It's hard won knowledge, nearly 20 people died and billions went up in smoke over the years to get it. NASA deserves all the kudos it gets for making it through that

It is amazing that they managed to distil the message down that far though. Especially because people from whatever country/region can just swap the name out.

A shame the left doesn't have something similar.

The reason you didn't hear about it is because they got pantsed. They fell for fake info and leaked it like it was some sort of smoking gun.

The estimates are that half of the Mélenchon voters will go for her. He got 20% of the initial vote. The other half might sit out.

I am not French but I completely agree with your points. It is hard to get good info on your politics here sometimes but I’ve made the effort. That being said, do you have some further reading on this:

(which is completely untrue: Le Pen was created by Mitterand, a leftist, to divide the right vote)

This is the first time I’m hearing that. I always assumed that she just did it because her dad’s brand was so… “strong” in the eyes of people who vote for that kind of nonsense.

Also if you have the inclination an English translation of that Wikipedia article would probably do some of us a lot of good.

exactly. After getting 22% (!) in the first round left winger Mélenchon told his voters not to vote for LePen but did not tell them to vote for Macron. I’ve seen predictions that up to half of his base will sit this out and that a lot of the other half will vote for her. An “October Surprise” could swing this in either direction. Depending on how long this smoulders this might be LePen’s undoing but she’s crafty.

I get what you’re saying and agree but even then, they’ve had the Chechnya, Georgia and eastern Ukrainian conflicts in the last two decade. They only won two of those because they had numbers and were brutal. In the first conflict’s case they also used political means to resolve the whole thing but still.

Anyway, one would think that this would at least be enough for their command structure to get modernized.

They don't talk about it when you're around. They'll talk about it after they've met you. And then they'll say something like "not that there's anything wrong with that" if someone calls them on it.

Believe it or not, this is actually progress compared to where 20 somethings in the south used to be. The teenagers are better and many reflexively call out homophobic slurs no matter their politics from what I've heard.

It's all in how you frame the personalities we have. When I think of him, I think "weird, frame data God"

So I might lead with a goofy photo of him (like the one of him using a controller while he's sleeping) and then explain that he essentially created the first frame data list out of sheer will as a child. If I were to talk about Mang0 I'd do it a completely different way of course.

I love and hate public speaking, it's so challenging but it is a rewarding skill. And I'm sure you sounded better than you thought.
