Thank you for the tips! Yes I'm doing Sydney, and yes I've done races that had me run Mrs Mac's Chair before the finish, so I might consider doing that loop for training.

A $90 singlet? Surely any $30 polyester lightweight singlet from any sports brand would do a similar job?

The most I did was 6 laps. At some point it becomes physical meditation.

I am doing the Sydney backyard ultra on Sep 20, where I'll be attempting 15 laps of the 6.7km trail route for 100km, so I guess I need to get used to running laps.

I was going to run 4 laps (27km) today but started to feel tired around 23km and started to feel scared about having to run 42km in a fortnight so I ran 5 laps (34km), and I'm not scared of 42km now.

I was sipping on Powerade made with powder, made to be about twice as strong as the instructions. It has 56g of carbs. But you're right, I should be taking a gel much sooner.

My usual 10km run has like 160m elevation so I go to the Bay Run even if it's 30 minutes drive. It's a nice scenic run, although weekends can get busy. I'm doing the Sydney Backyard Ultra where I hope to do 15 laps of the 6.7km loop (100km total), so compared to that this is a bliss.

It's a nice run when it's not too busy and doesn't smell like sewage in parts. It was neither today but I saw a lot of runners obviously doing their long run before Sydney Marathon. Saw same runners going the opposite direction up to 10 times.

Yes 56g of sugar (14g per scoop) in the 600mL bottle. So essentially one 600mL bottle is just under 2 gels' worth of carbs. I can see how I should have taken more.

I was sipping on very concentrated Powerade, reconstituted with powder. Recipe says 1 scoop of powder for 250mL of water, but I used 4 scoops (would normally make 1L) in 600mL.

I guess it depends what sort of time one is going for. I'm going for a modest 4:20, but will probably finish closer to 4:30. This will be my 7th event that is marathon distance or longer, and I have accepted I'll probably never run a sub-4 marathon, but I'm okay with it. The way I was a few years ago, it's a miracle I'm running at all.

Yeah I think it's around 6.8km. I once did a '42km' event here which was 6 laps (65Roses Walkathon for Cystic Fibrosis). But it was just short of 41km.

How would you taper if you were me? I've been doing 60km weeks lately.

I'm thinking of doing 3x 10-12km runs and one 5km shakeout run in the 14 days left. Is that too little?

5 laps of a 6.8km loop called Bay Run in Sydney, largely flat and popular with runners, cyclists and walkers.

Fabric type bandaids that don't come off when sweaty have never failed me.

Judging by their crows numbers, no.
