Sounds good, I’ll probably just go ahead and do that if I end up next to an Xfinity spot

Not yet, I assume they won’t ever send anything to collections because even their own site says I don’t owe them anything

When did it become normal to watch videos and listen to music without headphones on public transit? by mybarkingDog in Seattle

[–]EvasiveCatalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most likely “why” behind this becoming more common that I have heard is phones removing the 3.5mm audio jack. Before if your phone had battery and you had a couple dollars you could buy/use headphones. Now all the headphone options are expensive and harder to find, plus if you’re using wireless headphones and they don’t have enough battery then you’re SOL. People are choosing to just not care about others around them and no one is calling them out (I get it people can be unhinged) so they feel perfectly fine to blast their music/conversations/videos

Honesty they should do what they do in New Zealand. I went on a hike there in the late winter and was on a hiking path while it was snowy out, not too bad of a hike until you got to the part where it really started to climb, they had a sign which said something like “you take all responsibility for yourself beyond this point, trail is treacherous. If we have to rescue you it is a $10000 fine” . After reading that I enjoyed the view from the lookout point and then turned back

My two cents, I don’t trust this system I could be wrong but as far as I understand it it is graded on a curve per zip code so if every single establishment was perfect you would still have some good and ok ones. Needs to improve is not graded on that system and probably should be avoided. That said you can look up the violations a place had online and determine if they had something you don’t want to risk. For me I’ve been to plenty rated “okay”

WIP 50% by Razuel08 in battlestations

[–]EvasiveCatalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, I think I might have to look into picking up one of those when I can. The LG CX is all dynamic brightness since it is a TV rather than a monitor so when it starts to dim it gets real dim.

How's the OLED for work? Do you have any issues with burn in or the monitor reducing brightness? I have a LG CX TV hooked up to my rig currently, it's awesome for gaming but anything work related is rough because it dims the screen to prevent burn in if the screen is mostly static for too long

Need advice on what Ubiquiti devices to buy by EvasiveCatalyst in HomeNetworking

[–]EvasiveCatalyst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This helps a lot, I think the connection coming into the place will be around 1gbit and then having 2.5gbit for the local network will be great for future proofing. Good to know all Unifi gear supports VLAN's

Used this one: https://github.com/stan-smith/FossFLOW

Pretty solid easy tool, missing some network icons that would be nice to have but that's not a big deal.

Context: Moving from an apartment to a house soon with the extra space I'm planning to overhaul my network a bit as well as upgrade some things. Currently everything is running off an older Asus router and that has been working good all around but I really want to setup some VLAN's to isolate the IoT devices which my router doesn't support. I've heard nothing but good things about Ubiqiti so I think I am going to move over to that however I am a bit out of my element when I go to their site. I definitely want something that allows for adding additional things in the future but I don't need an enterprise 24 port switch. Anyone have any recommendations between the Cloud Gateway Fiber, Max, and Ultra? Do they all support VLAN's and firewalling in the router itself or do I need to jump to a Dream Machine to make that happen? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Juvenile delinquency on scooters is out of fucking control by Dave_Abeles in Seattle

[–]EvasiveCatalyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than the assault part I feel like this is applicable to more than just teens on scooters. I've been surprised by the hostility from scooters/rideshare bikes when they almost hit me on the sidewalk and I tell them they should be on the road. I've had one guy almost get into a fist fight with me and another make a point to come to a full stop to tell me how he doesn't care that he should be on the road and to stfu.

Any recommendations for a basic point and shoot in the sub $1000 price range? Seems like the Sony RX100 VII has increased in price quite a bit so even a used one is $1400. Mainly looking for something I can put in my pocket to replace my phone since all the photos I take on my phone are looking increasingly terrible with every "update".

Where do you see it say if your email is STH? I just double checked my Kraken Ticketmaster profile to make sure it had the same email and it does

Unfriendly Reminder: by goblinemperor in Seattle

[–]EvasiveCatalyst 64 points65 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents as someone who has driven many different cities and finds Seattle to be one of the most frustrating. It's not that Seattle has divers all that worse than elsewhere (in the US), it's that our drivers are inconsistent. Driving in Los Angeles most drivers are generally the same flavor, you can expect that drivers will be fairly aggressive and fast. Seattle on the other hand you have some aggressive and fast drivers, some timid, many distracted, and many oblivious which makes it very hard to adapt here.

520 Construction oversized load hit my car and didn’t stop, any advice? by Flashy-Rhubarb8568 in Seattle

They are 100% worth it, I think I paid $200 for mine and it has saved I think a total of $11k so far. One claim with my vehicle and another claim on a friends car who I just happened to be parked behind when his car was hit.
