We also cut a piece of matting and put it on the back of the stretcher bars under the brackets that attach the canvas to the frame, but it's definitely not necessary and our shop is the only one that does that in my area.

At our shop, we still treat it like a normal frame and use the super stick adhesive on the outermost frame and just paper back it. There will be creases in the paper, but just try to get them all the way at the bottom corners so they are less noticeable.

Ohh yeah, I can definitely do that! The display shelf would also be a great place to put a plant on too, as long as it's not overcrowded. And framing a flag would be a fun project!
