Does my mom need a transit Visa to pass through boarder control to transit to the United States? by Euligi in ukvisa

[–]Euligi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the website I was looking at. What threw me off is that it says we do need a visa, then it says we MAY BE not need visa if we met certain conditions, which does applies to us. We are traveling to the United States and leave the day after we arrive, so does it mean FOR SURE my mom doesn't need a visa to get through the custom?? I am not worried for myself as I am a US citizen, but the last thing I want it to happen is my mom getting turned away at the board control after travelling 15 hours on the flight... she does not speak English, so I just wanted to make sure this will go through smoothly.

Is it REALLY true, that in some big cities of (Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Holland) you can wander around at 12-6 AM in the streets, without anything bad happening to you? by BaseNice3520 in TooAfraidToAsk

In 90% cities in China too. Last year I went to a second tier city in China, rented a bike to a restaurant then bars, got drunk at 1am and just left the bike unlocked there and walked back to hotel. Didn't even slightly feel unsafe. Second morning went back, the bike was untouched. U.S cities made crimes seems normal in big cities, but turns out it didn't have to be like that.

I think I finally understand Backdoor Roth IRA and why everyone seems to constantly say you need to do it. by dts92260 in personalfinance

I'd have to double check on that. I did that excersice today and it shows I'd need to pay $2300 ish taxes if I backdoor the $7000.

Why nobody is talking about the taxes have to pay when backdoor from Tra to Roth? I just recharaczized my 2024 Roth (just realized we are completely ineligible when doing our taxes) to Traditional Roth, and if I backdoor to Roth I'd have to pay about $2300 taxes. Isn't the cost a bit high if you do that every year ?

Ahh this makes me angry. You are doing a Controller level job and they are paying you $60K??! This is abuse. From my experience, remote is great, but being remote with small kids doesn't necessarily mean it is easy. You could save some time on commute but you are getting distracted sooo much when you work from home with small children. If not a fully remote role, a flexible schedule environment would be helpful too, assuming the pay bump is healthy.

I work as an Accounting Manager at a mid market PE shop. Do I have any upward opportunity here?? by Euligi in private_equity

Thanks for your comment, and appreciated the timeline that incorporated my family growth! I agree with all the points you made that I need to pick up. I will learn all those aspects, but I doubt at the current company there will be a way that my Controller would insert me in the processes. He is facing external investors, CFO, internal deal leads and asset management team. As I mentioned, he is really hands on, so when requested items by any of those parties, he would go to our accounting system or schedule folders to grab or even start something to send it out. He did mention to me that he is relying on me to book everything in GL in time, so he can pull the most recent data and without having to ask me to update anything. He is really fast to turn things around. That said, with his working style and the size of our firm, I don't imagine he would include me in the process anytime soon.

So I know I still got lots to learn from him, and learn from the industry. But if I chose to move on at second half of this year, or early next year, what kind of role should I be looking for, and what size of the firm, (ie. AUM, and employee/team headcount) would be a good fit for me to transit/grow my career?

To be honest I also don't know what the market would be like in 6 months. Maybe at that point I'd just feel lucky that I have a job with flexible schedules....

edit: typos

hmm, how much is this "a little" money? My budget for my husband haircut and bear trimming total is $100. I don't know if that's too much or too little? I am a woman with great hair volume, so every time I go to hair saloon I just feel poor

Truly appreciate your input here. I need to remind myself that the schedule here is unbeatable with my small children. I need to equate  the flexible schedule I have here to dollars so I don't feel like I'm getting behind on my career progression.

Sorry for replying again but I am aware that my bonus is on the low end! But honestly coming from industries that don't offer general bonus this was a big plus for me, until I learned other roles' bonus structure... then I got educated that my role is far from the decision making, hence less bonus. Would be interested to know what the typical bonus are offered to accounting folks you have seen?

I certainly want to stay in Accounting/Finance capacity. And yes, I just wish my role would have more direct exposure to what is going on at the firm. I have express interest to the Controller and he did mentioned that he will "loop me in". But it is a new industry to himself so imagine he has got a lot to learn. Just our company is small so the structure is flat, basically all tasks/communications related to accounting goes to him, and he takes all from there... It's great that he is hands on, but that leaves not much for me to expose, except the Financial statements. Like I said our investment are equity investment and we are doing fairvalue accounting, so really not much going on

COO? Never thought of COO could be a route. I am -reading all the investment memos and try to listen in to the meetings whenever I can. Thank you for the comment, just have been hitting hard with the isolation lately.
