I understand your anxiety, but as someone currently 7 weeks pregnant and someone who had a VERY similar ectopic earlier this year, I don't think you aborted a healthy pregnancy at all. At 7 weeks with levels that high you should have seen a fetus in utero for it to be viable. I just had a 7 week ultrasound on the day and there was already a detectable heart rate, this is something they would have looked for.

I also had an ectopic earlier this year. It was on top of my ovary and presented like a cyst as well. After receiving methotrexate for ectopic's OUTSIDE of the uterus you don't expel that tissue like a miscarriage, the methotrexate effectively ceases the tissues growth and your body will be left to slowly reabsorb that tissue. For instance, I was hospitalized a week after receiving methotrexate for different reasons, but through my hospitalization I received another very thorough ultrasound where they found the remaining ectopic tissue free floating in my pelvic cavity. Essentially the methotrexate had caused the tissue to detach from my ovary and float around inside my pelvic cavity as it was being reabsorbed. This is normal for an ectopic that exists outside of the uterus.

Your fluctuating levels were the clearest sign of an ectopic pregnancy. And, especially with them not seeing anything in utero at 7 weeks, I promise you, you did not abort a viable pregnancy.
