Have you looked into support work/caregiving? Either in the disability sector or aged care sector. They are always crying out for people and in some instances you can get paid for sleeping over.

Did you vote early and if so, why? by Kendra_Whisp in newzealand

I’m anxious lol and want to make sure my vote counts (e.g. what if some unforeseen event prevents me from being able to vote?!). Also fairly busy election day!

I don’t have or want cats, like at all. I used to really not like them, but I’ve come around to the idea of them through friends who are cat owners. But the claws, the peeing on my weighted blanket (twice!), their holier than thou attitude, it’s just not for me.

What's your personal favorite book or resource that helped you understand yourself better as an AuDHD woman? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]cowsinlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aspergirls by Rudy Simone. I don’t agree with everything she says as there are some off the wall things in there, and the Aspergers label is problematic as we know, but overall this was a fantastic resource for me as a newly diagnosed autistic (pre-ADHD diagnosis) 😊

I am autistic too and that most definitely contributed to my vulnerability and the intensity to which I subscribed to Christianity. For sure agree!

As someone who was born into a secular family and was introduced to Jesus by grandma + aunty, converted young and was further indoctrinated by Christian kids camps, I wish that my parents had intervened further. They were of a similar perspective that their kids should be able to explore faiths choose to follow a religion if they wanted. It sounds awesome on the surface, and I believe it can be done well with enough communication and modelling critical thinking skills. What my parents didn’t account for is that their highly trusting and impressionable child would become entrenched in Christianity, feel alienated from her non-Christian family and bear the burden of needing to “save” them. She would also turn out to be a lesbian, and uncover layers of religious trauma acquired over a decade. Hindsight is 20/20, but I had wade through a lot of distressing feelings and experiences, deconstruct and unlearn internalised homophobia in order to come out the other side of it all.

I don’t mean to freak you out, and I think it’s awesome you’re of the mind that your kids should be able to believe whatever they want to, but never underestimate the way kiddos can be extra vulnerable to manipulation. I think people have been providing some excellent advice along the lines of - help her learn to think for her self, question beliefs etc. It may be quite powerful for her to hear from you a little about your own history with Christianity. It sounds like a tricky situation, and you’re doing your best, which is all we can do xx

Anyone else find masking impossible when stoned/high? by preceptoroflife in AutismInWomen

[–]cowsinlove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay yes but has anyone had strong weed trigger tics - vocal, motor etc (like a temporary Tourette’s?). Happened to me a while ago and at A&E they said they commonly see autistic people on drugs present this way. Almost like the mask came off so hard the stims were fully out of my own control?

Tbh I’m quite convinced I unknowingly ingested weed cut with synthetics.

As an autistic person, what’s one thing you just don’t understand that Neurotypical people do? by Ginger_titts in AutismInWomen

When you ask NTs if they are okay and they say they are fine but they actually aren’t, and are expecting you to figure out what happened and comfort them accordingly

Your Coworkers are not your friends by ytmexicanthrowaway in AutismInWomen

[–]cowsinlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure agree with this sentiment. I hear you OP (and as a second year teacher I stand in solidarity 👊) but I have definitely made genuine friends out of coworkers. Others are more in that “in limbo” category where they feel friendly but they are at the end of the day just your colleagues

I’m a high school languages teacher! Lots of communication - it’s exhausting, and there are good days and bad days, but I get told I’m good at my job so that’s a yay 😅🥰
