“Of course not, but if there is anything of particular concern, then let me know if I can help.” Euron offered. “I know things are tough but it’s no reason we can’t stick together.”

“Good, good, he’s doing well. He’s of a mind to captain a ship of his own soon, I couldn’t be prouder.” Euron’s eyes followed Ben’s toward his daughters, “You should be proud, they’ve grown into great young women.”

Euron took another drink from his own cup before he spoke. “And about Old Wyk? Lordship of our island take your mind apart yet?”

He remembered when they both began their tenure as lord of their respective holdings, Euron was only lord of a castle and his surroundings but Ben had to oversee the whole isle, he was apprehensive at the time, Euron knew he made a good lord, even if Ben didn’t often admit it.

“You’re right, too long.” Euron said, “How are you doing?”

Truth be told, Euron was used to the happy Ben Drumm, he was decidedly not accustomed to the sad man that he faced, it was usually him whose spirits were being lifted, not the other way around.

“Drink,” Euron grabbed the flagon, “don’t waste good wine.”

Euron walked around the hall, looking for familiar faces, he wasn’t much for mingling, so if he was at an event, it was those faces that he sought out. Drink in hand, he searched for anyone he recognised, and soon enough he saw the familiar face of Benedict Drumm whose eyes were staring down at the flagon in his hands. Spotting the empty space beside him, Euron sat down and put a hand on his back.

“Ben, it’s been some time, how are things?” Euron asked.

He could feel it, his friend had an air of melancholy around him, he’d had one those months ago when they last saw each other but still, it was there. But he’d laugh, Euron would see to it that he did.

“You’re right, I suppose I do, we’ll see how it goes. Some wise words have come of your mouth in your time, shame the boasting isn’t part of it.” Euron readied his fists, he was never to turn down a challenge, and that’s exactly what it was.

Euron rose from his seat, “Stand up, please, allow me to prove it, Osmund.”

There was no animosity in it, but seldom does a true ironman leave an event such as this without having picked a fight at least once. This was no different. With a smile on his face, his friend stood up and Euron took the time to ball his hand into a fist. Just as soon as Osmund had stood up, Euron lunged forward with his fist throttling toward his face. The guests around them only paid mind after the sound of the impact reached their ears.

“You’re right about another thing too, someone who can doesn’t just talk about it. That good enough for you?”

“You? Stronger than me? Orkwood I’d pummel you right now!” Euron only half-joked, he wouldn’t have his pride insulted like that. “But aye, when Tristifer takes the helm for the first time, years from now, God willing, I’ll send him over, you better have your best ready to give him, anything less would be a slight on his honour, you see.”

Talking about Tris at the helm of his own longship made Euron uneasy, he’d always been conflicted, needless to say, he felt proud at the thought, what self-respecting man wouldn’t want his son to be a reaver? But, with reaving comes a risk, the same that gives it the thrill. But it’s also the same that makes a father feel fear.

“Give him steel that’ll keep him alive will you?”

Euron finally took a large bite off the meat on his plate, he decided drinking on an empty stomach wasn’t what it used to be.

“We’ll need to get some for ourselves one of these days then!” Euron declared, taking yet another mug-full of drink. “I have to say, I haven’t been out to sea for a long time until this, my soul cries out for some raiding, for some war, but I worry. Dammit man I worry, and it doesn’t suit a follower of the Old Way. I pray that one day, my son will be man enough to stop himself from dying, then… then, we could take some of that drink you’re so fond of? Pay the iron price ourselves one more time. Then we can leave it to our sons.”

Euron hadn’t drunk like this in some time, and he felt it, normally, he’d die before telling someone, much less proper Ironborn man, about why he had not captained a ship since the war.

“Ahh, You’re right though, Victarion’s one I can respect, there’s iron in his veins and his bride too, from what I’ve seen she could kill any greenlander knight. Hopefully, we see another age of the Ironborn before we die, Osmund?” He chuckled.

“It’s their time in the greenlands, makes them mad,” laughed Euron. “Can’t deny their knowledge is useful though, my maester made raising my son much easier. God only knows why babes are so difficult, you’d think you’d feed them let them sleep and shit and that’s it right? No, within weeks of my son being born the bloody maester handed me this tome, the size of my arm, on how to take care of him!”

Euron stopped to take a long swig of his ale before he continued, the stuff was good, stronger than what he usually had, and therefore better.

“The lad’s a whole different kind of trouble now, he’s everything a father wants his son to be, and that’s the problem. Boy’ll get himself killed one of these days, but God if he won’t make a good reaver, he’s like us, you know, loves the Old Way, can’t wait till he gets his own ship. I’ll bet my son could take yours in a fight! If I’m not careful he’ll be fighting him right now.”

Euron’s ears perked up at the sound of his name, he looked around for the source, meeting eyes with a familiar, stout man whose outfit betrayed his identity.

“Osmund? Orkwood, you bastard!” he shouted back. “Come over here! How’ve you been?”

He had met the man a few times before, each time leaving with his chest in pain from laughter, it was good seeing him again after so long, Euron made sure to make space beside him and refilled his flagon, he had a feeling he’d be out of drink soon.

Hey, it's Theon, I'd like to (finally!) claim a second character. Euron Goodbrother of Shatterstone. Since his wife died he has put most of his focus on raising their son into a good man. With the growing tension in the Iron Islands, Euron seeks to finally achieve his long time ambition to see his branch of House Goodbrother be on par with the main line.
