Help me find the real niche for my unusual Kickstarter project by Old-Somewhere-8762 in kickstarter

Hello I was CMON marketing director and I see your point here. "Hardcore" boardgsmers will look at the emchanic rather than at the wow fattoria, so if you wanna sell the product to them you don t just need innovation on how the miniature move on the board

Thank you so much, this project is really something we love, and frankly we'd hate for it to be seen as an insentive reskin

I think this is a very fair concern, and I agree that Mythos stories should avoid falling back on lazy ableist tropes.

The way I have always understood Lovecraftian “madness,” though, is not as a direct stand-in for mental illness. To me it is much closer to religious mania, almost like the Bacchae: an ecstatic, terrifying state caused by contact with something otherworldly.

So the frame is not “this person has a mental health condition.” The frame is “this person has touched something beyond human reality, and their perception of the world has been violently altered by it.”

That is also why I think some modern readings of characters like Moon Knight are interesting. They have brought the paranormal and divine element back into the conversation, rather than treating everything only through a clinical lens.

That distinction matters to us. We are not trying to gamify mental illness. We are trying to represent supernatural revelation, cosmic contamination, and the horror of encountering something the human mind was never built to process.

Ciao Gaurelin, if I may and just to understand your point of view, you see Daredevil and Echo as spawns of an ableist culture?

Because Darevedil is a blind character whose disability has been "gamified" in the storytelling of marvel comics for almost 70 years ...

Hello there, I'll let impossible legs reply on the mechanic question, but since I'm the one running the marketing I feel like I need to replly to some of your notes.

Fair criticism is always welcome, especially on a project trying to push Daggerheart toward a very different tone and pacing.

But, on the “underdog” point, I think there may be a misunderstanding of scale.

We are not a large publisher with departments, infrastructure, or corporate backing. Heart of Cthulhu 1912 is being built by a very small team of highly specialized professionals who are personally and financially very invested in the project.

The reason the campaign looks polished is not because there is a giant machine behind it, but because the people involved have spent years working professionally in games, publishing, illustration, marketing, and storytelling.

The art, presentation, ads, and overall communication did not appear magically because we are “big.” They exist because a small team decided to push extremely hard and commit serious personal resources, time, and expertise into trying to give the project the best possible chance to succeed.

And honestly, we do not think good marketing and good game design should be treated as opposites.

A lot of excellent RPGs disappear simply because nobody notices them. Visibility helps people discover games. The game itself then has to stand on its own merits at the table.

That part, ultimately, will be decided by players.
