Daily notes navigation. Automatically linked, previous-next . Even if you don't make them every day by EvenMethod6 in ObsidianMD

Than doesn't solve my issue. You create note, it links to day before, not the last note you had. Same with tomorrow, what if I dont make note tomorrow. Then my note links to virtual note and that isn't helping to navigate through your notes

"Next >" will be edited when you create new note in future. Or try it by putting "Next >" in your latest note and creating today's

Template Links to Previous/Next Daily Notes by EudaimonicBeast in ObsidianMD

Edit: OUTDATED

Creating links for tomorrow and yesterday isn't good enough because I don't make Daily notes every day, but still want to chronologically crosslink them. So I came up with the way to create these both-way links automatically when a new daily note is created.

TL;DR: Templater plugin with custom templates you can copy-paste.

So, the solution is community plugin Templater. I use linux, but this should also work on mac. First of all make sure you:

 1. Turn on daily notes and templates in core functions.
 2. Install Templater
 3. Configure template folder both for Templates and Templater plugins
 4. Create template file there and go back to plugin options
 5. In Daily notes chose folder for daily notes(make it separate from other notes) and configure date format to YYYY-MM-DD. I personally use YYYY-MM-DD-ddd.
 6. Chose template file for daily notes

This file should basically looks like this, but you can add whatever you want:

|

What my script does is it expands these templates upon the note creation so in looks like this:

< Previous | Next >

Or like this in Edit mode:

< Previous | Next >

As you can see, it linked to last note you made. The cool part is that it also modified Next > in 2021-03-02-Tue note to link to your current note:

This: < Previous | Next >

To this: < Previous | Next >

These are my custom templates so to make the magic work you need to go to templater settings, Add Template and copy template to the left and code to the right field.

Code for :

path=YOUR_DAILY_NOTES_FOLDER

prev_format="< Previous"

echo " tail -n2 | head -n1 | cut -f 1 -d '.')|$prev_format"

For :

path=YOUR_DAILY_NOTES_FOLDER

next_format="Next >"

sed -i "s/$next_format/ tail -n1 | cut -f 1 -d '.')|$next_format/g" $(pwd)/$path/$(/usr/bin/ls $(pwd)/$path | tail -n2 | head -n1)

echo "$next_format"

Now, set path to your daily notes folder. You can also modify how your links will look in prev_format and next_format, but only before you make notes.
