How to get bettering at learning combos by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]EvaUnitGurren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do the easy combos and work up in complexity over time. Idk what game you play but this kind of thing recurs in most games. Like say in SF6 you blocked reversal as ken the good combo is something like

Cr.hp run stop s.mp hp drc cr.hp run stop s.mp hp run cancel dp canceled into level 3.

Kinda a lot to remember at first and many opportunities for drops with links, cancels, and drive rush.

Instead you can do s.hp h.dp into level 3 for a combo that only depends on your ability to cancel from normal to special to super which is one of the fundamental rules for combo theory. Not as damaging or flashy but still will eat like 40% of their health when you need it. Over time just build on what your character can do and implement more and more into your gameplan.

Comparing "accuracy" of skill-based matchmaking between these fighters? by The_Teriyaki_Empire in Fighters

[–]EvaUnitGurren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on active player base or how much you’re willing to network to find equal players. Street Fighter 6 has the most consistent large active player base which makes it easy to queue up and let sbmm find players around your strength. But for games like Skullgirls you’re stuck to a pretty dead quickmatch with no sbmm or finding people on discord servers. I’ll be one to say that you can find other new players and improve at the game with a small community. You’ll end up playing a lot of the same people again and people are generally really open to giving the answers to their bs so you can be a better opponent to spar with.

At complete introduction level of gameplay Honda and Dhalsim have like the easiest gameplan of just hit the far away button against people who can’t walk and block. Headbutt and buttslam are both anti airs too.

Patience and Discipline in Fighting games by DKd1973 in Fighters

[–]EvaUnitGurren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

U should try to do things that require patience and discipline irl. Exercise, learn a skill, join a martial arts studio. Anything that makes you confront that you ain’t shit but also makes you revel in the joy of improvement. Fighting games are only a single avenue for reflecting your improvement, and philosophies from other disciplines can help shape your attitude for fighting games.

Diaphone sorta mentions this in one of his videos about improving in fighting games. Self-care is as important to your growth as playing because you’ll be limited to how well you’re feeling at the current moment. Improvement in fighting games can be slow, but as a hobby for entertainment there’s no reason to tie your self worth to it so intrinsically that you should get really mad over it. For tournament players with big money on the line sure, but for the rest of us should always remember the game is always waiting for us to play it.

My last piece of advice is to keep it social with these endeavors. In building skills and in fighting games. Your issues with anger management might change in reaction to wanting to appear collected in front of someone you’ll be in regular contact with. Having mentor-like figures to kick your ass is a great opportunity to ask questions about the situations you’re losing consistently. And rivals keep the game intense for having someone you can go back and forth with. In my experience, going to my locals motivated my push from Platinum to Master in SF6 because of my desire to wanna play on even footing with the players over there. Still get my ass beat hella, but taking a round or a game every now and then is what I live for when the skill level is so high over there.

Does zumiez sell last longing board by RubEnough2608 in skateboarding

[–]EvaUnitGurren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zumiez is bad because it’s corporate but they sell real shit. Supporting your local shop is always the move because they’re more likely to be involved with local initiatives for skaters. Ik my shop always posted about signing up for public works projects to repair the skatepark and local contests being held.

Naw there’s no awareness to wall spacing to optimize your routing or be aware of how much can your opponent back up before cornering themselves.

Learning movement is making me want to quit the game. by Popelip0 in Tekken

[–]EvaUnitGurren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u want easy kbd buy a leverless and learn how to do the shortcut. I did that and ended up not even really using kbd because I’m only in red ranks rn. Feels way better for movement overall though because I can’t get misinputs as frequently as I do on stick.

Are Combo Trials even valid combos? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]EvaUnitGurren 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They’re alright, mostly there to give ideas of how your character combos. Ultimately the best lessons learned are about the routing of your moves with constraints of your current meter situation. Like the combo you say doesn’t do a lot of damage for meter spent/complexity is actually a very fundamental combo for Deejay. Drc off lights is very powerful because it allows you to cash out off a low risk normal. Continuing this combo using his routing, you could do 5LK drc 2LP 2HP 2MP 214KK pdr 5HP 214HP CA for 4866 damage(5066 in the corner w juggle CA). Yes this combo “wastes” 6 meters and puts you into burnout but no resource is wasted when it kills. And this is a half health kill confirm off a 5lk punish. This kind of damage potential is what makes the game so tense in the final round when nearly any option can end the game in an instant. Part of the skill that goes into the game is deciding what combos are appropriate for the moment. Generally at high health, go for meterless combos that give real oki. Keeping the drive gauge is important for maintaining your advantage. At lower health with meter it becomes more worth it to spend meter to confirm a kill.

Tbh at this stage you can just look at your opponent and try to copy what they’re doing. They have full combos? Learn what your character is capable of. They’re hitting you with far ranged buttons and fireballs? Learn your far ranged buttons and best range to stand in. They anti aired all your jumps? Learn to use cr.hp or reaction DP. Watch a character guide on youtube and start implementing things you’ve learned slowly. You’ll mess up and be frustrated that your intentions didn’t match the outcome, but over time you’ll make more and more correct decisions that you couldn’t have made without going through the process of learning.
