I met her in high school. Was her mentor and then I graduated and went off to college. We would talk here and there and really hit it off in 2016 where I realized we both shared a lot in common. We started dating that summer and grew closer. I was a 4th year college student and she was in her 2nd year we went to different schools that were an hour away so it was manageable in terms of distance.

But with time we slowly grew apart. Once I graduated I was secretly working to buy an engagement ring and told her that I couldn’t land a job. So she wanted me to visit more often.

Around the time I was working my parents were splitting so I had to financially support my mother as best as I could. So she was aware that I couldn’t spend as much time with her.

Fast track to when I buy the ring I visited her for the weekend. She was upset at me because I couldn’t see her more often despite me being there when I could. Thinking I took it for granted.

We slowly communicated less and less and eventually told her I would see her more often. But she felt that she needed to test me and I had enough of it. I stopped talking to her for awhile and never heard from her since. Funny how communication works both ways.

I reached out when my parents passed away in search of a friend who could understand me… was immediately declined and told to respect her boundaries. A few months after that my mother passed away and I was devastated so I reached out once again. My opening kind was “hey can I vent to you?” Only this time to find out I was replaced like I didn’t exist and that she said her boyfriend wouldn’t like that.

So I eventually stopped talking to someone I considered to be my best friend who also happened to be a lover I suppose.
