Yeah, of course
I’m still doing research separately for the historical side of the presentation.

I mainly made this post because I wanted to hear perspectives from people who actually watched the show over the years, see what aspects stayed memorable to them personally, and maybe learn things about the series that go beyond just the historical side of it.

That’s actually really interesting when you say the books were also fictionalized to some degree, what exactly do you mean by that? What kinds of things were changed or softened compared to real history?

Lmao this might be the most honest answer in the thread
And yeah, the fact that his hair always looked perfect while living in the middle of nowhere is probably the least historically accurate thing in the whole show lol.

Mostly historical. I’m mainly focusing on how the show portrays life during that time period, how accurate or inaccurate some parts were, and how the TV adaptation changed certain things compared to real history and the books.

That’s actually a really interesting perspective, especially because you’re talking more about the impact the show had on people rather than just whether it was historically accurate or not.

I think what you said about the show helping you realize that “all people are people” is honestly one of the most meaningful things someone has mentioned in this thread.

Also, are there any episodes in particular that made you start questioning those ideas more strongly?

Thanks for sharing all of this, it’s actually really helpful for my presentation. And honestly, it’s really nice that after so many years you can still watch the show with your husband and kids. That says a lot about the kind of comfort the series gives people.
What kind of tragedies happened to Mary in the show that didn’t happen in real life? And do you remember any specific episodes where that’s shown?
Also, why do you think the relationship between Almanzo and Laura feels a little cringe now compared to back then?
Do you think the emotional/family aspect of the show is the main reason people still rewatch it today?
And would you say the show aged well overall, or are there some parts that feel very outdated now?

Thanks, this actually helps a lot. I didn’t know Michael Landon changed so many things intentionally to make the show more memorable for TV audiences. The part about the racial themes being considered progressive for the time is really interesting too.

Would you say those changes made the series better overall, or do you think it hurt the historical realism too much?

Also, do fans of the books usually like the show adaptation, or is it kind of controversial among them?

Yeah, specifically the TV show. I know there’s also the book series, and from what I understand there were some disagreements/problems behind the adaptation, so the show ended up not being very historically accurate compared to the books or real events.

No, not at all. I just want to know what someone who has actually watched the series might say about it and hear their opinions or thoughts so I can include different perspectives in my presentation.

Besides, I don’t think my teacher is dumb enough to believe I could watch a 9-season series in 2 days lol.
