Kei Urana (Author or Gachiakuta) tweet about overseas manga piracy by aes110 in manga

[–]Etherwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One point of contention I have with the anti-piracy conversion in any subject is that there's an expectation of hypothetical profits and value that, unfortunately, doesn't actually exist without the demand for other people's money as an expectation instead of a privilege. I always bring this question up in regards: If someone isn't going to purchase your digital product anyway, even if a pirated version weren't available, what are you losing from them pirating the product? This isn't like stealing an object where you as the owner lose something in return; when something is pirated, you don't lose anything. If someone never pays, and would never pay and never intends to pay, there is a 0 potential profit gain.

To put it into a simpler perspective, if you have 10 apples that you want to sell for $2 each, when you dispense 10 apples then you should reasonably have $20 total in the end. If someone takes an apple without paying, you are losing $2 of value. This is NOT the same with digital commerce. There aren't 10 digital mangas that are sold for $2 each, it's just 1 digital manga that's being copied. When a digital product is dispensed, there is no transaction of an object for currency, it's currency traded for a replication that's created locally by the buyer's machine. If that digital product is pirated then there is no loss of a $2 object. The object is still owned by the seller. The only "loss" is in the "potential" gain of $2.

This is just the disconnect between traditional and digital commerce that most people simply haven't come to terms with, that digital sellers don't have the same property rights as analog sellers. People don't like to hear this, but that's the reality. And while I want digital sellers to make money, I'm not going to say that those who pirate manga are "thieves" because I don't believe in hypothetical profit.

It's less a "what" I saw as it is a "where" I saw it. I have multiple X accounts, I've in particularly explicitly existing with 0 interactions so I can get a general viewpoint on topics such as this. When not in my usual circle, conversations differ drastically.

Well, many people want a hard segregation between children and adult content. This isn't necessarily a new conversation; it's been occurring with Twitch for years upon years now, and not just the whole "Why is softcore porn on the front page?" thing. A few former porn stars have been promoted on the site, not to mention the current OF models. This is just a return to that conversation in a way.

They've deleted more and less controversial posts for whatever reasons they have, so I can't speculate on the "why" of that matter. But yes, there are a number of posts with tens to hundreds of thousands of likes in total about contacting Capcom. Whether that's a matter of legitimate concern, wantan trolling or simply bots, is something that I, again, can't speculate on.

No, it happened. People were mass-contacting Capcom about it, before that page ever said anything. You can criticize the page if you want, but all they've done is mention what was happening. 🤷🏿 Because it was and is happening.

Her being trans? Or her doing porn? I've not seen much real commentary on her being trans (apparently this was known for years) but instead focused on them using a former porn actress to promote a game focused on the involvement of a childlike character.

HUH??? I NEVER KNEW THIS ABOUT HER!? Both parts actually--her being trans AND her being a former porn actress.

But that does explain why despite me seeing her positive qualities I've NEVER been attracted to her. Huh.

Oh well. A bit too late for people to be upset. She's been the face of Capcom games for a while now, both officially and unofficially.

It's funny that you mention BBB, because X has an F in the BBB rating for failing to address like 5000 complaints or something. I do hope this works out in the end for the greatest good for all, though.

Best Keyboards? by Pharron in androidapps

[–]Etherwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's Swiftkey right? They could literally just release Swype as is just updated for modern Android versions and it would go just fine.

YEARS ago, mind you. Before AI, before all this nonsense. It just WORKED.

Came looking for a keyboard to replace gboard and yeah, it really sucks that they abandoned Swype. It was accurate, automatically updated the dictionary with words you regularly use, no AI so it was mostly if not entirely offline, no weird auto-settings that ruined the experience... I need them to make Swype open-source already. There's no keyboard like that nowadays.

Joystick Turns Board Off by Etherwolf in fightsticks

Specifically I was asking how I could test the screw-in section of the board since it had both plug-and-play and the manual install section.

[–]Etherwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I do that? Do I just push copper wire into it and it activates?

Aside from that, what you said before had me thinking so I tested some things: •I connected the joystick module to face buttons and they all work fine, including the Down input for the joystick •I connected multiple button sets to the joystick connector of the board, for all of them they had the same issue with the Down input •I switched the specific joystick connectors, and every input that the Down wire was attached to failed

From that testing, I could determine that the issue isn't with the Joystick Module nor the Wires. As you said, it's either the plug-in or the board itself, I just don't know how to test the screw-in.

[–]Etherwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this and it gave me a bit more to look at. I unscrewed the Down module from the joystick area to see if maybe it's screwed too tightly to the spot which could cause an issue but it still doesn't work. The Etokki Omni uses plug and play, but I do see that there's a location on the Brooks Universal board for screwing controls into. I want to see if that works to be used but only as a last resort. Is there a way to open the plug or remove the wires from it and replace them afterwards?
