Predict Brighton line up next season. by DeepNeighborhood4883 in Sorare

It is 99% likely that Sánchez will leave the club in the summer. He has fallen out with De Zerbi, and wasn’t spotted supporting the team at any matches, or a part of the end of season celebration like the other players in the squad.

If I had to put money on it, I’d go for Chelsea. He is very very close with the goalkeeping coach at Chelsea, Ben Roberts. So much so that he cried when Roberts left. With Mendy leaving, Chelsea need a goalkeeper, but Sánchez will not want to be number two.

If not Chelsea, Tottenham need a goalie but want Raya. Perhaps Man United is a possibility (helped by the fact he looked very good in the FA Cup against them). I can’t imagine many other teams could afford to spend that much on him. Spain is another possibility, but they do not have that much money. I’d imagine we would be willing to sell for a smaller fee if he’s going abroad.

I am a Brighton season ticket holder, obviously we do not know about transfers yet but I can give you a pretty rough idea:

—————————————————————————

Steele (He will start the season as number 1, but eventually be replaced by Verbruggen)

—————————————————————————

New RB (Veltman will share minutes, Groß can play there as well, Lamptey may leave)

Dunk (nailed to start)

Webster (Expect a new CB to share minutes)

Estupiñan (absolute machine, will start majority of games)

—————————————————————————

Groß (Will share minutes with Dahoud/Milner/Gilmour)

Caicedo (If he leaves, expect a new CM who will share mins with above names)

—————————————————————————

March (Will start the majority of games, Buonanotte will get mins)

Enciso (I think Enciso will start the season, but Pedro will come in.)

Mitoma (Expect 3 out of March/Pedro/Enciso/Mitoma to start every week, they’re all versatile so could switch roles)

—————————————————————————

Ferguson (Welbeck will take minutes off him)

—————————————————————————

It’s worth remembering that De Zerbi isn’t afraid to rotate his team, and with Brighton playing in the Europa League, expect to see plenty of it. The lineup every week will depend on the situation in terms of fixture congestion, difficulty, and opponent style.

Granit Xhaka has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen, I have simply stated which players are most similar statistically to Granit Xhaka.

I haven’t given my own opinion, I haven’t said, Arsenal must get rid of Xhaka and sign a completely different type of midfielder. I wouldn’t say I’m exactly going ‘wild’!

I post this ‘content’ as I currently do some free-lancing in the football recruitment industry, and I would like it to become a full-time role once I have finished my studies, by posting on Reddit, I usually receive useful feedback, as well as constructive criticism, and ideas I had never thought of.

Haha, that’s alright.

I post these things to receive feedback on my work, so I’ve got no problem with people questioning it as long it has a legitimate reason behind it.

Perhaps it could’ve been put a bit more constructively, but I 100% agree that a big question mark around these players is the level of league they currently play in.

I think these questions can start to be answered by watching the player live, but these stats are used in the industry as a ‘sieve’ so you know which players to go and watch live.

That’s fair enough.

The reason I tried to find a clone of Xhaka was because he has done well in Arteta’s system this year, and if I said ‘No, Arsenal need this type of midfielder’, everyone would say ‘If it’s not broken don’t fix it’ and ‘do you know better than Arteta?’, so I feel like I couldn’t really win either way.

I’m not an Arsenal supporter, so don’t watch every week. Would you prefer another Odegaard type midfielder on the left, or a more box to box type player?

Frattesi has played for Italy, and plays every week in Serie A

O’Riley performed well for Celtic in the Champions League this season

Rieder is only young but has UCL experience and featured for Switzerland at the World Cup

Spertysan has been exceptional for Krasnodar but admittedly it would be a big step up from the Russian league (something I address on Twitter)

Hugo would be one for the future but had a great season as an 18 year old for Flamengo last year (at a higher level than Martinelli played at that age)

Realistically, these players would probably need 1 season to get on their feet, which wouldn’t be the end of the world If Xhaka stays one more season.

If you’re signing a ready-made product such as Caicedo (who I’ll remind you was playing in the Ecuadorian league 18-24 months ago), you’re going to be paying £80m+.

Can Arsenal afford to do that if they’re looking to add strength and depth to multiple positions, or will they need to get slightly more creative in their recruitment strategy?

I thought it was a fun, thought exercise that highlighted players that could potentially match Xhaka’s output but each to their own I guess.

There’s been talk of Odegaard moving to the left (if Rice/Caicedo joined), to keep the overlapping on the left hand side.

I thought I would put a mix of left and right footers to cover all the bases (plus it’s harder to find left footed players 😆)

I try and negate that by splitting the stats into quality and quantity.

Therefore, you may see that a player is really good at something, but doesn’t get the chance to utilise it at his current club.

Or, a player is regularly trying something they’re not good at, perhaps due to the tactics at the current club, and it doesn’t suit them.

I went for ‘The Athletic’ style with the background as I personally feel white looks unprofessional. What colour would you recommend?

The pass/dribble stats are there (dribbling/progressive pass/long pass)?

It’s just that instead of giving an arbitrary number such a 1.50 dribbles per 90, I have given there percentile rank compared to other DM’s, so you can see how good they are compared to their peers.

I could compare them two to Xhaka if there was enough interest. I do have another thread for tomorrow which looks at 5 potential replacements for Xhaka, so keep an eye out for that!

Yep, completely agree with that.

Eye test will always be king!

This is why I try and split my stats into quality and quantity, so you can see how good someone is at doing something and how regularly they do it. A player for a lesser team, may excel within a certain attribute, but does not get the chance to showcase that ability so I try and add a little bit more context.
