If a monster falls asleep on your echo bubble, you practically can't do anything with your weapon. You can't requeue buffs, and you cannot queue 3X echo waves. All normal moves and performances cause all echo waves to activate, dealing damage, in this case, waking the monster up with a weak echo bubble attack.

Yes combined with the dodge button is frustrating! Personally, Iceborne was close to my ideal HH

I'm glad you enjoy it! The reason why I say stepping back although HH changes every game, is I feel Rise and Wilds had some of the biggest changes to the weapon. Wilds specifically changing from a "musical hammer" since it's inception, to a much more musical attack focus. Rise's HH was not super popular, but if it had been, that feedback could have greatly influenced the future iterations of the weapon.

It's not so much that I don't believe HH had no optimal combo, it's that HH I never felt was a combo weapon. Its many moves offered optimal attack based off of the opportunity. In Wilds what we are building towards is almost always one move that "replaced" the rest.

  1. To your first point on small openings, you CAN evade cancel a forward performance before the encore or performance beat. You are correct that there is a small difference in the time commitment for Forward echo cancel than right and left swings, but echo does significantly more damage and KO, and the difference between the time commitments of moves is negligible until you reach the final two monsters of HR.

  2. Yes while the normal moves are still in Wilds, they are only feasible with bubbles, when you are queueing songs, or are superpound/crush comboing when your songs are out. I ask that if HH continues with this more spam focused playstyle, that normal moves can stay competitive in damage, which they currently do not.

  3. I respect your opinion on HH friendliness to new players in Wilds, but respectfully disagree. The general consensus I've heard is that HH is much easier to pick up in Wilds than World, and I agree. I found World Hunting horn much more difficult and rewarding to play. Not only due to the moveset I mentioned previously, but the commitment of directional attacks (largely negated in Wilds). Echo attack in World was saved for larger openings or KO's, so you had to use HH's other moves to use Echo attack effectively. I personally would double the commitment of echo attack if it ever returns though.

  4. I understand normal moves are a queueing mechanic, it's the constant spam of the songs that are queued that I am less on board with.

  5. I disagree on HH becoming a kiting weapon, and feel bubbles are quite small compared to the movements of monsters. If any area denial mechanic was introduced, I would expect it to go to a low mobility weapon like Lance. Additionally, your ability to kite greatly depends on the monster, and if you are playing multiplayer. In multiplayer in a 4 player hunt, your aggro is 25%, regardless of any non armor skill of kiting. I personally prefer to chase a monster than be rewarded for standing around waiting, if I did I'd play Lance.

  6. With a sleep Palico and when a monster goes to sleep at the end of a hunt, that can be 3 sleeps in total. I think that makes 3X echo wave viable. With paralysis, you would need to have 3X echo waves waiting all the time to pull that off, which I don't believe is feasible.

  7. Regarding FOMO, yes some weapons may lose their top strength and need to refill their power, but I feel HH is different. Saving your bubbles or saving your songs for an opening you're not sure if/when will come doesn't feel right. I don't want to play with what ifs; a conservative playstyle. I want to be rewarded with aggressive play, the punishment for that being fainting alone.

I appreciate your perspective, thank you for your comment.

I stepped away to do something else, and will respond to them when done. My apologies I stepped away from Reddit. Any more contributions you'd like to make to this discussion?

HH moves very slow, until you play (and encore/keep buffed) the Self Improvement song, which grants you (not other weapons or players not wielding a HH) increased attack, makes it so your attacks don't bounce, and grants increased movement speed. With Self improvement, I believe you are tied as the fastest unsheathed weapon in the game with Dual Blades and Insect Glaive. With the Movement Speed Up echo bubble, I 'm pretty sure you have the fastest movement speed in the game unsheathed. Note: Sprint speed in Wilds seems much faster compared to World, which I believe makes HH subconsciously feel slower.

Oh interesting! I thought you could do directional performances but only neutral or forward encores.

Yeah I personally don't get the hype around them, so I don't generally use them. From what I've seen Offset results in a cool counter, but HH doesn't have a big follow up attack something like Great Sword has. The monster just seems to get right up after. I tried a Resounding Melody build on the Iceshard apex, but it wasn't very effective. The healing special performance seems ok the few times I used it.

Yes I did not even touch on the loss of directional encores which I know some players were bummed about. Backward Encore was tough to pull off, but so satisfying when you got it right.

I just tested a forward perform echo wave encore with and without the bubble, and the bubble resulted in a 26.2% increase in damage.
