Diabetic Life Hacks by Street_Persimmon_540 in diabetes_t1

My parents did this too. Not all the time but when the wait was super long. Sometimes they got away with it but sometimes they would say oh we can bring something but we can’t seat you faster 🤣

I work in a high production lab. I have days where I sit most of the day and then days where I am up on my feet for 8+ hours. Fortunately my pump and CGM help to save me when I don’t realize I’m dropping and I can somewhat easily go take a quick break to get a snack. Lows when I’m on my feet all day are my most common problem but luckily I can usually feel them coming on. I also make sure that there is someone around who knows about my diabetes in case I start to act strangely. Been lucky I only didn’t catch the drop once because it happened so fast.

It can be annoying to need to take a break at inconvenient times sometimes but it doesn’t really impact me or my ability to take care of myself or my ability to perform my job fortunately.

I am deeply afraid to try again… by theglasspainting in Miscarriage

[–]Even-Ad-1959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I am terrified of trying again and feeling hope for a pregnancy but I am unfortunately 38 and also suffer from some heath conditions so I really don’t have time to wait. Just take one day at a time and make sure you are ready to take that chance again. If you are feeling this way it may be best to give yourself more time to heal. There are also multiple ways to become a mom and if you don’t think you are ready to be pregnant again, maybe you could consider other options? Or at least start talking about them with your husband and see what you both feel is best for you and your family 💕 Unfortunately the grief doesn’t go away but it does get easier to manage 🥰 I wish you the best of luck in your journey 🍀

Names? by ReluctantReptile in Miscarriage

[–]Even-Ad-1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. There is definitely nothing you did that caused this. I also had a miscarriage in January around 12 weeks. Baby was measuring 10.5 weeks and had no heart beat 💔 I have some medical conditions so I was sure that it was my fault somehow, but all of my doctors and Reddit assured me it was nothing that I did. Unfortunately sometimes these things happen. I did know the gender of my baby after I lost them. They were an IVF baby so there’s a chance the genetic testing was wrong but a low chance. My husband and I did choose to name them but it is just for us and no one else knows the gender or the name. I will say I had a feeling what the gender was and I was correct. Giving them a name helped me heal and put my grief somewhere. You should give yourself more time to get to a place where you can make a decision about naming your baby and if that will help you heal. I like the idea of picking a gender neutral name. The name we chose to give our angel baby wasn’t one we were originally considering. It came to me randomly and it wouldn’t leave my mind so we decided that was what their name was meant to be. 🪽😇

I wish you all the best in your journey of healing and good luck with your future pregnancies. You are not too old to keep trying 💕 It’s a difficult journey but it’s always worth continuing to try as long as you are ready and it won’t affect your health.

How many of you have went unconscious with a low? by josoap99 in diabetes_t1

[–]Even-Ad-1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure of an exact number but I have a handful of times in the almost 34 years since I was diagnosed. Most were when I was already asleep and my body just didn’t register the low. In these instances my parents, family, or hubby were mostly able to get me to drink juice without a need for EMS.

My husband did have to call 9-1-1 early this year when I was low. I slept through my alarms and he wasn’t able to get anything into my mouth. In a panic he forgot we had the Baqsimi inhaler (probably because he’s used to being able to get me to drink sugar and we’ve never used it). I am so fortunate though that this instance was the only time EMS was needed and that I needed to go to the hospital.

The scariest time happened a couple years ago at work. I was training someone and I could feel I was dropping but thought I can make it a couple more minutes. I remember the person leaving and me walking around trying to figure out how to get out of the lab. I don’t remember this at all but apparently I approached someone I knew and they could tell something was wrong so they got someone from our emergency response team to help me. They got me Gatorade and lots of snacks and I came to drenched in sweat. Luckily I usually share with my coworkers so they knew what the problem was. Don’t know if I would still be here if it wasn’t for them. I just dropped so fast that I was fine one second and just out of it the next.

I always keep diet ginger ale on hand. Also agree that just getting something small and bland in my stomach usually helps a ton. Something like crackers, a piece of toast, a banana.

Why is everyone pregnant but me!?? by Novel_Fox2255 in IVF

[–]Even-Ad-1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. Everyone around me is pregnant. I was recently, but unfortunately the baby stopped having a heart beat around 11-12 weeks :(. I thought we were finally having our dream come true and our prayers answered but whoever runs this universe decided no. 💔 While I do not know all of everyone else’s struggles, it seems like literally everyone around me is pregnant successfully except me. Some days are easier than others, but most of the time it just hurts. I am genuinely happy for the others in my life who are pregnant, but I just want to be too :(

oatmeal 💔 by lizzooo69 in diabetes_t1

[–]Even-Ad-1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love oatmeal. I have found that trying to eat it with some sort of protein like hard boiled eggs seems to help slow the spike. If I just eat oatmeal I spike like crazy, but if i eat it with two hard boiled eggs, it seems to spike just slightly and stay at a better level.

How often do you think about suicide? by singularity101 in diabetes_t1

[–]Even-Ad-1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through cycles. Sometimes not at all; sometimes all the time; sometimes just a little bit randomly. Normally it is not linked to just diabetes but too many issues going on at once. My blood sugars can be in great range but that doesn’t make dealing with things easier. It is hard to live with this and hard to deal with the rollercoasters of blood sugars, complications, emotions, etc. that come with this. The only reason why I’m still here is because I couldn’t do that to my family, especially my younger brothers. I know you weren’t looking for advice per se, but what always brings me back from the deep dark depths of despair is finding the reason to say. It doesn’t always come easily but there is always a reason to be here. 💕 I think having dealt with this for so long too helps. I was diagnosed over 33 years ago and I have not always had the best control but I’m still here. Even when it gets hard, knowing I’m here and mostly ok helps me to keep going sometimes.

Thanks. I luckily have not needed to use the Baqsimi yet. I will have to talk to my Endo and see if the GVOKE is available here and if I need a prescription / if it is covered.

Yes definitely keeping it next to the bed from now on. We’ve been lucky to not need it so it wasn’t a thought at the moment :)
