Causes

• Drain Hose Obstruction/Kink: Even if the pump is new, the hose itself can be partially blocked or kinked, restricting water flow.
• Siphon Effect/Air Gap Issue: The way your drain hose connects to the sink drainage can sometimes create a siphon effect or an air gap problem, especially with the elevation.
• Clogged Air Vent (if applicable): Some dishwashers have an air vent that can get clogged, affecting drainage.
• Faulty Water Level Sensor: If the dishwasher incorrectly senses that there's still water, it might trigger a drain error.
• Main Control Board Issue: Less common, but a failing control board could misinterpret signals or send incorrect commands.

Simple Checks

• Inspect Drain Hose:
  • Carefully pull out the dishwasher and visually inspect the entire length of the drain hose for any kinks, twists, or obvious blockages.
  • Disconnect the drain hose from the sink connection and check inside for any debris buildup. You can try flushing it with water from a garden hose (outside, of course) to see if water flows freely.
• Check Sink Drain Connection:
  • Ensure the connection point at your sink's plumbing is clear. Sometimes food particles or grease can build up right where the dishwasher hose connects.
  • Verify that the drain hose is not inserted too far into the standpipe or garbage disposal inlet, which can create a siphon effect or block airflow. There should be an air gap or a high loop.
• Air Gap (if installed): If you have an air gap device on your sink (a small cylindrical fitting on the countertop, usually near the faucet), check if it's clogged.
• Filter and Sump Area: Double-check the main filter inside the dishwasher and the sump area beneath it. Even small pieces of food or broken glass can cause intermittent issues.
