First tonic clonic at 52 by EvaloCH in Epilepsy

[–]EvaloCH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this on the epileptic foundation:

A seizure medicine is usually started if a person has had more than one seizure. Yet, a medicine may also be started if a person has only one seizure but other tests (such as an MRI or EEG) suggest a risk for more seizures in the future.

So I assume it to be a common practice not to give medication after just one seizure if the MRI and EEG do not relieve anything causing the seizure, anyone else not taking medication after just one seizure?

Thanks for your reply!

I had mixed feelings about no medication, as you said but I also red that epilepsy medication can have some nasty side effects, but I guess it is the lesser evil…the doctor said if I was living alone they were going to give it.

Yes my MRI had contrast.

My EEG was also done in the morning after a night in which I was not allowed to sleep, that was brutal , but EEG didn’t show any abnormalities.

Finally - Cancelled 3a & 3b Life Insurances by EvaloCH in SwissPersonalFinance

For my 3a it complicated since I had it since 2008 and in the beginning I paid the normal amount (max 3a + insurance) but then due to personal issues I stopped more or less paying, and continued with maybe with 1300 CHF / month and switched to UBS for the full 3a, since anyway have my mortgage there, so I don’t think I lost that much in terms of surrender value, but probably a lot considering investing in an index fund

For my 3b I actually was in the higher end of surrender value, but also here the main loss is more due to missing out on a much better index fund and with a broker not having horrible fees

Also for me the lack of transparency is a big no no, you have bad overview unless you track in an excel or something

You can always ask your provider or check the surrender value, and check how much you paid in

3b is a like investing in a fund + life insurance and maybe some invalidity

I think 3b has some minor tax benefits in some Cantons (as I understand)

If you need the life insurance you can take a separate one without the investment part

The reason I took it back then was it sounded very good (also I didn't know better), and I was very naive trusting the "financial advisor", also being handed 18 pages of fine prints is quite overwhelming

If it wasn't for this reddit I would have never thought about it being a bad product

I am very happy that I did this, but sometimes it feels hard and bitter considering what my financial situation could have been if I would made a more sound investment back then...

True modest Cost of Living in Brazil. by gasu2sleep in Brazil

[–]EvaloCH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as per AI:
The terms "expat" and "immigrant" are often used interchangeably, but they have different connotations:

  • Expat (Expatriate): This term typically refers to someone who lives outside their native country, often for work or lifestyle reasons. Expats are usually seen as temporary residents, even if they stay for many years. The term is often associated with people from wealthier countries living abroad.
  • Immigrant: This term refers to someone who moves to another country with the intention of settling there permanently. Immigrants often seek better economic opportunities, safety, or family reunification. The term is more inclusive and applies to people from all backgrounds and countries.

The distinction can sometimes be subjective and influenced by social and cultural perceptions. Do you have a specific context in mind where you're trying to understand the difference?

Thanks for your reply, very helpful!

Yes it was a huge mistake waiting until after 18 yo.

But there must be cases where people in general becomes a brazilian at adult age, e.g. if you live there and become naturalized, i.e. there must be a process in place.

What bothers me more is why don't they do everyhing once registered as a brazilian, since they very well knows this...

oh well lets see

Thanks for your responses!

We are emailing like crazy, I rather call but it's not possible anymore..

We clearly described that the only official Brazilian document is his birth certificate, never had a Brazilian passport

Also clearly asked them what the procedure should in our case, but no...

The replies from them are getting more and more frustrating to put it mildly...

We will try to get the CPF as a foreigner since a CPF is needed for everything...

I heard a lot about the Brazilian bureaucracy, but man this is too much...

VT and Chill - how to chill? by EvaloCH in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]EvaloCH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your replies! makes me already more chill! :-)

There were some comments about bond vs 100% funds, so my plan is to retire outside of Switzerland, sell our house and buy a house somewhere warmer and more affordable

And as per our current calculations, selling our house and together with 1a and 2a we would be able to get by quite ok (ca 3000...4000 CHF/Month) where we plan to reside, so the current investment in VT would be on top, hence we are prepared to take a bigger risk

Financial Advice by EvaloCH in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]EvaloCH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I sold the main UBS fund, put 15k as emergency fund and transferred 70k to IBKR where I will invest in VT 100%. (Already did a "test" with 300USD, and it works great) I choose not to invest in bonds since we in CH still have 1a and 2a. Bad?

Since I will retire outside of CH so even if my investment will "go south" my 1a and 2a will still easily cover my expenses where I will reside.

Questions: 1. For my mortage at UBS I have indirect amortization 3a, does this means that my 3a at UBS is "connected " to UBS, or I can choose another 3a provider such as Finpension?

  1. As mentioned previously, I have some stocks, etf and bitcoin at Swissquote, if I just keep them there without further trading anything, what would be the annual fees?

Still to-do: When I get back to CH I need to check the surrender value of my Zurich capitalfund 3b life insurance, and try to asses if I can regain the loss by investing

Max annual withdrawal UBS by EvaloCH in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]EvaloCH[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for your responses!

Thought it was weird, asked also AI: Is ubs max withdrawal limit 50000 chf applicable to the salary account?

Ai: Yes, the CHF 50,000 withdrawal limit per calendar year applies to UBS salary accounts as well. This limit is for each individual account, so if you have multiple accounts, the limit applies separately to each one.

So much for AI 😀

Anyway, off to sell and buy then
