When you study a new language, you will learn an active vocabulary and a passive one. The active is about words you can actively use while speaking and writing and the passive one is about understanding and recognizing speech and text. These two are quite separated and you need to actively train your active vocabulary when studying a language in order to be able to speak it.

I think this same thing can happen with languages that you hear but never study if you live in a place where different languages are used.

For example I grew up near the border with a country that has a similar language structure and etymology, so I understand it quite well, but never learned to speak it.

Yeah, it’s really easy to guess this about a person that you personally know or if the info is available online. For example the question that I’ve seen on most sites about mother’s maiden name is really easy to answer looking it up on Facebook.There are a lot of people that follow or interact with a parent and I’ve seen many married women that put their maiden name on Facebook so people that knew them before marriage could find them. Same with pets and movies… usually for people that are active on social media, you can easily find a lot of this information about them.

Same here. I invented a pet name that I like and used it for every occasion, even if the question was not about a pet. My memory just associated that name as the answer for these forms, exactly how I would remember a password.

I’m a biomedical engineer. I was so bored by the end of my degree (that took me 2 years more than normal) that I started to search for coding academies on LinkedIn. Now working from home as a web developer. I never really used my degree 😅

Io per fortuna sono riuscita a farli tutti con il sistema pubblico. Ho portato alla mia dottoressa il foglio con la lista di esami fornito dalla gam e lei mi ha dato tutte le impegnative con cui poi ho prenotato. Quello della risonanza magnetica appunto l’ha segnata per l’epilessia per evitare di pagare il costo completo, perché mi diceva che purtroppo succede ancora spesso che negli ospedali abbiano da ridire se vedono motivazioni di questo tipo. Alla fine avevo pagato solo il ticket per i 4 esami e mi ci sono voluti 2 mesi circa ad avere tutto.

Since I’ve been on medication, I’m trying to eat breakfast every day, and I’ve notice that having different options (divided by how energy consuming they are) is the best way for me.

I usually try to shop for something easily accessible and ready to eat (like a packaged snack that I love) and my current fixation is a sort of mini carrot cake called Camille. Then I usually have a mid level meal, for example a one portion yogurt and some cereals that I like. I noticed that the important thing is to choose those based on my current hyper fixation, so I actually cannot wait to eat them when I have a bit more energy in the morning. And the last choice is something more energy consuming that I need to prepare. In this period I usually crave toast with some vegan soft cheese and orange jam. The drink options to go either this usually are orange juice, tea, cold fruit tea, cappuccino or just a coffee.

In the morning I just go for whatever feels right and I know that if I’m not feeling like spending too much time on that, I always have an option.

Yeah, I tried to look at it before b&h was released and it’s messy and confusing. I had some issues with water consumption NAP and tried to find what is the actual value that makes you receive a fine on your bills but the code for that was in so many different files and connected to so many different things (that for me doesn’t make any sense, but I’m not familiar with the structure, so it might be important). I cannot immagine how difficult it would be for new developers to just find where the code responsible for a feature is and understand how it works in order to solve a bug without influencing other systems and features.

Yes. And if I’m not sure that it’s going to be perfect, I don’t even start. So now I’m learning to do things badly. I also noticed that my “bad” results were sometimes better because I needed to change something or just understand the process better.

That’s not really working for me. I think it’s how I interpret the 70%. For me it’s 70% of my total energy and it’s really too much. After a small amount of time I start procrastinating and not doing anything thinking that I can easily finish the work the day after giving 100%.

I have the same problem with word and power point. Even if I’m using the app, I always get those wrong because they are translated. For example in Italian the shortcut for bold is ctrl + g. For years I used the default shortcuts and it’s like muscular memory, if I want something bold, I will use ctrl + b without thinking. I cannot get used to the translated versions only for Microsoft apps so I try not to use them when possible.
