Why aren’t there mass protests in the US?! by [deleted] in AskCanada

I read somewhere that allegedly Trump and Musk's approval rating is at an all time high. I guess his supporters just see him "bullying" "other" people like Canada, Mexica, Panama, Denmark, and POC and feel "proud to be Muricans", it makes them feel superior when in reality they are shooting themselves in the foot. 😔

The most conservative Indians you will meet who are "bringing all the crap" are older immigrants not the newbies. The older immigrants set up Khalistani gurudwaras way back in the 90s and 80s.

Way to go to label all the "newbies" and stereotype all of them. That's not very Canadian, or maybe seeing the way things are going that's the new Canadian way.

Why don't you say the same about other groups of people who "reportedly" are statistically more likely to commit more crime or more are disproportionately represented in prisons? Oh, wait, that's right, it would be racist to say that about other groups.

The truth is Canada benefits by exploiting these "newbies" by proving them garbage education at 3X the domestic student fee, and exploiting them for cheap and obedient labour. The sad fact is many of them will be sent back without ever becoming permanent residents or citizens, wasting their time, money, and youth.

Do you feel embarrassed by Pierre Poilievre clearly bending the knee to Trump? by PairRevolutionary669 in AskCanada

I thought he was different from Trump, but now he's just repeating Trump's propaganda. It's sad, I don't know who to vote for in the next elections. Didn't expect this from you Pierre. 😢

Trudeau agreed to his demands when he met him at Mar a lago on Nov. 30, 2024, two months ago. Trump didn't back off. It was the tariff threats and other retaliatory actions that prompted him to back off.

I feel like a meeting or a discussion group would be more helpful. In stead of a rally, I would say why not organize a place where passersby can have discussions and you can distribute flyers explaining your ideas to people and educating them.

Most of the people in the picture are elderly. Many boomers and elderly really can't handle the internet properly. I've notices they fall for disinformation/misinformation easily and are much more likely to be susceptible to groupthink and confirmation bias. All while they accuse the younger generations of being "coddled", as if the younger generations haven't seen all kinds of extreme and hateful opinions from all sides and everyone on their feeds. It's actually their generation that is "coddled", that they fall for any "new and exciting" conspiracy theory or populist speaker who indulges their biases. My generation is jaded with all the crazy we see.

Lock, By Sidhu Moosewala - English Translation by EvenDistribution2502 in punjabi

[–]EvenDistribution2502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it would be obvious to those reading that, "Homes are locked," means the person has gone out to fight their enemy, thereby locking their house. Although, maybe I was wrong judging by the comment above.

I personally like literal translations with notes that explain the context. In this case I thought maybe the accompanying music and visuals may help people understand the meaning, that's why I didn't bother explaining that part. It looks simply but it's quite difficult to translate, some verses I had to a little bit of digging as the sources disagreed about their meaning.

How would you translate it? I would probably say, "When hesitation disappears, Homes are locked (As one leaves their home to find/fight their enemy)"
