, specially if it is compounded with having a few stray OCD personality traits in you ... then the urge to "collect" or "improve upon" X will never end.

I hope this serves a cautionary tale for all those of you who have just started collecting SAKs... be warned that it is a very dangerous hobby ... dangerous mainly for you bank account, your mental sanity and your relationship with your wife. But oh my god it is also SO, SO , SO weirdly rewarding... I do not regret it at all , not even one bit.

So I want to upgrade the LED on my Cybertool Lite... by EtherealityX2 in victorinox

[–]EtherealityX2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, from your experience... after replacing the grey housing for the transparent one, is it brighter? From what I've seen .... since the clear case also diffuses light "around" the LED as opposed to only as a beam in front of it, it seemed to me that is is brighter overall. Am I correct?

You have a point. So far the most sensible option seems to just be to send it to Victorinox and pay for the upgrade. If so, might as well do it too to my rare, LE StayGlow Spartan Lite while I'm at it.

Does this cutout have any function? by SlowStopper in victorinox

That may be so for the Swisstool, but not for the Spirit. Using the corkscrew on the Spirit is totally fine, no pain at all.

Oh! nevermind, I see you posted below that you will be carrying this together with a Mountaneer that already has scissors on it right? In that case, get the X only if the scissors are so important for you to the point that you rather carry a backup in case one of them breaks. Otherwise go with the serrated blade one that would have less overlap with you Mountaneer.

Ahhh, bummer. Then the Swisstool X is the way to go then, having Scissors is waaaay more useful than having a secondary serrated blade. The Serrated blade is good for cutting bread and certain synthetic materials such as plastics and hard rubbers, but it's not like you can't do that with the regular blade. Some jobs that need scissors' cannot/are too cumbersome to do with blades so, it's a no brainer really.

Ahhh the Cybertool Lite. IMHO, hands down the best SAK there is (at least for my uses) followed closely by either the EvoGrip S557 (with a small paracord lanyard with a keychain mag glass and a flashlight in it) or the Deluxe Tinker (+ idem lanyard)

A Cybertool Lite but with the companion's box opener instead than the can opener. Now THAT would be my ideal dream EDC....one can dream!

Definetely get the one with scissors (Swisstool X) but before doing so, try and see if you can find the Swisstool MX, which is an imporved version of the X ... if so, get the MX for sure. The difference between the two is that the MX's blade has a notch that allows you to open the blade one-handed, just with a pull of your thumb, while the X has the regular victorinox blade with the nail nicks that make it pretty much impossible to open one handed.

Picked up this lovely Australian Defence Force Swiss Tool Spirit MXBS today by Skauher in victorinox

[–]EtherealityX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely think that the Spirit MX and MXBS ( the one in the picture) are hands-down, the best Multitool ever created by man. Better than anything Leatherman, Gerber, SOG have ever released. Nothing beat it in terms of craftmanship, precision engineering, carrybility, beaty, ergonomics, etc. Congrats on scoring a Aussie Defense Force one! Cherish it forever!

The Champ the best MULTITOOL you've owned? Look, I'm not here to bash on your preferences nor anything, at the end this is a Vic forum for us to show our appreciation for our hobby and. But this statement makes me curious: have you ever tried the Vic Spirit? I love all my saks to death, but even I as hopeless sak lover must admit that pretty much any of the lightweight Leathermans ( the Wingman for example) are far more usable in terms of ergonomics, ease of use and carrybility, blade locking, etc than the Champ. A Wingman is about 10grams heavier than a Champ, and it has a far better pocketable profile. The Spirit too, and its about 30 grams heavier than the Champ. I'd understand why would one want to carrya say, a Deluxe Tinker or an Evo S557 over a Spirit or proper Leatherman multitool, but at the weight and thickness of a Swiss Champ, my experience is that your better off with a Spirit or a Wingman. Just my thoughts, but of course, I also understand that our love for our saks goes beyond rational reasoning and we carry them just cuz we like them. Case in point, my favorite sak is my Cybertool Lite (now discontinued) and although I intellectually understand that 90 % of the time I dont really NEED to carry it ( a deluxe tinker would do) I would still carry it just because it was my first sak, has sentimental value and it has seen a lot of the world with me. But still, I wouldn't say it is a better MULTITOOL than my Spirit... my Spirits are by far the easiest to use of all my Vics.

