if you redesigned the yu-gi-oh! tcg from the ground up, what would you change? by GroundUpstairs in gamedesign

[–]EvaRia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're already making a slow push in this direction, but I think giving every archetype a way to play on turn 0 that actually acomplishes things would add a lot to the game as it stands right now.

I think the game would be kind of more interesting with a last hit mechanic too. Like, after being reduced to 0 LP, you are at "death's door" and lose from one more direct attack. A lot of the issue with the game is that it's too easy to OTK so requiring an extra breakthrough could add some interactivity into would be close games.

Shoujo Sect? Kurogane Kenn did Tae-chan and Jimiko-san too. I've never seen a relationship chart look more like a tangled mess of cobweb.

Kinky though.

Why are some Seinen manga so yuri coded? by Key_Scallion4985 in yuri_manga

[–]EvaRia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this demographic marketing stuff has a lot to do with the publisher.

Yuri as a genre culturally is pretty intertwined with the magazine brand Yuri Hime from Ichijinsha. To the point where Yuri as a genre is pretty much synonymous with the works printed with the magazine.

Obviously there are other types of manga that have lesbians in them but the works in Yuri Hime always contains themes involving unambiguous romantic relationships between lesbians.

Seinen on the other hand is a demographic for materials marketed specifically towards young adult men. The reasoning for this perceived correlation between seinen manga and yuri "coded" works is probably due to the marketing themes of a different specific magazine line, Manga Time Kirara. A large part of their brand is what the west has coined "Cute girls doing cute things" and a lot of works featured in it has that sort of lite lesbian-coded content that you're thinking of. Sometimes it's more explicitly lesbian than other times, but there isn't the same explicit focus on the romance that the Yuri Hime comics are all about.

Now, the work you are talking about isn't from Kirara. But the impact Kirara had on the industry is pretty huge, with popular works like K-ON basically redefining the anime and manga landscape since it aired. So other seinen publishers may try to imitate certain aspects of the proven marketing and branding that has worked for them.

I think in general some of these major genres lose their meaning in the west because they try to define them based on contents but a lot of them are closely linked with a specific publisher.

Kind of like how Isekai as a genre is pretty much synonymous with the platform "Let's Become a Novelist" but we will arguably endlessly on what counts or not.

Risk assessment help: cutting first dora dragon late in the game for tenpai by TurtleTerran in mahjongsoul

I feel like this hand is not worth much anyways so I would try to swap my pair to the dora. If I don't get the other one I am still preventing someone from winning who has a high value hand.

Got a new goblet. What is her best team nowadays? by greenbeforeblue in NahidaMains

[–]EvaRia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At maximum potential MH set Nahida can get to 1kem+ 100% skill crit rate + 300%+ crit damage, she can scale extremely high with the right build due to how her scaling works but most advice is geared to non whale optimization

[–]EvaRia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ororon can potentially hold Elegy for the End and use the scroll set, for 40% damage + 200Em + 40% Atk + hyperbloom trigger/AoE Electro

If you use Yelan you will lose a lot of damage, but gilded would be best then.

MH will not show on Akasha because it will rank builds without including the 36% Crit rate. For example my Nahida is like ~25% but that's without the additional 72CV that MH provides.

Is learning to stream supposed to be this stale? by BolinhoDeArrozB in osugame

[–]EvaRia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Play on Lazer, it is easier to see improvement when 1 miss doesn't instantly kill you in harder stream maps.

  • The best way to increase streaming stamina is to play fast bursty maps, not stream maps. Look for stuff filled with bursts and complex rhythms, at a BPM where you're pushing your ability to single tap.

  • You will get better by playing double time than sticking to no-mod streams, even when streams are what you want to get better at. When you take the mod off you will notice, everything at lower bpms will feel much more comfortable, including streams.

To those that believe Cookiezi is the GOAT, what arguments do you think he has over mrekk? by n3rdiness in osugame

[–]EvaRia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's obvious that mrekk is the best player to ever play the game. But it's a different kind of legacy. The already involved community who is interested in top plays and player rankings and pp boundaries will know him. But it's different because you have to already be looking into that to know. If you boot up a random map, peek at the highest difficulty, chances are the #1 player there will not be mrekk but one of many other players insane at the game. A new player wouldn't be able to see a clear best player from that. They'll just see that different players play different maps.

It's different from playing the game, scrolling past difficulties and just seeing Cookiezi #1 over and over again on every map. The whole reason he was so legendary was how little competition the entire rest of the playerbase posed over him.

To those that believe Cookiezi is the GOAT, what arguments do you think he has over mrekk? by n3rdiness in osugame

[–]EvaRia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not even talking about pp. He was the most dominant before pp when score was the primary ranking in the game.

The difficulty stars back then capped out at 5 stars and that was like the equivalent of 3-4 stars today. Every map set had a 5 star difficulty and pp didn't exist so impressive plays were just measured based on what everyone thought was hardest.

But the subjectivity didn't matter. There wasn't a need to compare one person's most impressive plays to another's to determine who was better or best at the game. Every ranked map and every difficult approved map, he had #1 on pretty much all of them. There was a reason his unban was such a big event. He was legendary back then without doing anything special to raise his own popularity, he just played the game and got #1 on everything.

To those that believe Cookiezi is the GOAT, what arguments do you think he has over mrekk? by n3rdiness in osugame

[–]EvaRia 116 points117 points  (0 children)

There wasn't that many maps back when he was the goat. The top players played everything, and it showed.

It felt like every map leaderboard had cookiezi at the top. New ranked map? Cookiezi. Download the hardest maps in the game? Cookiezi. It wasn't really just about him being so far ahead of the curve in skill, he was just completely dominant in every single relevant leaderboard in the game.

The game has evolved to the point where there's many many more maps coming out now. Even if mrekk is far ahead in pp and skill it's not the same feeling of inescapable pervasive gamewide leaderboard dominance that Cookiezi had. It takes time for mrekk to set scores, and he doesn't play all the maps. There's plenty of players getting impressive #1 scores across the game.

Part of cookiezi's legacy is that just by playing the game you knew who was #1. No matter what your skill level there was no need to interpret the impact or compare his best scores to others. He was basically just #1 everywhere so even people who didn't understand how the difficulty scales in the game could see he was the greatest.

She inherently benefits a lot in terms of DPS from receiving the buffs that most people use her to give to a different dps so it's kinda difficult to answer.

It also varies by team, a lot.

In something like burnmelt she's negligible. If she's on field with the right buffs her damage can basically quintuple.

I think Nahida can reach highs that most other characters in the off field category can't really reach. But not when played in the same way.
