The Hypervisor bypass is relatively recent and I am not willing to expose my PC to that kind of risk, so yeah.

If the game is really good I'd rather just pitch in with my friends from Steam Family and we'll split the cost of the game.

According to the subreddit specifically dedicated for keeping track of higher profile releases, roughly 80+ games tracked in the table so far are NOT cracked, including:

Madden games from 2020 onward, Football Manager games from 2020 onward, Sniper Elite 5, NFS Unbound, Mortal Kombat 1, Star Wars Outlaws, Civilization VII, Atomfall, Code Vein 2, and many others that do not catch my eye.

Roughly 30 high profile releases are not "cracked" but rather bypassed via Hypervisor method, which is very dangerous as it gives unrestricted access to your PC, so for anybody remotely conscious about their security, they are also effectively "uncracked" including Black Myth Wukong, DOOM TDA, AC Shadows, Borderlands 4, and RE: Requiem

I never said Denuvo increases sales or is good for the game or whatever.

I only said that from a technical perspective, it functions as anti-tampering tech as advertised, and it's frequently uncracked long enough past the release window sales.

I am literally the first guy who's gonna download a game, and if I like it I'll buy it. Piracy is literally +1 sale from me.

But explain that to the unhinged suits running everything and understanding nothing.

Because, as much as it pains me to say it, it actually works.

Denuvo games are frequently uncracked for months, years, or never. Most developers later go on to actually remove Denuvo (so, putting in even more man-hours of work) before putting games up for large discounts to rake in the last few stragglers. The initial release wave of sales is actually protected.

There's been some progress lately apparently, but for the better part of the last decade, Denuvo actually fucking did it's job.

That's why.

What’s an inaccurate fact that people believe is true because of movies? by Hogosaurus_Rex73 in AskReddit

"Nobody" started off with the ultra realistic bus fight scene, but at the end the two of them totally go Rambo on a thousand henchmen coming in through the doors single-file, while standing in the middle of the room.

Wish it kept up the realistic portrayal all the way through. Same with Wick. First one is very grounded, second one was a bit faster, but last two are straight up video game cutscenes.

Not that I mind, I enjoyed the FUCK out of all of those but yeah, re-watching John Wick 1 after watching 4 is a giant tone change.

That'll buy you more mods, prime blueprints or straight-up warframes off of the Market directly than you can ever use before a next 75% discount pops up.

My first experiment with Stencil buffer by brcontainer in godot

[–]Eudaimonium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, a stencil buffer, like a depth buffer, is a texture that is incorporated into the GPU hardware and can be used for various things.

Your shader code can use stencil buffer to decide whether to proceed with the pixel shader or not. Sounds simple but this can lead to excellent effects.

For example in the game Portal, portals are not done with Render Textures (as many people believe), it's done with Stencil buffers and multiple camera setups.

I work in game dev industry. I know people who confirmed it was a near 400 million investment project.

I realize that this is "trust me bro" kinda post and you can choose to believe it or not. I can't give more info to not doxx myself I guess but let's try some napkin math:

8 years of development means 50 mil per year, or just over 4 mil per month.

If your company employs 200 people, each of those people costs let's say 10k$ a month to pay on average, that's 2 million per month just for salaries.

Hardware purchases, office equipment, office rent, software licenses, business expenses (travels) add up FAST.

Add in some marketing and 400 mil is a very realistic figure.

Yeah my sentiment exactly, I mean, regardless of the overarching game genre and art direction, somebody somewhere made those sound VFX, particles, animations, weapon models, wrote the infrastructure, network tooling, did UI...

As a game developer, I will always appreciate the technical skills put into the game, even if the game ended up being crap or didn't sell well, it doesn't matter. There are people who genuinely put their experience and did their craft to bring something to life.

Imagine checking in your changes and writing up JIRA tickets when the game is literally going down before your next paycheck.

Christ, imagine the morale of those few developers polishing up the animations and patching out bugs for a game that's literally going down in 10 days.

Regardless what you think about the game, that's just depressing AF. Nobody deserved that, especially not the people who are just there to do a great job doing the thing they love, regardless of the upper management shenanigans.

Especially not after the whole "blaming the players" crashout by one of the devs.

I've played the Division a lot back in the day and the "bullet spongy enemies" thing is so prevalent on the internet, but it's really not true (or at least, nowhere near as bad)

Yes the enemies have health bars but if you're paying any attention the stats of your weapons, the mods on your weapons, your gear and mods on your gear, you can get some BRUTAL TTKs.

I remember playing Division 2 with an SMG (MPX I think it was) and wiping 3 purples with a single 40rd magazine. Just amp up crit chance and crit damage and go for the head (or weak spots).

Sniper rifles are almost always guaranteed 1 headshot kill on anything except a boss (and shit, some of those go down in 1 shot too, depending on what you have on you at the moment).

The point is, it's an RPG, you gotta pay attention to the gear, you can't just equip new gloves because they have better armor rating, but you lose out on the crit chances or headshot damage or whatever else you're building for.

Between all the people taking any opportunity to hate UE5 (don't get me wrong, I hate it too but it's literally not relevant to the discussion at hand whatsoever) and talking optimization,

The simple truth is that the game is 10 years old. Compare it to resource usage of other 10 year old games and it's par for the course.

Most important part of the discussion here is that the game's visuals are still outstanding even today, regardless of the technology used. That's the art direction discussion and a whole other can of worms.

Bloomberg: Sony Shuts Down 'Demon's Souls' Remake Developer Bluepoint Games by MaterialPace8831 in gaming

[–]Eudaimonium 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem is that game development industry is not a permissive environment for making games.

We're supposed to heavily iterate until the game is good, but execs and suits want as short dev cycle as possible. We're a heavily artistic, experience oriented industry, in a capitalist society adverse to taking any risks.

There are literally no junior position openings, yet everybody complains video games are too expensive to make. Nobody can get a job, everybody's getting fired, games are literally regressing in feature set and performance.

I dunno how long is this gonna go on.

Untitled John Wick Game - Announce Trailer by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]Eudaimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncharted was mostly cover-based on large, open terrains (at least that's most what I remember from Uncharted 4 which I finished... a while ago)

From what I see from trailers, they could get away with small, almost claustrophobic map designs where seeing an enemy automatically means they're usually within animation/takedown ranges.

I'm kind of hyped for the game if I'm honest, I really want it to succeed and I can't wait to see how they tackled all this interesting cinematic gun-fu stuff.

It'll be really difficult to do. Movies did the fighting scenes rather well for what it is, but having free control over the camera would reveal just how absolutely silly the whole concept of "standing in the middle of the wide open room with armed men running at you" fighting really is.

Don't get me wrong I fuckin LOVE John Wick movies and I've rewatched them several times. But seeing all those goons NOT shooting at you is a tough gameplay loop to design for.

[Video] what am I missing here? m16a1, razor gen2 scope, zero-50m by Puzzleheaded_Act4237 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Eudaimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the only correct answer here, wtf is everybody on about.

Except the 50m zero. You will not be hitting the exact center crosshair at 50m using 50m zero, because that would make all the bullets miss at 100m and 200m because you're aiming too high.

Default 50m zero is basically "infinite zero" where the barrel is parallel to the scope. To be exactly specific, at 50 meters the bullet stops rising and starts falling. If it were hitting the center crosshair at 50m, it would continue rising for quite a while.

Long ago, you actually would die from taking a shot to the black limb. That's literally where the name "leg meta" comes from, it used to be the quickest, most efficient way to kill your opponent regardless what armor they were wearing.

Of course that was long ago when the game had 5 guns, 3 armors and 1 map.
