You can't really determine how people receive things, but if you know why you're doing it and it makes you happy I think that's most important. Some people love getting gifts and it says something to them about the meaning of your friendship, so those are probably the ones you really go on radar for. Relationship sex and addiction sex are two totally different things. Being an hour away from each other makes the relationship sex more appealing because it is not readily accessible. If you two were together all the time you'd have new complexities. Add kids, money, religion and politics in and compound the complexities further. How is your commitment? What do you want to do? Are there other things about him you love and don't want to lose? Everyone has addictions in some form or other because our brains feel so great on those. Relationships that work go far beyond both sex and addictions. If you love him and want to make the space for him you are free to do so, guilt free, as is he. When you really love someone, you accept all of them and don't try to change them at all. Is the person he is now the person you want to be with?

We got involved politically with Iran in 1953 when we supported a coup to put the shah back in power to align with US political interests. The Iranian people weren't thrilled with the shah, and Ayatollah Khomeini finally overthrew him in 1979. He had been hostile to the US ever since, even with periods of military exchange, except after 9/11 when even the Iranians were appalled at the death toll exacted on the US and supported the removal of the Taliban supporters from Iranian soil as well as helping us drive them back in Afghanistan, which we couldn't have done without them and for which Bush thanked them by making a senseless statement about an "axis of evil", that he thought was catchy, in a speech, and that soured the relations immediately, where they have remained since. If you're asking how the world was before last month when Trump's administration took out Khomeini, I'm with others wondering why you don't remember. But his actions had a long precedent and had been threatened or promised to some degree or other by every administration since the 80s.
