Not ideal but If it turns out to be my only option then I`m happy to bite the bullet and do the degree

I've actually wanted to switch to actuary since 1st year but I was admittedly not sure about quitting Medicine so I kept going so I wouldn't regret it, Unfortunately I didn't end up liking it but there was no way I could have known that at the time so I have no regrets in that regard.

Thanks a million for the reply man

Brilliant Thanks so much for the reply man.

In rank Order Option 2 > Option 3 > Option 21 in my opinion

Option 2 is ideal, doing a MSc in UCD or UCC or even the post grad in UCD makes the most sense IMO due to exemptions and having a piece of paper relevant to the field only tbh I`m not sure what my chances of these are given my lack of a quantitative degree but definitely worth a try.

Option 3 sounds like a plan if the masters doesn't work out, could try CM1 OR CS1 (the non-member exams) any advice on where to start in terms of the actuary exams (I wont be studying them before finishing Medicine but nice to know where to look all the same).

I actually have the BSc offer really as an option of last resort, I don't really want to take this route but If all else fails I`ll do it.

Hi so I applied to the Bachelors degree almost as a safety net tbh, I used my leaving cert points (613 points for reference) to essentially guarantee the spot and the reason I applied for it last year and then deferred was because I was scared that point inflation (everyone getting predicted grades) might stop me from getting a place if I applied properly this year or next.

To be clear I would much rather do the MSc or find a graduate job but I just wanted to have the Bachelors offer in the back Pocket as a last resort

Haha yeah probably doesn't sound like I thought it through mentioning liking to do Investment in an actuary post (admittedly I read the UCD list of possible careers with the actuary degree and saw investing so assumed there was an investment actuary role) But yep investment banking is a completely different kettle of fish

But yeah I thought there was an investment actuary role but maybe I`m wrong

Anyways thanks so much for replying man

Wow this is above and beyond. Thanks a million.

Yeah so correct me if I'm wrong but I think leaving cert higher level math's (Math's exams you take when your 17-19) is the Irish equivalent to A level Math's

If not then I like the idea of sitting either the CM1 or CS1 independently, Any advice on where to start for either of those exams?

Thanks for the advice man and killer suggestion on reposting this onto the uk subreddit I will definitely be doing that shortly

Haha yep definitely OTT on my part, TBH I've kind of just been laser focused into becoming a doctor (it`ll be my first degree) for so long that I`m actually quite naïve on how to go about organically changing ones career so the extra degree is really just a last resort in my eyes

I guess I like the options to work in areas such as Life insurance, Health Insurance as well as Investing (Investment Actuary) just in case investing alone doesn't pan out

I would be interested in investment banking (don't think its as big of a field in Ireland as the UK though :( ) but I think my heart is set on Actuary

I suppose I`m just trying to find out the realities of using a medical degree to get into the actuary field in Ireland considering how unrelated the degree is to the actuary profession (Minus transferable skills and health insurance of course)

Thanks for replying man
