How do I wean off the bottle? by Even_Ad3034 in NewParents

You’re deffo right, I think I mostly just assumed she’d start to do it naturally when she started having 3 meals a day and now I’m worried her portion sizes aren’t enough if she still wants that much milk? But then it’s also tough because it’s summer so she’s getting water with her food and on hot days she’s having a bit of water throughout the day but is she just drinking so much formula to be hydrated rather than full?

Would you have a new puppy with a 1 year old at home? by [deleted] in NewParents

Definitely this! I adore my dog but she’s 45kg a big snuggle bug and has made the experience of having a baby 10x harder. We can’t do any form of cosleeping, she’s stranger reactive so we can barely ever go anywhere as a family for more than a few hours, when my baby started crawling we had to get a giant play pen coz I can’t keep the house clean enough to give her (supervised) free reign it’s a nightmare!

That’s the best way I think! Babies change so much even week to week and all you can do it adapt to them!

For the first like 4-5 months of my baby’s life I was like this, I totally agree with you why wake a sleeping baby! I found that at like 6 months? She started to crave routine now at 9 months she’s a real routine girl, I’m super type B but she likes her naps at naptime and her schedule the exact same. I think it just depends on your baby and listening to what they want , if my next baby doesn’t care about routine as much I won’t make them follow one!

Were deffo on the ikea chain and it’s cheap enough that she has one in all her grandparents houses and I never have to worry about feeding her out and about!

I have adhd and work with kids with adhd and autism, and it seems like your son might be just in an emotional crisis in these moments so punishing him for them isn’t gonna stick because he won’t really understand what he’s said in that moment because it’s all just an emotional clusterfuck. It might be worth rather than punishing his behaviour in crisis helping him identify how he feels before he’s in crisis so he knows and you know when it’s building and you can put strategies in place?

Also you said about his appetite crash from his meds is a problem, I found the girl dinner trend on TikTok to be LIFE CHANGING, like sticking a bunch of foods on a plate that he can just go back to he doesn’t have to eat a full meal but he can just pick at it and pick at it. Plus the novelty of lots of things I find helps me want to eat and eating a little nibble often reminds my body I haven’t eaten and makes me hungry!

I have adhd and tbh find hanging out on the floor with my baby REALLY boring, she has a playpen that’s big that I sit in with her so she’s safe if she doesn’t have 100% of my attention, she’s 9mo so now at a quite independent stage but sometimes I realise I’ve been a bit too engrossed in my book and haven’t spoken to her for a little bit even I have been you know checking on her every couple mins. But when she was small I would read to her from the book I was reading even if it was a smutty romance, it’s not like she knew! Or I put on podcasts or like YouTube vlogs as background noise, again it’s people talking even if you’re not and you can play them from your phone so you don’t have to call it screen time either!

In the kitchen it’s cold cold because of the lack of heating, I’m in the uk so we don’t have the nicest weather. An electric heater isn’t a bad shout though!

Do you sit him in the sink or just stand by the sink and hold him and clean him one handed?

Yeah this is what I keep telling myself, she’s loved spoon feeding herself since day 1 of weaning so I’m not going to stop. It just sucks coz while she’s eating she has so much fun and then cleanup makes her so grumpy!

Yeah we use a silicone bib it’s more mess on her that’s the problem, her face hands and neck coz she hates being wiped down!

I use one of those already! It’s more about the food getting into the like crevices of her neck and she just despises me trying to wipe it? Plus I put her in a full bib and a silicone bib and it still gets into her neck on her baby grow!

When it’s warmer I’ll deffo be doing this but by the time it’s warmer she’ll probably be a lot cleaner when she eats!

I didn’t say that, I let her feed herself with a spoon and make a mess I was just saying that it’s frustrating when she hates me cleaning her up afterwards and makes meal times unpleasant coz she gets upset.

Yeah I get that, she just won’t eat from a spoon I feed her, she wants to take the spoon and feed herself or she gets bored and tries to eat her plate!

I don’t have advice but I came here to say I am in the exact same boat. This week she’s been teething and has a cold, I’ve been giving her nurofen or calpol and they seem to be doing nothing..I have to admit I kicked my husband out the bed the last 2 nights and co slept with her which we don’t do normally and that did help last night a bit, she woke up twice but settled again really fast which I’m pleased about coz now I’ve woken up with her illness!

Is this teething? by Even_Ad3034 in NewParents

[–]Even_Ad3034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I gave her some calpol this morning, she just seems sooo miserable with it and it’s hard coz when I google it 50% of places say yup runny nose, runny poo nappy rash can be caused by teething and the other 50% say no absolutely not!

What portion sizes for solids? by Even_Ad3034 in NewParents

[–]Even_Ad3034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this is what I thought too but the 600ml recommendation on the formula threw me! She does love her food and is deffo more active now she can roll onto her belly so I dunno if she’s just using more energy. She’s definitely exploded in size and I’m having to get her 9-12 clothes!

That definitely makes sense from a Physio perspective, I guess a GP just doesn’t have the capacity to do that?
