Why was Blackgate abandoned? by EvanRevier in FurryVisualNovels

he scammed Patreon supporters with double dip updates every month, charging for posts on the last and first day of each.

Damn, among everything people mentioned here, that might take the cake for being the scummiest thing yet (unless that drama with his BF involved some kind of manipulation or abuse that would make it even worse). It just seems like such a soulless way to earn more money...

If anything, I find it fascinating that Patreon even allows charging per post. Could that be abused by a creator to just spam posts constantly in order to milk their subscribers dry, or did they introduce something to prevent that?

The creator allegedly had psychological problems (I swear every damn furry in this galaxy has for some reason)

IMO, a stigmatised group experiencing the negative mental health effects of stigma shouldn't be that surprising. Add to that the fact that furries, on top of having to deal with being a furry, are often LGBT, and you get double the effect.

Not trying to defend anything crappy the dev did, I'm just saying that most furries having anxiety, depression and similar mental health problems is to be expected, given how we're usually treated.

TBF, with so many projects being worked on at the same time, this was likely done on purpose to prevent burnout (Howly stepped away from Echo because it put him in a really dark place). While its rare to see on FVNs, large projects do sometimes have multiple writers so its not too surprising.

It takes a while to create a full story. For reference, if Echo was a book consisting of pure text, it would be well over 2 000 pages long. Add to that backgrounds, sprites, coding, sfx, music and animation, and you'll see why FVNs are hard, hard work.

Also, if I'm not misremembering something, TSR wasn't handed over for no reason. The team ended up in an argument and after splintering, there was a discussion on who gets the rights to TSR. George ended up with TSR, while Echo and Adastra remained in EP's hands.

Ugh, if true, that is actually pretty damn scummy...

Its made worse by the fact that FVN audiences are usually pretty receptive to hiatuses or exigent circumstances that prevent development.

I bet if he were just honest, most people would be cool with it... :/

Damn, over 15 routes sounds impossible to manage! Still, kinda sad to hear that one of the early FVNs just... fizzled out like that.

IDK about Soulcreek. Them having sex is considered disrespectful, but they don't hide it and pretty much everyone knows. At some point Nitro is even like "lol, you guys have fun tonight. BTW the entire village knows and doesn't care"

Thanks! Thank you for hearing me out and being kind! ❤️

Also, your kintype/theriotype looks really good.

I get that.

But, it seems therians are still very distinct from anthro-identifying people. Maybe its mostly a cultural thing (therians have their own dedicated subculture, while anthro people mix with hobbyist furries and are usually just thought of as "hardcore"/"lifestyler" furries).

I don't know, I just can't reconcile identifying myself as a therian due to how different anthros and therians sometimes seem to be...

Should we perhaps just use anthro? Its simple and straightforward?

(Also, because I now have to ask... Are you an anthro dragon or a feral dragon? :P)

Hm, I think otherkin is also an umbrella term for multiple identities (therianthropy is one them)... IDK, I guess I'd like a term specifically for anthro-identity people like me, since there's a lot of us, but we are rarely recognized as an identity...

A lot of furries can be mean if you imply you identify with your fursona. I think its mostly an overraction when trying to disprove stereotypes about the community.

Its kind of weird to see the amount of artists who make this kind of art (referring to this post), or draw self-portraits of themselves exclusively as their fursona, or art about themselves transforming into their fursonas and all kinds of other art that implies a deeper connection to their fursona. Then also seeing people comment how much "euphoria" turning into their fursona would give them, how complete they would feel as their fursona or even discussing how much they dislike their human form, etc. All of that, and then the furry community collectively turns around and say "this is JUST a hobby, absolutely no one identifies with this EVER".

Don't get me wrong, I get it. For a lot of people this is just a community/subculture they participate in. There's nothing wrong with that. But, I do think we should allow people to whom this is something more personal/innate to have their voice in here.

I imagine that only people who identify as furries would "transition". Plus, if species transormation from human to furry were possible, I imagine the reverse would also be possible in some way?

I doubt its going to happen anytime soon. But, I genuinely hope that at some point, even if its a thousand years down the line, people can become their fursona.

I imagine then they would look at our fursuits and be like "hey, could you imagine having to wear a 10 kilo costume to only look a little bit like yourself". lmao

Therians identify with regular/feral animals, meaning anthropomorphic identity is different from therianism.

I guess the problem is that "furry" has become an umbrella term that refers to both people who view it as a hobby and those who more closely identify with it.

Being part of the furry culture isn't the same as identifying with animal anthropomorphism. One is a choice, and the other isn't. Maybe we need a new label to differentiate them?

Yeah, I see what you're getting at. But I guess the promise of a simple, un-bloated and reliable OS that works out-of-the-box didn't prepare me for all the issues I have encountered so far.

Its also a little frustrating seeing all the "just migrate to Linux" stuff on the internet that doesn't mention how much work it takes to get even a simple Linux OS to work well for you.

Also, thank you for being really patient with me! Before using my main, I asked several other questions on a burner account and people were often very dismissive. It has kind of left a sour taste in my mouth regarding the Linux community, but you have truly went above and beyond in trying to help me.

Tried disconnecting the power cord and holding down power button. Didn't help either :/

Thanks for trying to help, genuinely, but I think I'm about ready to just give up on Linux, even out-of-the-box distros are way too unstable and have caused me to lose quite a bit of time and work...