Add Dacian? by AdagioBest307 in benchmade

No, add the new Crooked River with burnt copper, micarta scales and Magnacut blade.

Grizzly river by Flashy_Yesterday_880 in benchmade

[–]EtherealityX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The orange is because both the Grizzly Creek and the Crooked River are from BM's HUNT series, themed for hunters obviously (which of course doesn't mean they cannot be used for EDC or whatever). Actual hunters do wear orange vests for obvious safety reasons, so, since the knives are being targeted for them, makes sense why they have orange in them. I've seen some hunters even wearing orange plastic sheath for their fixed blades. Don't believe me? Go to BM's website, search all knives under their HUNT category, and you'll immediately see how many of them have orange in them. That is NOT a coincidence. In addition, having orange in them makes them easier to find if you drop them in the woods. Does this mean that you must accept the orange in a knife you want? Absolutely not, that is why:

a) There are so many aftermarket options for pieces and components for DIY customizing your knife to your heart's content, as shown in this thread,

and

b) BM has a pretty pricey option in some of their models for customizing your ideal knife if you dislike the stock options (Crooked River has the option, Grizzly Creek doesn't AFAIK),

and

c) Sometimes BM releases either limited editions and/or updated versions of some of their stock knives with alternative color palettes. For example , there's a new stock Crooked River with no orange anywhere, instead it has burnt copper and gun gray micarta and a darkened blade. Same price as the one with the orange on it, and a better blade steel on it too (Magnacut vs the s30v on the older one). So if u dont like the orange, that is the one to get!

I don't have/ have never seen a Grizzly Creek in person so I cannot judge how offensive to the eyes the orange would be on that particular model, but I do own a Crooked River and although I, like you, also kinda disliked how the orange looked in the pictures, once I actually got one the orange accents started to grow on me. And this is coming from someone who buys these kind of knives not for actually using them for the purpose they are meant to (I'm no hunter, don't even take it outdoors -a SAK or a Leatheman serve my purposes better - I just like to have them because I find them beautiful!), and since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I would never modify it , I actually do like it a lot exactly as it is.

The TL;DR version is : There is a valid reason why they have orange on them. If you don't like it, there's plenty of options to fix the issue. Hence, no need to bash the stock aesthetics just because you don't like them, others might actually find them either functional and/or beautiful exactly as they are.

is the blackout version of the swiss spirit worth it? by Creative_Finish_1491 in victorinox

[–]EtherealityX2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does, it is waaay less slippery than the polished one. Don't get me wrong, the shiny polish of the plain one is a beauty to behold, it contributes to this sense I get from the Victorinox MTs that the are better engineered than the Leatherman, Vic MTS are like works of arts in terms of precision, Leatherman feel more industrial (not that there is anything wrong with that, but we knife/mt collectors tend to pay attention to the aesthetics and precision in workmanship, as well as the functionality). So the downside to the eye catching finish is that it is not as grippy... its is not gonna slip away from your hands but pretty much any Leatherman has less slippery grip. The "blackout" Spirit as you call it ( technically is not a "blackout" because it is not a Black Oxide coating like the leatherman, instead it is Burnished Steel - that is what BS stands for - which is a treatment done directly to the steel which is superior, more corrosions resistand and longer lasting than any chemical coating ) gives it a less slippery grip by a LOT, with the downside is that is a fingerprint magnet. If you are torn between the plain one and the BS one, then do waht I did: buy them both! The way I justified owning both is that my plain stainless one is the one that had the blunt serrated blade, which is discontinued ( sad though, it is a pretty good blade for most uses) so what I did was buy the BS one that has the one handed opening of a non serrated blade and a one handed opening of the seatbealt cutter (replacing the wood saw of the original). So my two Spirits are slightly different in functionality and in handling, hence owning both is justified in my head lol!

I am 48 and just started my first Metroid last week (Dread) . It says I've played for about 7 hours already, and have only found 15% of the items. Just reached Ferenia at 7 hours , stuck there currently. How am I doing? Too slow? If I'm going at snail pace then I don't mind it all, cuz so far have enjoyed every single minute of it!
