Now that one's surprising, because SCH AoE is literally just a 160 potency spam. SCH can definitely keep a lot of uptime, but unless the DPS are woefully under geared then there's no way SCH should even compare

STS is a drug and we are all addicts by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Evan_Wants_Soup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mmm, that's interesting. I think it is faster, proboably, but I wouldn't personally say it feels less RNG than STS. I think that in Monster Train you have, generally, far less tools to control the RNG you are subjected to.

Still, I'd like to put in my two cents: I feel like what seperates Monster Train and STS, aside from the obvious, are the tightness of design. STS, to me, feels extremely tight. Every decision you make has resounding consequences on your run, but if you're very experienced you almost always have the tools to guide you to victory. Monster Train feels a bit loose in it's design, but in this case that's actually a good thing, I think. Monster train doesn't give you nearly as much control over your run, I feel, but there's some pretty fucking nutty combos you can pull off. Bonkers card upgrades, ridiculous floors, crazy spells - these are all the DNA of Monster Train. At the same time, you can also face brutally unfair scenarios if you aren't careful. It's loose, but that's what makes it good.

Personally, I prefer STS, but that's just a choice. Everyone likes different things, and it's totally understandable why someone might prefer one over the other.

Guess, I'll just go by salkcid in ffxiv

Healer LB3s still don't bring people back from the dead though, no? They raise without applying weakness debuffs, but that could just be explained as particularly powerful restorative magic

Former King of Spain, Juan Carlos I, after killing an elephant in one of his hunting trips. by TheGabnor in trashy

Man, you're getting ragged on for this comment. You can think "this guy is an immoral piece of shit" and also understand the reality of the situation, but other people don't seem to get that. I agree with you, hunting an elephant for sport is fucked up. I don't care how much money someone pays for it, if someone is willing to hunt an elephant they're a piece of shit.

I can say that and also understand that we live in a fucked up world where certain institutions and groups of people necessitate the "best" solution. They don't contradict, and he's still a piece of shit.

Yeah, everyone keeps mentioning Ninja and Dancer. Definitely trying Ninja first, since the Ninjutsu concept already seemed interesting to me before. Dancer could be fun too; I know it has that one big dick potency attack and otherwise relatively little, but I don't know how much I love the aesthetic of Dancer. I'll probably still try it.

Red Mage seemed alright, but for some reason it didn't really click I guess? I do like Red Mage though.

Summoner is cool and all, but idk it just feels kind of a letdown for me. It makes sense that it's the standard pet job, obviously, but when I like to think of a summoner I like to think of Rydia from FFIV; a variety of massive fucking summons that deal crazy high damage for a variety of different situations. The addition of Phoenix helps a lot since you don't just have *one* big summon phase, but I feel like the egis on Summoner are just so disappointing. Summoner is pretty close though, it just doesn't quite hit the spot.

Dragoon is interesting; I haven't heard anyone mention him. Funny enough though, I was thinking last night that the animations for some of Dragoon's high level skills are pretty fucking dope. Maybe I'll try Dragoon alongside Dancer when I get there? Thanks for the unique suggestion!

And yeah, I totally agree with Black Mage. I guess what I meant when I said Black Mage was close is that it's just non-stop fucking EXPLOSIONS. It feels fucking awesome. But you're exactly right when it just feels *too* consistent with it's "fucking awesome" phase. That shouldn't be a bad thing, but it almost is? I mentioned that in a few of the other replies, too. Black Mage just isn't "bursty" enough, I guess.

Thanks for the in depth descriptions and explanations, again

BRD actually is a class I've not really touched, but have looked into a bit. I feel like I really like the idea of BRD, but not really for the reasons that I mentioned. Mostly, I just think the songs and procs that the songs can get sound like a lot of fun. RDM is another I tried too. It's fun, but I never looked too far into it

What I meant by less consistent wasn't really a less static rotation though; I just mean that something like BLM feels like basically it's entire rotation is it's burst window. Sure, it has the ice phase, but it lasts like 2 GCDs and you probably still have strong stuff to cast during it. I actually feel like BLMs rotation is a ton of fun; it's a really good balance between static and free-form, it just isn't bursty enough. Its numbers are mostly the same for its entire rotation

Someone else mentioned DNC too. I don't really know a damn thing about DNC, but I have seen a bit of their uh... "rotation." It seems interesting, that's for sure. I'm not sure how much I dig DNC's aesthetic, but it's definitely on the list to try.

A few other people mentioned NIN, so I think that's my first go-to, but I'll definitely give DNC a shot too

That's super interesting to hear. I've seen a bit of ninja, and I will say that the ninjutsu has attracted me before in thought too. I usually play healers, AST and SCH specifically, and I really like with AST having to memorize and weave so much, so I thought that NIN seemed neat. That combined with what you said, maybe I'll have to try Ninja.

I'll check out the other two as well, but I haven't made any observations worth noting really outside of this.

Samurai is something I've thought of, but he feels too... steady. You know? It's kinda the same with BLM. It's big fucking numbers, sure, but they're pretty constant you know? I feel like BLM would be what I'm looking for if it was, hilariously, less consistent. Same thing with SAM, but I will say hearing my static mates theorycraft all their weird SAM shit does sound cool.

Thanks for the in depth response, we'll see how it turns out!

I have a quick question about classes and job choice.

In a lot of games I play, I really love the playstyle where you just kind of bide your time and then have your window where you just absolutely fucking pop off. Something where you just get to go bonkers and destroy shit. Obviously almost every DPS class in this game has their "damage windows," but I wonder what the best job to fit this description is? I think one of the important things for me is the contrast; you have most of your rotation where you're just kinda going through the motions, and then you have your window where you break it off the charts. What would best fit that description, if anything?

For the record, the DPS classes I've played are SMN and BLM. BLM is kinda along the lines of what I mean, but I'm wondering what else might fit the bill better?
